Elliterate

I don't understand why people take computers to coffee shops anyway. What if you spilled some on the keyboard? It's not like those little tables have a lot of elbow room.

=/

Well, my professor takes his laptop when he's doing research much for the same reason I take my laptop somewhere besides my room and don't do research on my desktop. Too much distracting s**t at home / in my room to actually get work done.

But for most Mac users it's usually just to show off their Mac.

But you know, I'd love working at a Mac store though. The last time I went when I was writing a paper on electronics marketing the guys there must get mad commission. All of the old rich Jews were there and feeding from their hands because they don't know that they won't notice a difference between the processor options and s**t because all they're doing is checking e-mail or using word. God forbid someone like my mom walks into an Apple store, she'd end up with a $3k piece of s**t to decline book club offers.

Yeah, the Mac mouse I was using was one of the ones where it was like some of the new touch pads. Just one single button, no left or right click like most PC s**t.

Oh, and then the whole Apple innovation thing. "Hey guys, here's the iPad. You can surf the internet. Well, you can surf the internet that doesn't use flash! Lol!" or their one laptop they released like a year ago that took out almost every feature somebody could need to make it slimmer..

Apple needs to go under.

Dem's Fightin Wordz.

Anyhow, the iPad is a direct counter to the PC netbook, and the new e-book readers from various companies. I wouldn't say it's a focus of the company; I've always felt that the mobile ipod/iphone/ipad part was a bit separate from the computer part.

As for Flash, have you TRIED installing Flash any time in forever? The software is ******** huge. It's 7+ MB, and not very efficient. It just doesn't fit very well on a mobile device with limited space. Additionally, they'd have to rework their lightweight web browser into something more like a computer web browser, and, again, that's more space. Flash is the only thing that has EVER caused any program on my mac to crash. Ever. Well, with the exception of Steam, but Steam was really crash prone when it first came out.

Have you tried using the internet without flash? You can't even order a ******** gross a** pizza form Pizza Hut with out flash.

But, the funny about the iPad is..I believe HP had a pad with all of the features that Apple claimed they couldn't add.

I'm going to walk into Starbucks and sit amongst the hipsters checking facebook with their $2k macbooks that their parents bought them with one of these.

I've got more money than you bitches.

That thing looks weiiiiiiird.

It looks like a purse. I guess that is what it is going for. Still. No 17 inch screen means no sell for meeee.

I like my screen nice and big for when I'm wrenching people to death in Bioshock x3

@Lolli; I did my research at the library. Better access to online source material and print. Starbucks don't have the whole JSTOR database for free. And if I want to study to some soothing Jazz, I'll just put some on my iphone! (The only apple product I've ever bought x3)

I have access to JSTOR and most other databses off campus. I guess it depends on your school. But yeah, doing research in my room is hard as ********. If it's not me doing something stupid in game or on youtube, I'm playing with my plush dolls or something.

Hum. I don't follow it, really, since I can't get one. But, the iPad has something that HP can't add. A decent touch interface. The way it works on the web, even on something like an iPod Touch is simply amazing.

And yes, I have. On my iTouch. All of Gaia sans towns and games is without flash. Most other sites I frequent are fine without Flash. Youtube is all up on iTouch, and some other sites have apps like Ustream and whatnot. Between those 2, that's almost all I watch via Flash. *shrug*

Just Naota
It's called Linux.

This. You can pretty much bust out Linux and just wait for someone to rewrite any Mac or Windows program to work for said Linux OS.

Sabayon is pretty good.

In any case, Windows or Linux are my preferences, but that's because I put together my own rigs, which means I'm never going to use a Mac machine, because if I recall correctly, you can't get the Mac OS and just slap it on any old rig, can you? You have to have one of their machines.

Where-as, with Windows, I can put together some sort of Frankenstein-like monstrosity of a computer (which I have now) and then just slap Windows on there and get to gaming.

I'm not even sure Mac BUILDS machines that match the specs you can put together on your own. 16 gig RAM, three multi-TB HDDs, dual video cards and triple/quad core processor? Yeah, I prefer custom building my machine and just slapping Windows on there, because I'm never going to do art or music on my computer, ever.

I'm 90% sure you can install it. Should be able to buy it in a store, even. If I make my own comp, I'll likely be installing it first, then using the awesome of bootcamp to install windows. Doing so the other way around would be hella hard.

The best Apple can do is 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB, and a 2TB serial ATA drive.

Did someone say Linux, because this seemed funny?

Tends to be, I can accomplish anything with a Windows OS I can with a Mac OS, and when it comes to Apple-specific machines, I can get the same and better for s**t-tons cheaper.

Any OS-specific features OSX claims to have are easily and flawlessly emulatable by both Windows and Linux. To top it, I don't need to wait (several years!!) to get ports of popular games I play on Windows.

Not saying I particularly give a s**t about the brand war, I just see no advantage that would make me go "hey, want me a Mac huhuhr. biggrin "

I don't get why you would want to emulate windows. I can almost guarantee whatever subtle difference you see in photoshop between Windows and Mac is because you want there to be some kind of difference, you've been told there's supposed to be. I think Photoshop might load maybe a second faster, that's it.

If all you want to do is play games, why not just not make it difficult for yourself, skip OS X, and learn how to properly browse the internet?
