[Daniel :: Atlantis :: Cavern Opening -> Atlantis Proper]
If anyone can do it, I know ShinRa could find a way to reverse engineer the Heart. The need for a royal soul to fill it though, that’s just not going to work for us.
But it still works just fine as it is now! Why not use it with the kings it already has?
Because it's NOT working just fine. These people are slowly dying, the Heart's power is waning. If Ajora really wants anything out of this artifact than he is lying. He needs the king to die and could even throw Kida into the mix for good measure. He did not need to kill those men earlier, but he did. Their hearts probably serve some purpose.
Ajora's next question was to be expected.
He wants to invite me into his little group.
Will you?
Depends on what he tells me.
Daniel took a few seconds to respond, looking out over the water that was spilling over the Atlantian plateau.
“Are the missions I do to collect resources for ShinRa... more important than bringing back Earth? The answer is NO. However I do this for many reasons Ajora. Bringing back our world doesn't seem possible right now. Strengthening ShinRa does. Prosperity here in this new hodgepodge world can bring peace, and possibly answers.”
The Turk turned to look at the “Dragoon”
“Your questions lead me to think that you want me to come with you. And that your goal is to bring back Earth. How would you bring back Earth? What have you found that motivates you to come here?”
Ajora's dodges would not suffice this time. Daniel could not be won over by vague half-truths when it came to his motivation and allegiances.

[ Ajora : Atlantis : Underground Cavern Opening / Atlantis Proper ]
"Ooo, two questions, you're getting risky," he mused, grinning as he spared a glance to Daniel before looking back toward the cave. Pretty soon...
"How would I bring back Earth? Dunno, I'm not part of the group that wants to," he responded, shrugging. "I guess probably try yet another Kingdom Hearts attempt? But those never seem to end well for anyone."
"What have I found that motivates me to come here? The Heart of Atlantis," he said, as if the answer were obvious. "The world's a lot simpler than some people want it to be, kid. Power is power, and with the right mind it'll keep you alive. Only those most fit to survive in an environment will. Natural selection... something forgotten by men both from Earth and here, it seems."
By the end of his response, Ajora's grin had vanished, leaving him with a rather sour face. That, however, would not have lasted more than a couple moments.
"Seems I get the last two before our little idiot arrives," he began with shrug, his disposition once more swinging into nonchalance and amusement. He could feel that Kyla was getting fairly close to the ground by now. "What is your honest and full opinion of me as of right now, aaaand... what's your favorite color?"

[Daniel :: Atlantis :: Cavern Opening -> Atlantis Proper]
Yet another person who knows nothing about how to bring earth back. Was the combination of worlds a natural occurrence?
I don't know, I wasn't paying attention.
Ajora's answer to the second question was also to be expected. The concepts of natural selection, simpler older systems of power, of life and death were all very familiar to Daniel. The show that the man in white put on earlier might have be seen by some as arrogant, but Daniel respected his display for what it was. Ajora was a man above others; he would not be equaled and was thorough in keeping it that way. From the simplest gesture like standing in front of his men to the grandest plots like stealing the Heart of Atlantis for himself; Ajora would not allow a loss to his stature.
With this in mind Daniel formulated a response.
“You... are a lot like ShinRa. Though I will say this.. if what you say is true, It's not a matter of attaining power as much as its about claiming what you think is rightfully yours. Don't get me wrong, I respect power. Even right now...”
Daniel eyed the trident for a moment before locking eyes with Ajora again.
“I'm at your mercy. I'm not bitter for that, that's just the way it is. I don't think you should have killed those men, though. I understand removing obstacles to your goals, but when you have the power to lower an entire squad of men's weapons, rip out their hearts, and send their captain flying... That's not an obstacle, that's crushing ants. I don't think what you did was right.”
You tell him~!
I'm not here to lecture, I'm just stating my views. He doesn't really care, I'm sure. Sometimes you get the really crazy people who have the power to change the rules, and then they just don't care whats right and wrong. They DEFINE whats right and wrong.
What do you do with those people?
You hope someone just as crazy comes along to stop them. We are in desperate need of Batman.
Zodiark, tapping into Daniel's memories of childhood cartoons, laughed histerically
I'm glad you found that funny, there's hope for you yet, Zodiark!
Daniel leaned over to grab a pebble and threw it over his shoulder towards the water.
“Blue.. No, Green! AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~”
The pebble hit the water with a splash. Daniel then looked towards the entrance, wondering who they were were waiting for. All of the espers mentioned had been accounted for, so this person was not of Ajora's primary team. Whoever it was, he also didn't hold the "little idiot" in high regard.
Sibling perhaps?
That reminds me...
"If we have time, what did you mean by 'two Ultimas'? Zodiark was confused about that."

