NEW RP

For the most part, she pretended not to notice his intense looks of thought, and she felt that ignoring them would be better for both of them. No embarassment for him, and no anger or self esteem blows on her end.

With the nudge, she waited for him to walk out and then locked the door before setting off towards the cafeteria. Somewhere just over half way there, her cigarette was discarded with a flick.

Upon arriving, Antony pushed open the door and slipped inside, not really waiting for Oz to open it for her. Once inside, she made a beeline for the buffet and began to pile her plate with pancakes, waffles, and eggs along with a various variety of dried fruits and nuts to snack on.

Oz hadn't intentionally meant to be thinking this hard, especially after having satisfied a serious bodily urge and enjoyed his time with Antony. She made him feel like he was back in his prime, the young star of the rugby pitch with all sorts of fun females to frolic with. But it was that intense enjoyment, ecstasy that troubled him, contrasted against what she was and what he was.

Technically, wasn't he just like her, but not quite as far along yet? This question gnawed at his gut, along with hunger, as they travelled to the cafe.

Oz was quite amused at Antony's scurry to get food. It brought to mind far too many images of the squirrels in parks, all skittering about for nuts. His diet, whilst still not as good as it should be, was a far cry from pancakes and eggs. Fruit. He had quite a craving for sweet fruits. A tall glass of orange juice, several apples and bananas, two choc chip muffins and a toasted bagel populated his tray.

He hesitated a moment. Would it be inproper to join Antony? He moved over towards her regardless.

For the most part, Anatoli had been an asocial little b*****d lately. Most of his time was spent sulking in his duplex, mournfully playing his trombone and laying in bed all day with his cat. For some reason, he'd started to become more active at night.

But even mopey gits need to eat, and Anatoli acknowledged this by morning as he reluctantly dragged himself to the cafeteria. He looked pretty bedraggled, and even though he'd only had his first transformation one could argue that he's already starting to gain the typical scuzziness of the animal he's becoming. He'd neglected to shave for a couple days now, as well.

He blearily moves over to the buffet, picking out whatever junk food he can grab into a messy pile on his tray.

Ah, apathy. His is enough to rival a teenager's, and he's only in his 30s.

She had no problem with Oz joining her to eat, and she sat down at an open table. No one seemed to be around, but before she could knock on wood, a familiar figure entered the cafe.

Her food was nibbled on sporadically as she watched him lumber about, feeling a bit guilty for never visiting him after the bonfire ordeal. After a bit of stalling, she cleared her throat and smiled. "Hey Toli?"

Oz knew someone else had entered the cafeteria and gave an obligatory acknowledgement by looking over a bulky shoulder to see the newcomer. Oh! He looked vaguely familiar...most likely from the bonfire party weeks ago, where a good portion of Islanders had turned out for the festivities.

He was just lowering his bulk onto a seat next to Antony when she cast a greeting over to the rather scruffy looking fella. Hands looked really grubby, unless it was fur or something. Considering his own rather drastic skin colour change, it wasn't totally unbelieveable that others would develop the markings before the fur.

"He was at the bonfire party, right?" he asked Antony for confirmation.

Truthfully, Anatoli hadn't changed at all since the bonfire, save for personal care (or lack thereof). He looked over at Antony and mumbled something at her, but it's hard to tell what he's trying to say as he half-heartedly waves. "Mornin'."

He's just wearing a wifebeater and some shorts. Grody.

"Yeah, from the bonfire," she answered Oz while rolling up a pancake and taking a large chomp out of it, chewing on it with her brow furrowed slightly. Her ear flicked as he grumbled, trying desperately to hear what he has said before his mumbled greeting.

Upon getting a better look at Anatoli, her muzzle aquired a deep frown and her eyes conveyed genuine concern. "Hey, are you okay...? You look a bit... off." She had wanted to say something a bit more truthful, but he seemed to be in a cranky mood, to say the least.

