to be honest, i would pick up the Vindicator Linebreaker Squadron if you can find it. a single vindicator is £25, but the linebreaker squad is £45 and has 3 of them (your paying 2 and getting the 3rd free basically!) i did this and then sold 2 of them assembles but not painted. i got about £40 for them both, almost enough to cover the box. so i not only got a brand new vindy for a fiver, i then used the money to buy more stuff!

a few months later though, i sold all my marines...

Keep the vindicator linebreaker squadron. with the Land raider Ares, it is pointless to have one because it will just absorb all the fire, and one demolisher cannon isn't that effective against massed infantry. The flamers need to be in range and whilst you are doing that you can't shoot. The assault cannons are good, but still will probably take down a terminator squad at the most.

The vindicator line breaker can fire all at once, using the apocolypse large blast template so you can remove terrain from the board. and it won't draw that much fire in an apocolypse game because it is only 3 vindicators. if youspace them out then assault termie squads will not be able to deploy to take them all out at once.

If you want a land raider get a terminus ultra, considering it is still apocolypse we are talking about. it has 3 twin linked lascannons and two individual. front armour 14, as per usual, but doesn't have the capacity to carry any marines or termies. sad

for its price Vindicator offers great firepower... no one argues with S10, and the big pie-plate of doom is just sweet - I use one almost always, and would use more if heavy slots werent used by redeemers...

Could someone let me know what weapons are recommended for a ten man tactical squad of space marines? For now i made a marine with a bolt gun and im about to make my sargeant with the chain sword and a bolt pistol... what would you recommend?

WAIT!
Give you sargeant a power sword or power fist. It's better than a chainsword. or, use the plasma pistol that comes with the box. This way you have (off the top of my head) Str. 7 Ap. 2 weapon.

give your ten man tac squad a FREE, yes, absoloutley FREE heavy bolter. this way you can soften them up from range before charging into close combat or just holding an objective. If you are going to be up against a more SM or CSM, even TAU army, but most likely it's going to be NIDS for the new codex, you might want to add a missile launcher. its worth it, just only use krak and fire at tanks, frag is a waste IMHO. Also, for free you may take a multi melta, which is practically the tank f*cker you can also take a free flamer, or upgrade it for 5 points, to a Meltagun. well worth it imo.

to summarise, Give your sarge a plasma pistol or power weapon/fist, and take a free heavy bolter or missile launcher. Aim for flexibility with your army so that you can do more than just what you intend for it to do. If you field a devastator squad then lose it, you may want your tactical squad to be able to fill some of that role. in all honesty, its pretty much impossible to take a space marine squad that just owns everything. You have to think about the role you want it to fullfill. What are you going to field with it? Will you have tanks? are you taking terminators? Etc.

Yeah, it's hard to go wrong with the free weapons that can be taken by the squad. However, there's nothing wrong with keeping a unit at absolute base kit to use as objective campers or CC meatshields.

Well, as much as I agree, objective campers are good at splitting the enemy up, but they will get handed to if they can't defend themselves, so take the free weapons. will help if you obj. camp. As for meatshields, as long as they went in before then that would be good. but still you can fire a meltgun then charge, can you not?

Hm... so if i got this right, i should equip my sargeant with the plasma pistol in one hand and what else? the heavy bolter and missile launcher are two handed... plus i dont have a heavy bolter or any power weapons that i know of at the moment, dont think any came with the box. At the moment this is my first squad so i have no idea what else ill add to my army. But just for it right now, what should i put on the sargeant?