[ Ajora : Atlantis : Underground Cavern Opening / Atlantis Proper ]
Ajora released a small, amused laugh at certain parts of Daniel's answer. Particularly the parts about 'rightfully his' and 'wasn't right'.
Nature has no morals. Nature has no favorites.
"I'm a Replica," he explained bluntly, and though the shift in stance was only measurable in centimeters, Daniel might have noticed he'd readied the Trident, his eyes focused on the entrance. "A clone of another Earthling, without any Light in my metaphysical make-up--essentially a Heart of pure Darkness. He has the original Ultima."
By this point, Kyla had certainly landed. She would be finding her way to the entrance now, but he could not see her in the shadows; there was no need, however, since the Unversed still had their eyes trailed on her for him.
"I'll save my return question for a later date. Fair warning," he said, rotating his jaw somewhat as if to relieve tension. "When she walks through, I'll likely lose my temper. I'd prefer you alive, so don't interfere."

[ Helga ; Rourke ; Kida ; Milo : Atlantis : Outside Throne Room ]
Rourke opened his mouth to shout, only to look down Tseng's barrel. The other mercenaries were already lowering their weapons and getting on either side of the road, not wanting to get in the way of whatever was coming--and coming fast. Finally, with a growl and a toss of Kida, he stepped aside and looked toward the coming assault, keeping his gun at the ready.
Helga growled and tried to get to her feet again, covering her gunshot wound and drinking a quick potion to try and heal the wound.
The blurs and blasts were visible in detail now. They were three identical young men in black-and-maroon suits, jumping back and forth down the street in random patterns--sometimes one would jump high over the others, sometimes they'd switch sides. At all times, however, they seemed to be releasing curious blasts of black magic, leaving scars and stains behind.

As the three 'clones' approached the group ahead, they watched as a man in a similar modern suit took control, making all the men step aside--a wonderful little welcome.
They slowed almost instantly, making their last motion to get in a standard line formation, one right beside the other, as they walked forward. When they finally approached, the central Ajora took a single step more than the other two, a pleasant smile on his face.
"I see you got the message," he said, smiling at the horrified Helga. "Good, you'll live."
"How... how many of you are there?" she asked, falling back against the wall to support herself. She ground her teeth, trying too late to hide her shock. Only one of them had taken out her entire squadron. There were three. And they could use magic. She was so far out of her league she didn't know what to do anymore.
"Not relevant," he answered, looking to Tseng. Artemis was slowly coming into view behind them, and behind her were Nicholas and Alice. "So, you the guy in charge now?"

[Nick :: Atlantis :: Outside Throne Room]
A few moments after one of the Ajoras asking for the guy in charge, Nick had leaped into the air and had crashed down behind the Replica's clones. He gritted his teeth and gave the group a large smile before rolling his neck. A small crack could be heard from those close by, and the Dark Knight cackled madly.
"Ooh, big party. So much fun~" He crooned, hand reaching for the hilt of his blade. Finger by finger, he wrapped his hand around the sword's handle and gripped it before giving a second glance around the group gathered.
If one so much as makes a move on Ajora, limbs will be moved to my possession effective immediately.
Chaos immediately rose a query to Nick. You're that devoted to the Angel? It seems you are capable of learning.
It's not devotion. This world is mine, and all the people within it are my toys. Breaking my toys isn't allowed. It's my sand box and I'll bury you if I want to.
...And we're back to lesson one. Useless mortal... the summon seemed to sigh, as Nick focused his attention back on Ajora.

