It's a case-by-case basis.

When blinking causes a robot to go perform complex motions, assaults and counter-assaults, and create you breakfast, the indication of automation is too obvious.

Also, NEVER.

Farmer with Shotgun? A-OK. Farmer with Pitchfork? Sweet.

Some corn the farmer planted with no sentience or abilities kinda rolling a little on the ground? The ******** is that?

Strengths: Tastes delicious."

Alright, thanks Jello. I just thought it would be interesting to ask, cause I believe if I saw someone roleplaying a character like that, it would be extremely interesting if done right.

I agree, it would and I'd love to see it.

Huh.. I wonder how you would balance that character, other than the obvious "The puppet only does as you do."

Like.. what else would you give the character so that he could be weak, yet, at the same time have a way to defend himself if someone got around the puppet?

I know you weren't asking me but since I'm quoted I'll chime in, too! I'm feeling rather opinionated today! >=O

Like I said, I do like the puppeteer character concepts, whether it be a puppet or a machine. It's just, yeah... the line would probably be when you can control multiple puppets/machines to do all manners of complex actions.

And yeah, I've never been a fan of a swarm of telekinetically controlled knives and s**t. One or two, sure. Or maybe just one enchanted to come back to your hand, or only controlled to such a limited extent by some kind of magnetic force, i.e. no omnidirectional, omniscient aim stuff.

I think one big problem is it exhausts the opponent to focus on having to take our multiple "targets" in the case of multiple puppets/machines, all the while leaving the owner unharmed and relatively fresh, since control usually does not seem to require much exertion (though it should require tons of concentration). So would they automatically lose control of the fight because technically the puppetmaster never got harmed, regardless of how many puppets/robots had been expertly taken out/destroyed/dealt with?

And then when most of these fights don't go past 2 pages, yeah... just having two or three relatively durable machines/puppets means you will never get to touch their master, unless you use some kind of AOE super special that would in turn get you banned.

Well, you wouldn't really have to make the character weak. Just make him not have any powers other than controlling the puppet and not have him wear armor due to having to make complex movements (aka: spell failure chance).

My character puppets a sword. When he swings the hilt, the sword goes fwoosh! And sometimes, if he gets lucky, he cuts someone!

God, I miss those kind of characters.

Also: See the OOC bitching and stuff in the fight thread?

Never do that.

I think that should be considered RP fighting 101.

There is never any point to argue in the actual fight thread. It detracts from everything.

Or you go around it.

I mean, Round 2 is fighting on a 40-foot square in the water. If you start near the middle that's 20 x 40 room where he can try to get away in. If you try to box him into one of the corners that's like 20 x 20 now. There is a hard edge to this arena that should be used in these situations.

...still though, it seems a little odd to me that a 45' square is being described as a 'small arena' by Vintrict. I guess he's expecting people to go flying and doing crazy acrobatics but generally in a melee fight, unless you're trying to use the terrain, you won't move more than 10 feet or so from where you started.

When I make 'small arenas' for HoH I want to make them feel really cramped. Like that Hotel Elevator ring. And I'm thinking of doing some catwalks this year.

Whoa, my point of view is completely to the contrary. Let's battle.

Well, it seems like an unfortunate result of THE INTERNET that popularity correlates with winning in RP tournaments, and people that don't poke their noses into the OOC tend to be less popular because they aren't there to chime in when people are bashing their fight... or that people bash their fight when they're not around, so being around would prevent that.

Either way, it seems like the people that never come into the OOC always do more poorly than the people who hang around and joke around and are well liked. Likely it has to do with the fact that when someone is critical over something in a fight it comes up in the OOC, and then everyone comments, and then everyone starts being a hater, and public opinion of that person's performance in the fight turns south.

Omi is exempt though. He's here ALL THE ******** TIME and we just can't seem to get rid of him.

Maybe I should stop posting in the OOC, then.
