Ambrose suddenly felt as if a huge spotlight had been shown on him.
Whatever was paining Amaya was getting more pressing... and he didn't like the path his mind was following in the least. What if... what if it was happening?! RIGHT THEN?!
"Oh god..." Ambrose whined as his hand joined Amaya's on her swollen abdomen. It was rumbling...
"I... I... I... I... I don't know. I don't know. I've never done this before!" Ambrose looked around frantically. "Don't you... need water? Hot water or something? towels?"
He looked for Delia, maybe she could help? She helped at the clinic. But the matronly woman was mysteriously absent. Should they call the labs?
"Amaya... you... you think... it might... uhm... you know?"

Amaya gave another painful whimper and nodded at Ambrose, somehow just knowing that it was happening. "Ss-scared..." She sobbed, letting out a loud pained hiss.
... Then was oddly silent.
Her shoulders seemed to slump and her body wasn't as tense, even her whimpering and sobbing came to a screeching hault. The girl's yellow eyes were void of any emotion, like she had slipped off into a trance... the same trance she had sunk into only hours before to dig her burrow.

Alec's marble-like eyes widened along with Ammbrose's panicked expression, jaw dropping, gawkingly silent. "Ye kiddin' me.... NOW!? Wh-... Wha' th'ell d'we do?" The boy squeaked before frantically looking around the empty cafeteria in vain. There was no one else around to help or even call for help, he was too intent on remaining right where he was for the time being. "Towels?" He repeated, looking around the room again. He could check the servery area but he wasn't even sure if he'd be able to reach anything. The sharkboy was frozen in his spot, flushed and panic-stricken. A baby... this was not happening.

As much as Ambrose wanted to be a father some day, he was NOT prepared for the integral participation in the process thereof. ESPECIALLY not when the individual was the closest thing he had to a little sister. It wasn't right. Not at all.
And it was doubly disconcerting when her eyes glazed over and she seemed to go into a strange trance. Was that normal?!
"Amaya?! Amaya! Can you hear me?" He waved his hand in front of her eyes seeking a recognition of his presence.
Ambrose glanced at Alec's wheel chair. "Maybe... maybe you should stay here with her.... I... I should get a doctor." Ambrose tried to stay calm, stay rational. Be a comfort to these two kids while he did the right thing. But his ears pressed back, his tail between his legs gave away just how unfamiliar Ambrose was in this sort of situation.

Though their screaming didn't seem to reach her at all, even the padded hand waved over her eyes went totally unoticed.
But before Ambrose could get up for help, there was an... odd, moist feeling on his lap. Not shortly after did a dull sound come from below: a soft, white egg laying on the cafeteria floor.

Alec had begun nodding to Ambrose at the suggestion but all that left his mind the second he saw the small, whitish... thing underneath Amaya. At first he had no idea what it was, confused at what exactly was even going on until he put two and two together. An iguana doesn't have one big buddle of joy, it appears they have many little ones. Either that or she was messing about with somesort of bird.
"Alrigh'..." Alec slowly swallowed, eyes locked on the thing on the floor. "C'n a' stawt screamin' neh?" He'd say he was joking if he was sure he was lying, but at that moment it seemed an appropriate thing to do.

