He looked her way. "Not usually. It's just.." He glanced back at the kitchen door. "Looking through that book brought back quite a few memories. People, places, events. Most of which are gone." He shook his head and smiled. "And thinking of the past always gets me thinking of the future."

Nyl sighed softly, sitting back down. "I have way too much past to think about," she said with a shake of her head and a grin. "And...I guess after a while, you just get used to thinking only about the next immediate ten minutes, if that makes any sense. But when that's constantly all that's important - especially in a fight - your mind kind of gets stuck there. Mine does, anyway. I don't think much about the past or future."

"It's not a common train of thought for me, either. But when it hits, it hits pretty hard." He turned toward her and leaned against the counter. Accommodations like this had almost become subconscious: staying within people's line of sight, keeping his eyes open and towards those that knew the difference. "Maybe I should spar more. That would put me in the right frame of mind."

And if you lost control in your spar? If it got out, and got someone? Not everyone has a second voice in their head to help them with this.
Nyl said none of this, and nothing in her expression betrayed that she was thinking it. She just smiled vaguely, thoughtfully.

(( Out of the blue came a familiar face as a pale woman in a black tank top and gray cargo pants made her way towards the dojo. Her onyx kick-a** boots made soft indents in the soft soil, the cold chill air blowing the hair from her face...

Iri steps into the kitchen, book and pen in hand. The meal she cooked earlier is still sitting on one of the tables. Iri sits down, spoons some of the sausage and potatoes onto a plate, and takes an experimental bite. Though it's a little cold, it tastes just fine. She opens her book on the table and finishes the entry she began earlier as she eats.

Nyl lifted her head from where it rested on her arms. She glanced around hurriedly, in case Seph was there, but she saw only Iri sitting at the table with her.
That's a relief.
"Hey, Iri. What's up?"

Iri shrugs and sets her pen on the table. "Eh, just finished jotting something down. Did I wake you?"

"I dunno." Iri looks down at the bandage and rotates her shoulder. She feels a little twinge, but not much more than that. "Doesn't really hurt. The wound should heal over pretty quickly. I'm certainly not worried about it."

Nyl's grin widened. "I enjoy having sensible people in the dojo again. Not to mention winged ones. ...Sadly, those two traits don't always go hand-in-hand." She brushed her hair out of her face and studied Iri curiously. "You were looking for someone to teach you Kaze, right?"

Iri laughs and says, "Now who isn't sensible around here? I haven't met a single unsensible person yet!" She grins in amusement before continuing, "Yes, I have been looking for someone to teach me Kaze. Teaching myself has been fun, but I know I'm going to run into some problems I can't solve sooner or later."

Nyl stood with a teasing flourish and bowed politely. "Well then, as a Kaze kage, I'd like to offer my services...since we seem to be lacking a sensei at the moment."

Iri blinks. "Really?" She gets to her feet and mimicks Nyl's bow with an appreciative smile. "Nyl, I can't tell you how grateful I am! One thing, though..." Iri straightens her posture and says, "I know what a sensei is, but what's a kage?"