{Kuro Oni ; James : The Black Pearl : Deck}{{Cue: Mighty Warrior}} James "dashed" forward to quickly close the distance between him and his replica. Darkness fueling his body that probably would have given out on him during other situations. He was unaware of the pain he was in, his mind oblivious to it as he focused on one thing and one thing only, Kuro Oni. The Lunar Gunner threw a haymaker right at Kuro as he came out of the dash, hoping to catch the replica off guard and immediately followed up with another fist to the replica's sternum. Kuro's head turned slightly at the impact of the first blow as it impacted his cheek and then fell back at the second blow to his sternum, the blow possessed enough force to knock the wind out of him. However, even that only stopped the replica or a second.
"Not bad at all... but no where near good enough!" he yelled as he grabbed onto James' hand as he came in for another punch.
Before his original had the chance to draw away or strike again Kuro brought his knee up right into James' stomach and then for good measure he grabbed him by the hair and delivered a powerful head butt.James was seeing stars after getting the wind knocked out of him as Kuro Oni bashed his head with his own. He could tell that the replica was not taking him seriously otherwise he would have continued his assault. Once his vision cleared up he focused his attention back on his replica. He could feel the darkness coursing through his veins, continuing to push his body onwards well beyond it's normal limits. However, he could tell he probably wasn't going to last too much longer. 'I have to end this now...'James' eyes narrowed on Kuro, his replica's back was to the wall of the states room. Without another thought James pushed off of the deck hard into a "dash" to close the distance and immediately went into the first strike of his attack. The first of thirteen furious swipes of the Ferocious Arcanum at his replica as claws of energy cut into the Nightmare Dreadnought relentlessly. The final blow possessed enough force behind it to cause a dent in the wood of the wall. The corsair fell to his knees, more than less completely spent after unleashing the arcanum. He panted heavily as he tried to calm his breathing down after exerting himself so much. His vision spun due to his hyperventilation as he tried to focus on where Kuro was. 'Did that do it?'Kuro felt like he was stuck to the wall after being pinned there by his originals ferocious assault. It had been the last thing he had been expecting, let alone to be in so much pain afterwards. He could feel the blood seeping out of the wounds that now covered his body. However, he wasn't too concerned with them. He finally managed to remove himself from the wall, using it to hold himself up.
"Looks like you've got nothing left...," he said with a gasp of pain as he took a step away from the wall. "Using the darkness has granted you a reprieve, I'm done with you for now," he stated as a dark portal opened up behind him. "But make no mistake! I will end your life! It's just a matter of time."
Without taking his eyes off of his original he walked backwards into the portal and willed it closed as he passed through, vanishing from the deck.Kuro Oni's words barely registered to James, his vision became blurry as he looked at his retreating replica. He was relieved it was finally over, the corsair had nothing more to give, his body beaten and bloody from the fight. His vision slowly faded to black as his body landed on the deck and he passed out.