Ambrose could feel the blood draining from his face as the moist "plunk" hit his lap. Belatedly, his eyes traveled downwards to confirm the disturbing sensation. His jaw fell slack as he saw the smooth, round-ish object sitting in his lap.
All of the fur on the wolfman suddenly was on edge as the surreality of the situation hit him like a two-by-four to the face. After everything he had been through - the changes happening to him and to his friends - not only seeing and experiencing becoming a canine but seeing others become birds, fish, and reptiles... in Ambrose's mind they were still people - and they always had been. Perhaps that was a perspective garnished from being the first to change, for being there as so many people progressed through their changes - knowing almost all of them as unique human beings before even the first scale or feather graced their bodies. But this... this was too much. This was more than an outward appearance, more even than sensations he experienced to lick the face of a loved one or to shake himself dry.
Ambrose nodded dumbly at Alec, not able to find his own words at the time.
Amaya just laid an egg. Eggs belonged on his breakfast plate. Eggs were laid by chickens and birds and other animals that never had a sentient thought go through their brains. Eggs did NOT come from friends. From people. It seemed more animalistic to the wolfman than her appearance as a massive iguana. If there was a cow on the island, would it give milk?? Ambrose gave a full body shudder.
The significance, the connotations went spirialing through his mind. Would these eggs hatch? What of children? Would they be animals?
Did the labs know? Why weren't they doing anything?? What could he do? Was he even supposed to do anything?
Morbid fascination kept Ambrose in his seat, staring at the white egg that rested on the floor... a if it has somehow escaped the buffet and not the girl in his lap.

Though as the two males stared dumbfounded at the egg on the floor, by no means was Amaya's body about to stop what it had started just so they could collect their thoughts.
There was only a breif pause before the same thing happened again, another egg joining the other side-by-side. And by the size of the eggs and the size of Amaya's pregnant stomach, it was certainly not the last one to come.

Alec would've shook his head if it wouldn't deter his vision on the event at hand. This was too much. With all the changes he'd experienced in the past, he never even considered the possibility that the internal structure would change just as drastically as the outward appearance. Even so, laying eggs was unbelievable. If he wasn't seeing it for him firsthand, he would've never believed it. "God's on 'igh." He murmured as the eggs kept coming, wishing that the next would be the last. The teen wasn't even sure if he should call the labs anymore, the prospect for experimentation were endless after this discovery. Selfishly, the thought of hiding them struck his mind.

Ambrose felt like he was descending into a state of shock. This wasn't natural, it wasn't natural at all, and yet he couldn't make himself look away or move. Just ineffectively hold Amaya as the eggs kept coming.
It was bad enough seeing this kind of thing on a nature show, but live? And from a person?!
He swallowed. Amaya still seemed to be in the strange sort of daze. They should probably take her to the labs, but how could they move her like this? How could he even leave her side if she was still sitting on his lap.
"Do... do you think we should... do something with them?" Ambrose asked weakly. "Put them... in something? I mean... do... are these supposed to hatch??" He squeaked.

As both of the discussed what to do, the eggs seemed to start coming faster and faster. Soon five of them were in a heap on the floor, then six... seven... eight...

Alec continued to keep watch from his front-row seat of the weird event, the pile growing ever-larger as time passed. He wondered if the labs were watching and what they were thinking about all this. For all he knew, Amaya could have chosen the worst place for this to happen. "Don' le' th'labs ge' em." The teen suddenly breathed, hearing Ambrose's panicked concern. If these little things really were mini-Amayas, there was no way in hell he was going to let the Staff members spirit them away to their labs.

"Why not?!" Ambrose asked, his eyes glued to the pile. "They're doctors above all else.... wouldn't they know what to do??"
How long would this last? How many did she have in... in there?! And would she be alright?!

Egg after egg quickly made the pile underneath her grow. 10... 11... 12...
After each egg dropped the girl seemed to be getting thinner and thinner, even to the point where she looked emaciated and horribly skinny. 13... 14... 15...
... And then things seemed to stop. Amaya blinked, the emotion coming back to her eyes. So tired... weak... Her frail body wavered until it flopped into Ambrose, though she said nothing yet.

Alec didn't want to say it. Did Ambrose not even consider the fact that children of Islanders presented themselves as prime targets for experimental 'research'? And with so many, assuming they were all indeed alive to some degree, it was an insatiable temptation. "She needs a docteh." The boy finally croaked, staring now at Amaya's sickeningly thin frame. A meal and a drink was not going to fix that, she needed medical attention. 'Maya....'Maya aw' ye ekay?" He began to creep forwards again, jealous of Ambrose's comforting embrace. How he wished he was able to offer comfort right now during such a horrible ordeal.
