There was certainly less sound, in front of her that is but not behind or to the side of her.

"There's less in front," she murmured.

"Good," Alassëa smiled. She lowered her staff. "Remember, it is not always what you hear ... but more often, it is what you don't hear. What you have to do is learn how to distinguish exactly where it is that you hear or do not hear something ... learn to gauge the size, shape, hardness and velocity of whatever it is. This is the beginning of you sensing what is around you."

She paused. "I am going to go inside now," she told the two, "and I would like you both to wait a few minutes before following. Do not take off your blindfolds until you find me back again. You may ask directions, but not to be led, no matter how long it takes. Do you have any questions?"

"Where's my staff?" Amalirahc asked immediately. He had dropped it earlier, and had no idea where it was now.

Without hesitating, Alassëa knelt and picked it up for him. "That is the last time I will get it for you," she told him solemnly. "Next time you will have to find it for yourself."

Miyuki gripped her staff tightly, she wouldn't want to lose hers that wouldn't be fun, having to look for it after dropping it. Well, at least she wasn't alone as she thought.

"I don't think I have any questions..."

"Then good luck," Alassëa said, somewhat solemnly. "Remember, no removing your blindfolds, or allowing anyone but me to do so."

Amalirahc sighed. "Right." He paused a moment, then asked, "So how long do we have to wait?"

There was no answer. It seemed Alassëa had already slipped away.

Miyuki tilted her head a bit as if to listen, she knew elves didn't make a sound when they walked, which was kind of annoying because then you couldn't tell if they were in the room or not.

"I think..."

It sounded like there was a bit more noise than before.

"She's gone already."

"That's not fair," Amalirahc frowned, annoyed. "She didn't even tap her staff or anything!"

He tilted his head one way and the other and then looked in the general direction of Miyuki's voice. "Um ... which way is the door?"

"I.... don't remember," Miyuki replied after a moment of thought.

Though she supposed it didn't matter. Alessea generally didn't know where everything was to begin with and they could ask for directions.

"We're also a bit into the maze too...."

Amalirahc exhaled loudly. "Now what?" he frowned, gripping his staff tightly with both hands. He was really not happy with being dumped in the courtyard like that without warning, even less so that Alassëa had vanished on them without letting them know when she was going.

Miyuki paused and tried to listen for the music they heard earlier. The wheels in her head were turning, after all she didn't want to be standing out there all day.

"I think someone is playing music, Alessea said we could ask for directions and I'm sure the person playing isn't in the maze, so we'll use that as our starting point."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 05, 2012 6:48 pm

"You do realize that whoever's playing the music could be all the way in the city," Amalirahc pointed out, not realizing that even Miyuki's hearing was not quite up to par with elves.

He frowned. "Still ... I guess if we get turned around, we can use it to see which way we're facing ... compared to where we started, anyways."

The thought crossed his mind that they could always scream and wait for the guards to rush into the courtyard to see what was happening. But even he knew that that would be cheating.

"I think we had our backs to the door," he decided, turning so that the music was coming from the other side. "Come on."

He took a step and walked straight into a hedge. "Ow!"

Miyuki knew that elven hearing was wide, but still, she was sure whoever was playing music was in the courtyard because she could hear it well (and she was sure while elven hearing was wide it must at least sound faint otherwise it must give them a terrible headache).

She sighed and did recall there was no stipulations against using the staff (for now) to get around. Besides right now she couldn't tell where everything was, even though she knew the music not in the maze and which direction it was coming from. But she couldn't tell the different between music being blocked by a few walls of greenery and say a wall that was much closer to her. That was a level of subtly she simply didn't have.

"Are you alright?"

Carefully, she turned around (since Amalirahc said it was at their back) and swept out the staff to make sure she wasn't going to run into anything or hit Amalirahc since she knew he was close by. Slowly she took a small step forward checking each time, and every once in a while pausing to listen.

It was kind of like going to an eye doctor and being asked of lens one or two was better (not that Miyuki had ever been to an eye doctor before).

"Stupid bush," Amalirahc muttered, swatting it away with his staff. He heard Miyuki moving around, and it sounded like she wasn't hitting anything, so he followed after her, staying behind her.

"How are we supposed to find Alassëa even once we get inside?" he asked Miyuki. "By the time we get in, it will be too long since she went in and no one will remember which way she went."

For that matter, how in the world could she remember her way around the castle so easily, when the rest of the group, who were fully sighted, couldn't figure it out?

Miyuki paused when some of her sweeping told her she had entered through an entrance, but whether or not it was further into the maze or out of the maze she didn't know. She paused for a moment, a bit distracted by Amalirahc's question.

"Well she never did say how far into the castle she was going."

There was a lot Alassea didn't say about the aftermath, like how far into the castle she was going, if she was going to tell someone where she was going, and so on and so forth. Her brain stopped for a moment as she was trying to remember what she was doing, ah yes... she wanted to stop at the entrance way and see if it sounded any different.

Maybe? Kind of?

It was like asking which sweet from the same bunch she liked better she decided it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

"Do you remember how many turns we took into the maze?"

Miyuki was sure that was how Alassea did it, was remembering where she went in the first place. If she were blind that would be an important skill to have.

"Nope," Amalirahc replied sourly. He paused a moment, then reached up with his staff and felt above them. It hit an archway over them, and he grinned. "But the entrance into the maze is the only one where there's hedges even over our heads! That means we're at the outside of it now! The door to inside should be right in front of us!"

He started forward, but he was too hasty and he ran into Miyuki - not hard, just a bump.

"Sorry," he apologized, his face growing warm. "Didn't mean to hit you."

Miyuki took a step or two forward, she knew he didn't mean it. Amalirahc never means to do anything bad anyways.

"It's alright,"
Miyuki replied as she reached behind her for Amalirahc's hand, "Let's stay side by side, we only need to check to make sure there is no one in front of us."
