Dari laughed at Maia's expression.
"I am taller than him and stronger than him, and have you ever heard of a federal agent going missing?" He smiled softly to her.
Toby just smiled. "If you need us for whatever reason, just call."
"Of course."

Maia still looked concerned, but did relax a bit. Dari was right, and besides, he was trained to deal with kelpies, werewolves and all sorts of creatures. He could handle a human. She shuffled back to Toby, taking his hand.

Toby kissed Maia on the head again. "Come on. Let's go finish dinner. You're just in time. You can tell us all about it."
Dari smiled and nodded. "Sure."

Cody called Dari at 5:10, feeling almost nervous? Why? The first date had gone so well, the second date was bound to go even better, wasn't it? He was nervous and excited at the same time. What if Dari had changed his mind? What if he hadn't, though? What if Dari was as excited to go as he himself was?

Dari was still in his car when his phone went off and prodded the button on his visor. He'd had a hands-free device installed for emergencies, but he didn't know where the earpiece was. His ears has only been vestigial before after all. Now he felt sound all the way down deep in his head.
"Hello?"
He wasn't sure who it was. He wasn't about to risk picking up the phone.

"Hey Dari!" Somehow, hearing Dari's voice had reassured him. "It's Cody," he added, wondering if Dari had saved his number yet. "Um. So! This weekend. Where do you want me to pick you up?"

Oh! Yay! "Cody! Hi! Sorry, I'm driving. Um. If you pick me up at home, my brother's going to want to meet you. Him and his girlfriend. They gave e the fourth degree last night."

"I'd be glad to meet your brother," Cody said. Sounded like the typical protective older sibling thing he'd heard about. "I'll come a bit early then. What's your address?"

Dari gave his address and then asked, "Are you sure? He's, um. He can be kind of intense." Would Toby give Cody an interrogation as if Dari were a woman? He was a good judge of people, though, so maybe it'd be good?

"I can handle it," Cody assured him, "I work with teens and their parents almost every day. Tell you what, I'll bring breakfast. Donuts sound good?"

"If you're sure," Dari said. "They usually make breakfast themselves, but I don't think you'll want to stick around. Donuts means you're stuck for a while at least."

Dari heard the car pull up. The conversation had ended kind of vaguely. Either Cody was going to be staying for breakfast or a part of it, or they were going to get to just make a break for it. Dari was hoping for the latter.
Toby heard no such thing but watch Dari perk. "He coming?"
"Yes."

Cody was carrying a box of donuts as he walked to the door. He knocked and waited, hoping that Dari's brother and his girlfriend liked chocolate creamfilled donuts. The store hadn't had much variety.

Dari leaped over the arm of the couch with a loud thump to beat Toby to the door. He smiled when he opened it, but oh no. Donuts. He sank just a little.
Toby stood and went up behind him, smiling and giving a little wave.
"Cody! This is my brother Toby, and his girlfriend Maia. Toby, Maia, this is Cody."

Cody gave Dari a bright smile as he opened the door, and then offered him the box of donuts. "I brought breakfast," He said. "Darren says you usually cook?" he looked to Toby, then. He offered his hand. "Nice to meet you," he said, happily. "I'm Cody." Next, he offered Maia his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Cody," Maia said, smiling. He was so polite!
