Tavin
Captain

*Tavin nodded, sternly*

Good. Now listen carefully. This will be tough. I want you to make the ball take two seconds longer to go through the entire process, without adding any more force or height to your throw. What you need to do is concentrate on the ball when it reaches its apex, and with your mind, force it to remain motionless for two more seconds. The key is focusing on the ball so hard that you know with every fiber of your being that it will stay motionless.

*Tavin coughs*

Now go practice. I need to get some more rest.

*Tavin gets up and walks off to the guest rooms*

:::Cora was a bit surprised that he walked away before he watched her first attempt, but she understood that he needed rest...perhaps it was for the better. She wouldn't get nervous if she did it alone:::

:::When he was out of site, Cora took a breath and focused on the ball. She began to realize just how much work this was going to take:::

:::Finally, she tossed the ball up, she knew the very moment that it would hit the zero point, and at that very moment she focused as hard as she could imagining the ball staying there. She felt the tension build up, first at the front of her head, and then it dispersed backwards and downwards, all within miliseconds. The ball came back down and hit her hand. Cora gasped:::

eeehhh... :::She scrunched her facial muscles together and moaned, it almost hurt...the pressure was outstanding. She was so busy feeling that, that she couldn't even tell whether or not the ball slowed down at all:::

:::She gave herself a few moments, and tried again. It didn't feel any easier. She was starting to develope a headache, but she kept on. She gave herself a good 3 or 4 minutes to relax, then tried again:::

:::She kept it up until the pain was nearly unbearable. Then she grabbed some wine...and waited till she felt like she could handle more:::

:::There Cora stayed for hours, tossing the sphere up, focusing as hard as she could, willing it with all her heart. When the pain got to be too much, she stopped, had more wine, and went right back to it. She was afterall, part machine...although, anyone with an eye noticed that she only tossed the ball with her left arm:::

:::After a long time, she was starting to feel like perhaps the ball was beginning to slow. She felt as though the catch was delayed, but she couldn't tell, it was hard to think past the pain. She got tired of waiting for it to subside, especially since it was beginning to last longer and longer the more persistant she was:::

:::She debated with herself for a moment. The pain is there for a reason...it's an indicator that something is wrong, in this case, there is too much pressure...but I don't want to waste anymore time. Who knows when the Seraphim will show up again:::

:::With that final thought, she took her administrator gun from her belt, and loaded a vial. She injects herself, and within moments, her face relaxes, her shoulders slump just a bit and she takes a deep breath. She knows that the pressure is still there, but at least now she doesn't have to concentrate on it. There were much more important things at hand:::

Slowly Tac fades in, back to Cora, both guns cocked and ready. Blood is smeared across the whole of his trenchcoat and a piece of a human heart is seemingly glued to his boot. Blood was smeared across his face and he looked as if he had been pressed up against a wall, for cover. He was breathing heavily and whispering to himself, "Some Valentine's Day week this turned out to be. Who the ******** uses hearts as minions?" He took a deep breath and whirled around as if stepping around the corner, both guns raised into the darkness as he started to yell some cliche action star line, but paused, blinking that there wasn't a guy wearing a cheesy heart shaped suit anymore...just darkness. He looked around and blinked a few more times, mumbling with a bit of a sigh, "And I was just getting to the cheesy action star bit."

:::Cora is about to toss the tennis ball up once more when suddenly she hears Tac's voice. She whirls around, a smile growing in her face, but it's gone in an instant when she sees the way he looks:::

Tacitus!! What happened!?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2005 10:27 pm

He looks to her and smiles, then looks down at his attire, "Oh, that. You ever had about one hundred little squishy bloody things thrown at you? It hurts and its reeeeeeally messy." He kicks the bit of heart off his boot, and tries to hide it from view, "Damn buggers. And no, none of the blood is mine, for once." With a click both Cari and Orcus had their safties put on as Tac made a swift motion and the two found their way into their holsters, strapped in and ready to go. He then slowly pulled off the trenchcoat and let it drop to the floor, concealing the chunk of human heart, but not before using a bit of it to wipe his face and hands. He pulled a pair of shades from one of his many many pockets, and with a flick of the wrist they unfolded and found their way to his visage. He took a step forward as he adjusted them, then spread his arms out wide, "How they look? The shades, they're new. I kinda like 'em."

:::her expression didn't change much. Her mouth hung open a little bit. He seemed light hearted...even though there was blood everywhere:::

Tacitus...I don't understand what happened to you. If you're alright, who in the world does all this blood belong to??
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2005 10:35 pm

He shrugged, "I got a call at the GPD about a big flash of light, and when I went to investigate I found this wierdo instead. He had gotten himself all despressed about Valentine's Day because he couldn't get a date and decided to...quite literally break a few hearts. Quite mentally unstable if you ask me. Its not his blood, as far as I can tell, but I'd REALLY rather not go into it. I can just tell you'll have a problem with it in so many different ways." He took a chair and set it on top of the trenchcoat, blocking most of it from view. He then looked back at her and smiled, "So, whats with the tennis ball?"