As an afterthought she motioned to the two open chairs at her and Oz's table.

It did not take Oz long to demolish the muffins and bagel. After spending a rather busy night with Antony, maybe now would be best to leave her in peace, especially seeing as a friend had entered. He wasn't one to intrude un-necesserarily and it might get uncomfortable if Antony were to mention last night.

"I should leave you in peace," he said, hauling himself up and scooping the remaining fruit into a cradled arm. "Get back to the workout I was supposed to be doing."

He smiled at her, putting a large hand on her delicate shoulder in a gesture of...reassurance...tenderness? He couldn't be sure. One night stands were always awkward for him. But nevetheless, he reluctantly withdrew his touch of Antony and cast Anatoli a sincere look of 'get well soon', if that indeed could be said with just a look, as he left the cafeteria.

"Mmh." Anatoli gave a shrug and ambled over to the table, setting his tray down and dropping himself into one of the open chairs. He placed his clawed hands at either side of the tray, looking blearily up at Oz before the big man departed from the cafeteria. He began to shovel food into his mouth, chewing as sullenly as a man could manage.

"'M gunna die," he grumbled through a full mouth.

Antony looked up at Oz and smiled, nodding and patting his hand in a sort of good-bye gesture before turning her attention back to Toli in his grungy state. It took all she had to not roll her eyes at his pitiful angsting.

"Um... We're all going to die someday," she offered hopefully, as if that would make him feel better, but didn't say much else while she ate some more of her breakfast.

Scooting her chair closer to his, she reached out hesitantly and placed a hand on his now black wrist. "I'm... I'm sorry I haven't visited you since the bonfire..." The apology was most definitely genuine.

"I've been havin' seizuahs," Anatoli frowned, swallowing his food. "Or somethin'. Like my mind's goin' and I ain't even that old yet." He shook his head bitterly, burying his face in an open palm. A lot of his problems stemmed from overreacting to things that would have normally just startled him -- freaking out over playing a sour note on the trombone, the sound of something heavy being dropped, and let's not even get into sightings of random islanders that frightened him.

"It's fine." He looked at her hand over his wrist, nervously baring his teeth a little. "I've been a wreck lately, waitin' to see what I'm becomin'."

"Seizures?" She repeated, eyes widening somewhat, fearing that his serum was perhaps failing in some way, shape, or form and that was what caused these seizures. "This island can make anyone crazy..."

The teeth baring made the squirrel inside her fearful, and the fur at the back of her neck prickled slightly at the threatening gesture. However, she held her ground and simply rubbed her thumbpad over the inside of his wrist in a slow, comforting manner. "You could ask the labs, if you wanted."

"Foamin' at tha mouth an' everythin'," Anatoli pulled his face out of his hand, propping a chin up on his elbow. He didn't know that his problems came from the influence of the opossum serum, much less know he was turning into one. "Didn't have 'em befoah I came heeah."

"Tawked to 'em. I got medicated and sent back, guess I just gotta wait for my brain ta leak outta my big ears befoah they do anythin'." There. That's probably the most he's talked about in a good while.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 05, 2006 7:27 pm

"Well, sometimes weird s**t happens because of the serums, but if they sent you back then it's probably not fatal... They don't want us to die. We're worth millions each..." It wasn't exactly a comforting explanation, but it was the truth. The truth, along with physical comfort, seemed to be one of the few things she could offer Anatoli at the moment, and the latter didn't look to be a keen idea at the moment.

At least, that's what the squirrel thought of those teeth.

"Anything I can do to help?" She asked.

"That's very reassuring," Anatoli said before he buried his face in a palm, rubbing his eyes behind his glasses. Ugh, his nocturnal habits had gotten him almost averted to daylight -- he would have gone home to sleep by now if he hadn't been sidetracked.

His lips slipped over his pointed teeth again, though they were still not fully hidden. "I'm at a loss," he replied to her offer, "if ya got any suggestions, feel free ta spill."
