But then, Yokou tilted her head slightly - almost as if in a slight gesture of a nod - and then, turned aside, a gentle almost-flip of long sidebangs and her lovely midnight-blue locks highswept in the tall ponytail trailed with the direction of the wind. From there, for a singular moment, it almost made it look like her hair had gone slightly wavy, as the current of the wind made smooth waves in soft, soft hair.
She really wasn't waiting...
With a frown, and an almost-pout as he thought this, he noted that Saito was heading along too. It wasn't the problem of Yokou's swift pace, that he could keep up with, but more rather...Zephyr really preferred to know where he was going before heading there. Well, it was true, he did want to see the Students...and...and...but he didn't want to see those old geezers yet!
He teetered between the choices lingering in the balance, until he noticed...
Ah!
They were going to leave him behind!
And so, without giving a further thought, he hurried after them.

{Enter} As the gentle heat of the early summer sun engulfed the village Tenma found herself once more at the great river. Over the time she had been absent it seemed as if the waters had begun to calm. However, even with a slightly tranquil surface, there was always the possibility of subsurface currents that would grip and pull at one's feet and ankles. It was a dynamic dance of slow and quick, peaceful and violent. The greatest thing about this duo was the seamless fit of the two, even under the most extreme conditions. One would never reveal the other, always working both independently and as partners. With her mind fixated on the dancing liquid Tenma's body separated from her thoughts as she began fastening weights to her ankles. Though they were only five pounds each it was a considerable weight to the particularly small child. Attempting to get used to them, she lifted and rotated her legs as her mind began to rethink the entire feat. Though it seemed daunting with the straps on her ankles Tenma was a fairly stubborn person, though no one would suspect her to be so, and she wasn't about to give up. Once her mind faultered enough for her to surge her form forward a splash resonated from the water where the child had jumped in. Immediately after hitting the water Tenma felt the rush past her as feet quickly hit the bottom of the river. The floor willingly slid beneath her as the child opened her eyes to the pulsing blue liquid. Hair floated, twisted, entangled above her head as Tenma finally realized she had been pulled to the bottom with only ten extra pounds on her frame. With feet continuing to slip and sink on the bottom she looked up, attempting to find the surface, but black tendrils blocked her vision. If she wasn’t holding her breath she may have sighed, but that would prove to be slightly complicated underneath the river’s face. A forceful push of her legs, toes sinking only further into the sand, and Tenma finally felt herself disconnect with the solid earth beneath her feet. Torrents were left, swirling bubbles and churning water, as she kicked her way to the surface. Breaking through the pane above her the child gasped in a deep breath of air, slightly annoyed when she found herself filling with both air and hair. Clumps of onyx hair snaked over her face and down her neck, clinging to the wet flesh after penetrating the surface. Hastily grasping mats of tangled hair Tenma pulled them forcefully behind her ears as she looked for the opposing bank. Swimming Part II DC: 15 Train: 0/3 Formula: 1d20 + 2 Rewards: +2 Strength