[Kyla: Atlantis Spire> Bottom> Atlantis entrance]
The rest of the trip down was a repeating pattern of falling, close combat and blowing the unversed away. Some were not worth shooting at and wasting time with. Only if it seemed like whatever was coming was going to slow her decent did she bother to use her offensive capabilities.
It was best to conserve energy. She used a lot of her powers since the battles beginning. She had to have a plan now to bets utilize what she had and not just go barging guns blazing.
When she wasn’t blasting at unversed she’d begun to sketch something new on a fresh page. It was hard trying to concentrate under fire but thank God for that photographic memory of hers.
Kyla had loved the movie Atlantis. It held a special place in her heart for one very personal reason. The climax… the crystals chamber. It had an uncanny resemblance to something that had happened to her as a child and she was awe struck when she watched the movie reenact that memory for her. To this day she’d never forget how it looked. The rock stone wall scaling high above your head, the dark dim lighting from the hovering crystal surrounded by the masks of the fallen kings of the Atlantians past- the dark pool of water just below it which Kida herself walks across to be ultimately consumed by the ancient protector of her people.
No, she’d never forget it, and that was her plan B.
Plan A was ultimate defense, Tyue was ready but the real defining factor was speed. She was a magical power house, but she knew her weaknesses, and needed to compensate for them if she was going in alone. Just in case- she had her Birn Strike lvl 3 ready and waiting. Carbuncle could hold defenses and distract long enough for her to launch it. Her pen was poised and waiting to either used a flock of minors, the big daddy, or her escape route if what met her within was just too much for her to handle. Problem was, if she did this- there would be nothing left. Nothing. She’d be completely helpless unless someone gave her an ether or she FINALLY got some sleep. Kyla prayed it wouldn’t come to that.
Still she had no clue what was awaiting her at the entrance to the cave. Now would be a good time to perhaps come in with something to throw the enemy off balance. She wasn’t sure just how good they were with gleaning intel if someone was onto her approach or how many would be there- And idea came to her.
Might as well, if it doesn’t work just drop it.
With the sound of ruffling pages, the pieces filtered together over her book. It was so seamless a transition, it looked like she pulled the thing from her pages letting the book fade away form existence in its wake. It could have easily been real if one didn’t understand what was going on or was the suspicious type- but who would dare to risk it? A few maybe.
When Kyla would finally come into sight she wasn’t a girl lobbing a large sketch book in her hand. Instead it was an oddly familiar weapon which hopefully would make a replica think twice about approaching her head on.
((whoohoo! Albus makes a minor appearance! NO it's NOT real! For those new to this - she's using Paper Thin. XD)

[ Ajora : Atlantis : Underground Cavern Opening / Atlantis Proper ]
Ajora sneered. "Cute."
It didn't matter what she wielded. It didn't matter what enchantments she'd laid. It didn't matter how many layers of protection she placed on herself.
Nothing mattered under the gaze of the Trident.
Before the girl could bother to defend herself, the mystic weapon (and both Ajora's hands) glowed, and Ajora threw a hand out in the same way he'd done against the mercenaries. Kyla would have found herself immobilized by an aura of cold, aching light, an immense pressure holding her entirely still. Whatever protections she'd put on her immediately shattered; whatever enchantments unwound.
With the power of the Trident, Ajora crushed all active magic centered around Kyla, nullifying anything that was going on or anything that might be charging (including her access to the charms). If, by chance, this was a fake, a clone made of some sort of magic--then it, too, would immediately be destroyed. Otherwise, Kyla was bound by Ajora's will.
"How many times must I spare you idiots before you learn?" he seethed, his free hand slowly closing, tightening his grip on her (if it was her) to the point of agony. His face had contorted into utter frustration and anger--a look that was entirely unfamiliar to anyone who'd been in his presence so far.
[[ Ajora's MS is 16 without the Trident. Considering what we've seen the Trident do in multiple movies, I'd wager its power boost is a bit off the charts. ]]

