Cody looked horrified at the thought of that creep, and then quickly recovered. He hopped into the car. "Not all guys are like that," he assured Dari, awkwardly. Not him. At least, not now. He was more interested in getting to know Dari's mind.
"Oh, good," he seemed relieved. "He reminded me of this girls dad. I went with her to this thing, and beforehand they invited me to dinner and he'd ask me questions about what I was planning to do with my life. Like I was going to propose. My mom'd set it up." He shook his head. "Your family seems to really love you, Dari."

"I know," Dari said with a chuckle. He was new to homosexuality, not to humanity! Well, not if you counted development and not years.
"Girl? You're bisexual?" he asked, just curious. So was Luca! Some people said bisexuality didn't exist. Obviously those people were wrong. "No, they're not that bad, they're just protective." He was sure they'd be the same way with women too! Toby would, at least. "They do. We're very close."

"No," he shook his head, "Gay. But I don't think they knew that, then." Hell, he wasn't sure they knew now. "I wouldn't have gone if mom hadn't arranged it."
He smiled at Dari. "It was nice to meet them. Maybe we could all do something sometime."

"Ah, I see," Dari said with a nod and a grin, "Luckily I've never been set up with anyone." Maybe because he didn't have parents and Toby knew better.
"I'm sure they'd like that. We do a lot of stuff all together. Sooner or later you'll be stuck too." Which implied more dates, right? Except if Cody came to family things, everyone would have to be careful what they talked about or revealed. That would probably make it less fun...
Oh well. Here, now, he was with Cody on their way to a hiking date. Right now, everything was going well, so he was happy.
"Are we going to get food to carry up with us? Is there anything at the top?"

Cody didn't seem to mind the idea of being stuck. "Maybe we could all go to the lake this summer," he suggested.
"I packed us some things," He said, pointing towards a cooler in the back. "I didn't know what kind of sandwiches you liked, so there's turkey, blt, and pb&j. Drinks too, we'll need them. Up top is a surprise," he added, beaming at Dari.

"Sure!" Dari nodded, "My brother has a boat. It's great for the warm weather." And finally he could go on shirtless, go on with no worries, sunbathe and feel the air.
"Oh, I'll eat pretty much anything." It was a family trait, apparently. He paused and looked to Cody for a moment. "A surprise, huh? Should I be afraid?"

"Alright, why don't we invite them?" Cody smiled. It'd be nice to spend time with others, anyway. "Do they work for the government too?" he asked.
Oh, good. Dari wasn't picky then. "Maybe," he said, winking at Dari. "But I think you'll like it."

"Sure, when it gets warmer," Dari replied with a chuckle, and then nodded, "You know, actually they do? In different sorts of work, but both of them do, yeah. So if you're secretly a bank robber or a black market organ smuggler I'd probably suggest backing out now." He smiled to Cody. Why was it so easy to tease him already?
"Oh, really? Well then. I guess I'll have to wait and see. How long is the hike one way?"

Cody snapped one of his fingers and feigned dismay. "Shoot! I'm a pirate in my spare time, and I can't be giving up me loot!"
"About an hour, it's not that far," He smiled. "I figured we'd be spending most of our time up there."

It might have been a corny joke, but Dari didn't care. He laughed rather hard in response, having found the sudden stoic change of dialect pretty hilarious.
An hour? That wasn't a bad hike! If they were going to be spending most of their time up top it had to be something interesting... maybe interactive. But at the top of a mountain trail? What?

They parked, and Cody got out, opening the door for Dari. He opened one of the backseat doors and started pulling out stuff. A cooler and a blanket. He opened the cooler and offered him a water bottle.
"Ready?" he asked.

"Thank you," Dari said and nodded. He went for both the cooler and the blanket. He loved his human strength! With so many bones and muscles to support his outer layer he was actually able to carry a wide array of heavy things!

Cody made a sound of protest as Dari went to carry the cooler. He didn't want his date doing the work! He took the blanket though, and with his free hand, took Dari's.

Dari smiled at Cody, making eye contact. He loved to hold hands. It was silly and little but he loved it, and so he accepted it happily and walked with Cody. He was willing to follow this man where ever he wanted to go.
"Is it a marked trail?" he asked finally.

"Kind of," Cody said, and led Dari to the right of the trail. He led the other guy through bushes and patches of long grass, stopping only when he heard a sound. He looked up and laughed. "Look, look," He pointed. A large robin was singing on a branch just over head.
"He likes you, Dari!"
