"Horse!"
Though Miyuki knew it meant she might not be on it for long. She didn't get to ride the horse nearly enough to keep her callouses but she wanted to try. Besides, there were days the wagon was boring and she might fall asleep which wasn't fun after she woke up.

Earendil nodded. "Come on over and I'll help you up," he told her, kneeling and making a stirrup with his hands so that he could give Miyuki a lift up. The horses were tall after all, and there was a good chance that Miyuki would never be able to climb up on one on her own.

She toddled over to her ada and got up with his help. Even though she was as tall as her mother, it wasn't really saying much at all. Her mommy was short, but Miyuki still hoped to grow a bit more and maybe even grow to be as tall as her ada. Even if there wasn't a huge chance of that.
"All set!"

Earendil helped Miyuki up onto the horse, and then he headed over to join Lin and Andarien on the wagon. Halmir and Arthael were driving that wagon, and Kaito had decided to drive the other, and as soon as Earendil was sitting down, they were off.
By the time they were a few hours into the desert, Andarien had fallen asleep curled up in Lin's lap. It didn't take long for boredom to settle over the group. Traveling in the desert was very different from traveling through the forest: at least in the forest there was shade and something to look at other than the endless sea of sand.
Earendil found himself staring curiously at Lancaeriel, who was riding in the same wagon as him and his family. Even after their weeks in the Eastland, she was still a mystery, and couldn't help but wonder who she was and what her past was.

Lin was leaning against Earendil, and at least it wasn't humid. That would have made having feathers very unpleasant but with her white wings it was just uncomfortably warm in some areas.
She knew that Lancaeriel was a curious person, not just because she was mysterious but because in her own way she had probably as much knowledge as Aragost, Elros or Sir Valdimar since she remembered her previous rebirths.
"Coin for your thoughts?" she asked him.
Normally it was penny (a type of currency locally her home didn't even use, but it was a common enough saying). She knew she was bored, if she was revamping sayings to suit the location.

Earendil blinked and looked at Lin. He had to think about what she'd said for a moment before he remembered what it meant. She'd used the phrase before, but only rarely, and the first time it had been slightly different. Then he smiled at her.
"Sorry," he murmured softly. "Curiosity getting the better of me. I know we have the uncanny tendency to meet the most fascinating of people ... and knowing that Lancaeriel was the one who changed Iorlas and Ioreth ... I'm curious."
What was her past? Where had she learned such magic? He couldn't imagine that something like that would be a magic that one could be born with.

Lin giggled, "Well that would a given now wouldn't it? Not to mention while she's not physically as long as say Elros or Sir Valdemar she remembers her previous lives so that makes her very old spiritually and mentally."
She didn't know much about how reincarnation worked even though she had seen it in Beren and grew up with the idea back in Gaia so it wasn't unheard of for her.

"And even physically she's so different from anyone we've ever seen," Earendil pointed out. "Especially considering the fact that she claims to be from the Four Lands. I don't know that I would call her a Light Elf, though."
Her skin, eyes, everything was too light. And yet she didn't look like the white-skinned elves of Caras Galadhon either.

Lin looked thoughtful of that, "You could always ask where she originated from."
Since there were so many lands it really wouldn't have surprised Lin at all to find out that she might not have been born originally in the Four Lands, of course it could have also been magic that could have done that. Even to Gaians, transformation magic was a very difficult branch to work with and not something most did normally.
"We have a long trip for plenty of talk. We can trade stories!"
Since she heard from Miyuki that Lancaeriel had been equally interested in them.

Earendil laughed at that. "I suppose we could. It's a bit awkward though without Miyuki or Andarien awake to excuse - or at least give excuse to - personal questions."
Because really, these things were none of his business. He was just so used to finding out about people.

Lin chuckled, "Ah... the joys of being a child again."
Since really that's how she got away with most of it, not that the nekos (especially Kaito) seemed to understand that when she chose to restrain her own curiosity.

"Indeed," Earendil grinned. "Perhaps we should wake Andarien."
Though it was probably better not to, as the boy tended to try to avoid Lancaeriel because of the way she appeared when he looked at her. Besides that, he wasn't nearly as curious as Miyuki. Or him or Lin, for that matter.
"Or not," he chuckled.

"No...." Lin sighed as she softly stroked Andarien's hair, "Poor boy, I still don't know what he's seeing. I wonder if maybe grandfather knows, he has more than one kind of Sight."
Her poor grandfather, some wondered if perhaps he saw the other side after his near drowning and that was why he could see the way he did.
"If nothing else maybe he can suggest a few ways to help, goddess knows, seeing what grandfather did, day in and day out must have been distracting."

Andarien stirred slightly in his sleep as Lin stroked his hair. He shifted slightly and snuggled closer to Lin before falling back into a deeper sleep.
Earendil looked down at the boy tenderly. "At least that's something we can help him with," he murmured sadly. "Learning about magic and Sight and such things ... that's possible. I only wish we could help him as easily with his training and his languages."

Lin hummed a bit and nodded at that, Andarien tried but didn't seem at all talented in that field. At least when Miyuki tried she was able to get somewhere and languages suited her.
"If it weren't for the fact both are important to what we do..."
In a way, it was almost the most important things they could teach Andarien because they traveled so much.
"We might have to go to outside help for Andarien's training as well," Lin admitted, "There are after all many styles neither of us knows and it could be more so for Andarien than with Miyuki that he needs a different style."
Miyuki just didn't feel comfortable with blades, and so it was possible to teach her with a lot of training, though she would never be an expert at it.