Orientated and finally aware of her position in the water Tenma began to progress through the water. It was disappointing: someone who not only swam often, but thrived in the water, was being pulled down by such a trivial amount of weight. There had been no difficulties carrying the weight to the river on her back, so it made no sense that it should make such a difference in a substance that actually caused you to weigh less than you actually did. Maybe with a bit of further education the child would finally understand, but until then she decided it was just fine to be irritated at the cursed anklets. Eventually, though it didn’t seem like it at the time, she would be stronger for it if not a better swimmer. Taking in a few deep breaths, opening her lungs to the capacity she would require for the task, the child surged forward as she plunged head long toward the center of the river. Her legs kicked and swirled with the water, making attempts to use it for her advantage. But the waters in Konoha were far different from the water back home in Amegakure. With wistful images and memories of home Tenma began to feel disconnect with her body as her mind soared back home with her grandparents. With the pleasant distraction of home and memories the child hardly noticed as her body began to propel forward. No, she was far more focused on the scents of her grandparents. Grandmother Fujiko smelled of sweet berries and pastries that often resembled one of her summer delicacies, this was one of the few things that could gather the entire family together in a time of peace and happiness. The girl then though back to the fragrance given off by her grandfather. Much like him, it was strong and slightly abrasive, but with time a familiarity the discomfort began to fade into a sense that it was supposed to be there. He smelled strongly of tobacco from the pipe he smoked at night and of sweat, for he worked every day of his life. Tenma had a particular affinity for the scent after a long, hot day working in the sun. His smell almost seemed to hover about the room, encircling one in its presence. As the memories swirled through her mind Tenma began to stroke in rhythm with her thrashing feet. Cool water lapped over her back as the rushing currents below slipped along her shoulders and thighs. Familiarity in the water is what made both swimming and thinking at the same time almost natural for the girl as she pushed her way through the water. The flattened palm of her hand propelled back through the water, forcing her forward, as the second came out of the liquid with a welcome strike of warmth as it hit the heated summer air. Further and further into the width of the water Tenma found herself. That is, she would have found herself if her mind and heart weren’t back in Amegakure. No, she was still fixated on the memories, the blissful existence, of home. Still she could feel the perpetually cool rush of the river near her home in which she had spent numerous days in time. Often she would simply go down to the water’s edge and stand so it licked at the side of her ankles. She would get lost in the gentle swirl or the violent torrent of the clear blue liquid. Many times she had been scolded for standing at the lip of the bank during a storm in which her grandfather had to come in search of her. Eventually they began to predict her absences and would occupy her with remedial tasks at home in order to keep an eye on her. Though, after a bit of time, they began to slip out of the habit and it became easier for her to sneak out of the house. With the shore continuously coming closer to the child’s range she began to focus more on her swimming, not wanting to think of the home she wasn’t even sure she had left. At that thought the child shoved all of the blissful memories that had swarmed her mind into its darkest reaches as so she didn’t retrieve them. Strokes and kicks alternated as her legs began to burn with the excess weight. It was quite the feat, but she was glad she had taken it on. Energy pushed through her as the liquid euphoria continued to pulse, swirl, and rush over her. Swimming Part II DC: 15 Train: 2/3 Formula: 1d20 + 2 Rewards: +2 Strength

Her memories pushed far back in her mind, Tenma had to attempt refocusing herself on the task at hand. As she turned her head to take a breath she was suddenly swept over by a particularly heavy pulsation of water. Water filled her mouth and, in surprise, she allowed her feet to drop, quickly pulling her upright in the water. Violently coughing as the water attempted to filter down into her lungs the child shook her head, splaying strings of hair across her cheek and forehead. It was an unwelcome surprise but it had been just what she needed to hone her concentration back in. With slightly gasping breaths she allowed her head to lean back enough to drag the tips of her hair downstream. Though the water was overall welcome and invigorating the child had never gained an appreciation for the sudden choking and inhalation of the liquid. As her breath began to return Tenma looked around, realizing that she had been drifting slightly along with the current. Though it wasn’t a significant distance it was still further that she would have to swim. Once more she took in deep breaths to fill her lungs and propelled herself forward towards her inevitable goal. Swimming Part II DC: 15 Train: 2/3 Formula: 1d20 + 2 Rewards: +2 Strength

With her strokes once more reaching the steady pulse with her legs Tenma continues pulling her way through the water. Eventually she would be able to do this a thousand times over without having to stop for air or to rest fatigued muscles. However, until she reached that point, she would have to be content with making it over once or twice in a given time. As she reached her rhythmic equilibrium there was a steady pulse in her ears as the waters continued to wash over her. The cool liquid had locked away the memories that had more or less plagued Tenma during her swim as she focused on breathing when the water wouldn’t come crashing over her. The crystal clear waters allowed from viewing down at the bottom of the river and, as the girl neared the shore, she noted the sharp upward slant of the bank. Like the child had done at the beginning of her training it was moving as quickly towards the surface as it could. Confident that she was close enough to the shore not to run into trouble, Tenma suddenly nose-dived to the bottom of the river, allowing the weights to help push her down. Catching herself with her hands she felt as her body continued to sink, ending with her on her stomach. Gently her hands walked her up the embankment and onto dry land. Taking in the warmth and the plentiful oxygen the child rolled onto her bank and laid down, allowing from her knees down to rest in the ever loving water. EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
Takeshi looked upon the great Konoha River with amazement. He looked to the center of the river and saw the rushing current, and wondered if he would be able to make it across the river. He walked down to the bank of the river, and took off his shirt, shoes, shin and forearm guards. He folded up his clothes and set them on a rock next to him, and again stared out into the river. It was a good distance across, with a strong current in the middle, a good test for Takeshi's strength. He waded into the water, until there was a good depth of water in front of him, where he jumped in. The water was very cold, but Takeshi thought of it as bracing. As soon as he got to a depth where his feet could no longer touch the ground, he went from a doggy-paddle to a full breaststroke. Unfortunately, the water was colder than he anticipated, and his muscles began to stiffen. He found it harder and harder to keep afloat, until eventually he began to sink.

EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
Sinking was an entirely knew feeling to Takeshi. As he slipped under the water, looking up at the surface was like looking up at another world. It wasn't like anything he had seen. Everything looked so fluid and glassy. Then Takeshi brought his mind back to the present situation, he was drowning. He hadn't taken a big gulp of air before he slipped under the water, so he didn't have much time to assess the situation. Takeshi's first instinct was to kick. Nothing else. And it didn't matter what direction to kick. Just start kicking. As hard as he could. So Takeshi began to kick as hard as he could, trying in a desperate attempt to make it back to the surface. Sure enough, Takeshi began to rise back up. But then again, he was also running out of air.

EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
A few suspenseful moments after Takeshi sunk underneath the water's surface, he popped back up out of the water, gasping for breath. Takeshi was kicking as hard as he could, but he soon realized that he didn't have to kick that hard to stay afloat, so he eased his kicking pace to save energy. Takeshi took a quick look around to make sure he was in the same place in the river, and that he hadn't floated downstream. A quick look over to his clothes showed that he had floated a few feet downriver, but not so far that he couldn't paddle back over to where he was. Once he was back on track, Takeshi began paddling again, towards the opposing shore. He only made it a few short feet before a fast moving wave passed over his head and he almost breathed in some water.

EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
Since he almost swallowed a whole bunch of water, Takeshi decided against continuing, and instead decided to float in the water for a moment. It would be better if he could catch his breath before he continued, and maybe floating in the water for a moment might give him an idea of the momentum and rhythm of the river so he wouldn't be caught up in another wave when he got back to swimming. Every once in a while he had to paddle upstream back to the path where he would get across the river, because all the time he stayed floating in that river, the river was carrying him even further downstream. When he felt good and rested, Takeshi went back to paddling towards the opposing shore.

After a few moments of floating in the water, Takeshi felt good about continuing his trek across the river. The water pushed him at every point his body touched its surface. But Takeshi pushed right back, propelling himself further towards the other shore. And again a larger wave came up on Takeshi and threatened to push him back underwater, but this time Takeshi was prepared. He swam with the wave and swam right through it. Now he was really going. Takeshi wanted to make up for lost ground, or water as it was, so he paddled as hard as he could to get as far he could. Soon enough, he floated before the middle of the river, the part of the current. There was no point in trying to swim back to where he was, as the river was now pushing him back downstream. Takeshi just had to make it across the current as fast as he could before he was too far downstream to swim back.

EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
Takeshi now faced his greatest challenge of the swimming lesson: crossing the strongest part of the river. The current was so strong here that waiting around was not an option, it would carry you downstream in moment. So decisions here would be split second. But there was no decision to make. It was swim forward or backward, and considering that the later was unacceptable, swimming forward was the only thing to decide on. Takeshi pushed his body to the limits as he kicked as hard as he could to get across the current. Unfortunately, the current proved too strong, and he ended up having to swim against the current instead of out of it. With each breaststroke, he still ended up being pushed downstream, farther from his goal.

EDIT: Swimming training takes place in a past time frame.
Takeshi was helpless against the strong current of the river. Even swimming against the current didn't help much. Try as hard as he might, he was getting carried downstream from his path across the river. And what was worse, was that he had chosen a point in the river where it was shorter across to the other side than other areas of the river. Now he had farther to go to get tot the other side. It was strange to Takeshi looking at the other shore as it slowly got farther and farther away from him. But this also spread the current out, weakening it. As Takeshi swam against the current, he eventually got to a point where he was able to stay at one point instead of being dragged downstream. But now there was another wave that threatened to push him back underneath the water, and it was closing fast. Takeshi had to get out of the middle of the current.