[Kyla: Atlantis Entrance]
Oh she was learning.
Figured he'd see through it. She felt a chill as her link severed and her magic unraveled. Kyla didn't quite understand the nature of Ajora's powers, but she did guesstimate he was able to sense the power in things. See them coming maybe? Size them up to some extent?
The doppelganger disappeared. It's form doubled over as the magical grip crushed it and it disappeared into a flurry of pages. They scattered like leaves under Ajora's malice and fell to the cave floor.
It a simple trick, the Paper thin was only good enough to move forward. The rock she plastered it to fell with a heavy thud with the root page disintegrating into dust. Kyla hated traps, and she watched too many movies to just go waltzing in there like an idiot. Besides, the Atlantians didn't know who she was either- they could as easily attack her as well.
Oh well, guess I'm no match for him right now- time for plan B.
It would use up all her magic, but she needed to see what was going on- what had Ajora planned besides the obvious suspicion. It would leave her completly vulnerable but if she could maybe she could give her allies some intel from the inside.
From this distance she could see the city and that was all the intel she needed. The location was within reach now, and she was in the same world boarder. Byt the time the rock fell her pen had dropped to the pape and the gate illuminated on her book. It opened like a cut, a sliver in space and she simply stepped backwards into it. A second later when both feet were planted firmly on the rock floor, and the dim darkness of the chamber enveloped her Kyla's shut the door behind her.
Cya Ajora.
She had only moments, they were coming- and she had no power left. Kyla flattened her body against the wall, finding a crack or at least a corner and dropped down into the shadows. Kyla was good at hiding, least she was back on earth she just prayed no one else in the group coming down would be a err... aura sniffer- whatever the heck Ajora was! So she tried to slow her breathing, and held her position.
Please... I can't die, not yet. I can't stay useless forever.
She looked up towards the floating Kings in the distance of the chamber and prayed.
If you can understand me... have mercy. Let them not see me....

{Tseng : Atlantis : Outside Throne Room}
Tseng's focus remained on Rourke until he finally seemed to give up, tossing Kida and stepping aside like the others had at this point. With a satisfied nod the turk turned his focus towards the blurs and blasts that were approaching and fast. He could tell by the magic that they were blasting, that they were not to be messed with, at least not without the other Turks to aid him.
It didn't take them much longer at all for the three clones and two others to stand before them, Helga asked a question of them. However, it was passed off as irrelevant and they turned his focus to them. He lowered his gun, though still held it at his side, ready to raise it again should the need arise.
"Yes, I have taken control of this operation. We are aborting our mission and are withdrawing at once. We will not involve ourselves with this situation any further. Will you let us leave peacefully?"

[ Ajora : Atlantis : Underground Cavern Opening / Atlantis Proper ]
The moment the paper began to crumple, Ajora hesitated, his eyes narrowing into beady slits as he processed what was going on. By the time the sheets of paper began to dissipate, he was refocusing on his Unversed in the cave, the ones he'd specifically left not to attack but to observe. By the time the rock hit the ground, he was taking another step forward, the aura on his hands slowly darkening to black, ready to try again.
But when he found her, got her exact location in his frame of reference (on no later than his second step), he realized what she was doing--and hesitated long enough to let her slip through her portal.
He would have been fine with that. He would have been perfectly content with her exit--
--except his others felt precisely where she'd teleported to.
With a snarl, he turned around and, in a blur of motion, jumped forward, grabbed Daniel, and slipped into a Corridor of Darkness...

[ Ajora-Proper, Ajora(?), Ajora(??), Ajora(?!?), Artemis ; Helga ; Rourke : Atlantis : Outside Throne Room ]"Hmm," the 'head' Ajora mused, rubbing his chin. "You--" he began, pointing to Tseng; "You--" he pointed to Milo; "You--" he pointed to Kida; "Aaaand.... I guess you," he said, pointing to the wounded Helga.
"Oh, and the other Turk," he said. "You're all free to go. The rest of you? That's up to Nicholas and Alice. Also, you might want to stand back."
A Corridor of Darkness soon appeared in front of them, and out of it came the white-suited Ajora, glowing in a steady black aura, and Daniel, whom he immediately let go. With nothing short of outrage, Ajora lifted his free hand and unleashed a massive wave of unseen force, slamming the doors and practically knocking them off their hinges.
The guards (who had been ready and waiting, having heard the commotion outside) were immediately grabbed in the same way the mercenaries had been, black auras lifting them straight off the ground.
"Everybody but Kida, the King, and Daniel get OUT!" he bellowed, the last word coming out more as a monstrous roar, like an infuriated dragon--it would have resounded through the stone, echoing down even into the Crystal Room where Kyla hid. The guards were flung behind Ajora and down the street, likely into other mercenaries. He marched into the Throne Room, pulling Kida in with another black aura but leaving Daniel to decide what he'd do. The Turk had all of three seconds to decide--the doors immediately slammed after only a few seconds, so his choice was final (though they would not crush him if he tried to get in.
Before anyone else could try to enter, a massive blood-red glyph covered the door. It would not budge unless someone with enough strength, magic or otherwise, attempted to force their way past.
What was worse for Kyla, however, was the glyph was powered by the Trident, like all of Ajora's magicks now--and that meant any magic going in or out of the throne room would be intercepted by the glyph and prohibited from passing through.
There was a moment of pause.
"Anyway, yeah," the leading black-suit Ajora said, clearing his throat. "If I were you guys, I'd get to running."