:::Cora was deeply disturbed, but she was also deeply in pain, and she seemed to put that aside easily enough, for the situation called for it. She sighed, and let it go for the moment, it was time to perform her duty:::

The Captain has suffered a loss of power it seems, but he was finally able to instruct me on how to attain a power of my own, with which I may assist in the battle against the Seraphim. He told me that I must learn to slow down the ball as it reaches zero gravity. I am not sure that I'm doing it correctly. I must have tried it a thousand times, I still don't know if it's really working.

:::Cora tosses up the ball, and focuses as she had. This time, without the pain blinding her perception, she once again thought she felt it delayed at landing in her hand:::

Tac blinked as he watched her toss the tennis ball up into the air. He took a step forward, "Ok, the thing with Tavin aside, now...what exactly are you doing? I get the whole throwing the ball into the air bit...but the rest kinda confuses me. No...wait. Lemme reason through this." He blinked a few times, scrunching his face in thought, then snapped his fingers, "Trying to alter gravity here in the Brink?"

:::Cora thought for a moment, and it sort of hit her:::

No..! Not the gravity! The time, he needs me to manipulate the time it takes the ball to move. I have to slow down the time around the ball.

:::This in mind she focuses again. She throws the ball up into the air, and as it hits the anticipated zero, she imagined a field roughly the same in volume as the ball and its contents. She imagined forcing that immidiate field to pause where it is for longer than it normally would. Soon it was no longer imagination, but will. When it hit her hand this time, she was sure that it had taken longer to drop:::

Hah ha!! :::She let out a triumphant laugh, before suddenly feeling herself get weak. She couldn't feel the pain, but it was still taking its toll. A quick couple beeps were heard from her right wrist, where her cuff was.:::

Tac blinked and he thought he was going to fall over himself, then started laughing at the irony, "C...Cora...wait...you...controlling time. Oh thats damn funny. I might actually get jealous." He watched as she made her attempt, nodding his head, but glanced around when he heard the beep, "The hell was that?" He looked at his own watched, which riddles his left arm, but most of them were inactive or only had a stopwatch feature. He looked back to Cora, "Are you beeping?"

:::She steadies her self, and swallows hard:::

It's... :::She didn't want to lie, but she couldn't tell him the truth either::: the cuff. It probably senses that I've grown tired from practicing this, but that's all.

:::She looks back at the ball::: He wants me to delay it a full two seconds. I have to keep working at it. :::She tosses it up again, and focuses the same way she had a moment ago, harder this time, she wanted it more:::

:::It was finally working. The ball landed back in her hand almost a full second later than it was supposed to normally:::

amazing... :::Her knees felt as though they could buckle. The effect was beginning to grow exponentially. Her wrist beeped again, and spoke:::

System abnormality detected. Cerebral blood vessels restricting at unnominal rate and climbing. Chances of cerebral damage apparent, prepair for system shut down.

:::Cora's eyes bulged, she shot a glance over at Tacitus, then back away:::

Computer, no! Abort! Abort system shut down!

Negative. System shut down is imperative. Commensing system shut down.

:::Before Cora could call any other commands out, the sound of a small depressurized release was heard, and her mechanic arm injected a series of chemicals into her blood stream, one of which was a powerful tranquilizer. Her eyes rolled back into her head, and she began falling towards to the floor like a rag doll:::
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:27 pm

At first Tac shrugged it off, sure, it was the cuff, and even smiled a moment as she was able to stop the ball in midair, a small tear of proud and joy forming at the edge of his eye. Thought he quickly ripped back to reality as the mechanical voice started issuing warnings and the like. He blinked, not knowing what to do, his hands making half gestures, but as soon as he saw her go out he almost leaped forward to catch her. His footing wasn't the best and he nearly fell himself when he tried to catch her, but he held onto her and slowly brought her down onto her back. He looked over to his coat, and hesitated, it wasn't exactly the best pillow in its current state, and he didn't feel resting her head on his lap would be best...what if she needed medical attention? He glanced around one more and then down at his shirt. He quickly shrugged it off and placed it under her head as he looked back towards the bar. He needed something to wake her up...no..wait, he needed to make sure she was ok. Gah! Why was it he could handle genocidal meniacs, but without help he couldn't keep his cool in a first aid situation? stressed

:::The tranquilizer used was strong enough to coarse through all the extra vessels in her denser muscle mass. It would have taken out an elephant, if such a thing existed in her time. She would be out until the arm decided it was safe for her to become active again:::