[ Kyle : Atlantica : Battlegrounds ]
Kyle didn't bother responding to certain quips about his intelligence or his trustworthiness (though he'd have to have a word with Bobbi about that one, since it had come from her to begin with). Instead, he drew something from the gem at his chest--a sheet of paper. One he'd been saving for a very dire situation.
He looked to Kyla to thank her--but she was gone. He saw a speck heading toward the city. He frowned, turning back to the battle and holding the beautifully-done sketch in front of him, charging it with his enhanced magic strength and energy.
I'll have to thank her later.
The sheet erupted into a large, beautiful golden glyph, with symbols of both Kyle and Kyla's origin. He charged the spell with a large amount of energy, hoping to hit the entire battlefield.
Suddenly, massive spear-shaped pillars of light descended upon the battlefield at random points, each easily as tall as the castle towers. Due to the sheer amount of power behind the Dual Limit, the likelihood of anything being unaffected was infinitesimal. Those enemies caught within the boundaries were immediately Stopped in time.
"Remember, try to get as many people away from the battlefield as possible," he announced over the charms as he drank an Ether to replenish the mana spent as he began to swim--even less than a blur due to the enchantments being laid upon him--toward the battlefield.
With each passing moment, he began to lay more enchantments on himself. First, using Joe's wind magic and speed-based skills, he reduced the friction around himself and his weapons (by a sizable amount due to the magic boost). Second, he used Noelle's earth magic to enhance Kyle's own enchantment, as well as her nature magic to draw kelp from around the area and manipulate it, encasing his weapons in sharp barbs. Third, he applied more of Joe's wind magic on his weapons, giving each enchantment an added boost of razor wind.
As he passed through the armies (noticing some men getting excited and decimating the front lines), he slipped behind enemy lines to look at what was left. What he saw excited him.
They'd already been nearing the end. The Atlantican Army and the rest of his friends had already cleared out easily half of assault, and they'd barely sustained any losses. The only reason Kyle kept swimming, however, was the abundance of Geists. There were still a large amount of Geists. Only Bobbi, Mathy and Kyla (with the Ice Spirit) had had any advantage, unlike the rest of the weaker beasts, so while their numbers were dented (largely by Bobbi's massive Ice spell earlier), they were still a decent threat. They could unravel everything with their memory draining.
Still... even without this last effort, we would have won. More losses, but...
Kyle pushed faster, deciding to up the ante that Siren had laid on him. With no small amount of effort, he laid his most powerful enchantment yet--one that he could only cast once in a lifetime, in a full power drive, with the help of so many other allies: Braveja.
.:Careful. You're starting to overload your circuits.:.
Needs to be done.
Once he was far enough back, he glanced up at the top of ocean, looking for the telltale sign of a whirlpool. Lo, there it was, the two ships fighting above him.
Worth a shot.
Matching the direction of the whirlpool, Kyle began to put all his effort into spinning, his enhanced speed making him a powerful blender-esq monstrosity. In seconds, Geists and other monsters alike from meters away were being pulled into his blades, unable to resist being shredded due to their Stopped status. As he continued to speed up, the underwater tornado would slowly grow, visible even from where the front lines were.
"Guys, something's not right," he said over the charms to those still in Atlantica. "We're winning fairly decently. When you evacuate the men, head to the castle and scope things out."
