... and the paper went up in a flash, consumed by a ball of flaming lava as large as Johns fist!
Sam let out a yelp of surprise before four runes flashed into being around the tiny sun forming a pyramid of violet light, keeping it from dripping lava all over her bedroom floor...as well as canceling out the intense light and heat that had been radiating off John's spell.
Panting the girl closed her eyes and wiped sweat off her forehead, for a moment there she was in serious danger of getting a sun burn... "Alright... now this is a good example of how you have to be really specific in your thoughts when you are trying to use a single word! The more words or runes you use the more specific a result you will get..along with how much power you put into it..." sweatdrop

Samantha~Munin~ ... and the paper went up in a flash, consumed by a ball of flaming lava as large as Johns fist! " Alright... now this is a good example of how you have to be really specific in your thoughts when you are trying to use a single word! The more words or runes you use the more specific a result you will get..along with how much power you put into it..." sweatdrop John yelled out in surprise, dropping the lava ball almost as soon as it eats up the paper - only to see a purple prism surround it, leaving it floating in the air - a tiny sun, created by his own hands. He looked at it with wide eyes, before looking down at his metallic hand - his fingers and palms were smoking, the metal red hot and sizzling - if it had been his other hand that had been holding the paper, he would have lost his fingers. He'd definately gotten his beard singed - the room now smelt a little of burnt hair. "All that power, just from one rune...." He muttered quietly before looking to her. "...How specific must I be? The runes you've shown me - they were all the same thing, but they were generic as well..."

"Here is where you get into Rune Staves... lines of runes that make magic much more specific... they have a start, and an end!" Sam took the prism by the top run as if it was a handle... she would figure out how to get rid of it later... for the moment it made a spectacular little lamp.
"When you have trouble picturing what you want you can put runes together to put limitations on a spell, how far you want it to range, how much power it can take from the source, when the spell will activate and when it will end!" With her free hand the girl drew several runes that hung in the air in a glittering violet light, they were all separate at first, but then she touched one and pushed it against another like she was shifting magnets on the fridge until with a last little touch they all slid together in a little circle and a light breeze fluttered through the room, rustling pages and sweeping the burnt hair smell and the little bits of ashes out of the room, the rune dissapearing as the breeze left!
"I actually remember Hono'o mentioning a set of Staves that could be tattooed onto the body and with just painting on the final rune the spell would activate.. a sort of emergency kit that you take with you everywhere, not sure how it worked out but it was a very good idea."

"Mmmm, that does sound like a good idea..." He wondered if there was any type of rune that would allow him to teleport, or generate a smoke cloud, something to that effect. Perhaps something to generate food and water from nothing if he is stuck without rations.
Best to stick with simple things but. Trying to recall the runes she'd shown him, John lifted his hand to start drawing them in the air - but when he trailed his finger, nothing came out like hers did. He tried again, trying a single rune this time, trying to think of the firefly again - but again, nothing. "...Why isn't it working?" He asked, confused, as he looked at his hand. Was he doing something wrong? He looked at his finger, and the little point of blood coagulating on it, and he looked back up to Munin. "Hey...you drew those runes without having to make a blood sacrifice. How did you do that?"

Sam grinned as he caught her. "Glad you noticed! Now there are plenty of power sources... essentially everything generates power or energy in one form or another! Most beings have to rely on their internal power for everything, that is why they eat food, to renew the energy that they expend on a daily basis. Some beings have learned to use the power of other beings... Hono'o for instance, although she is likely the nicest that you would get on that side of the equation!"
The girl set her nifty new lamp on the bedside table as she looked for just the right words. "Then there are those who have learned to use the energy of every THING around them... this last sort of energy has a lot of different names, ley lines, mana... that sort of stuff! I can tap into the lines of energy that flow between things, ley lines. I use that energy instead of a blood sacrifice to fuel my own workings... and unlike a spell set with a simple blood sacrifice, I could create a magic that would live on past my own demise, powered by gaia herself!"
"Now... we need to figure out if you can learn to see and use the ley lines, just remember that if you happen to be in a place where there are no ley lines or nodes.. a place where the energy can pool for a time.. that you will only have the power within yourself already to call upon!" She got up and went over to a bookshelf where she pulled out a polished wooden box before coming back to her place on the bed and flipping the box open to reveal a large collection of polished stones all in the shapes of animals.
She was taking a page for Hono's book here, when Rae had introduced Maxi to focus stones... perhaps it would work with John as well!

He smiled, proud at himself that he finally managed to get something right. His smile faded when she talked about internal power, lifting his hand to watch the static criss-cross over his fingers. "Surely my own electrical power would be enough? Its not like i run out often, and its easily recharged....Just gotta run around in a circle for a minute or two, in some cases..." He muttered to himself. "...But i do like the sound of magic lasting for a long time..."
He watched her move to the box, and immediantly set his eyes back to the bed. They had been so seriously discussing the magics, that he'd forgotten he was technically talking to a teenager - a teenager who definately took after her mother in the looks department. Ashamed at his rampart thoughts, he suddenly realised that it wasn't pride that held his longing gaze, but....adoration, maybe? For showing him such magics with no request for payment or boon.
Not that the girl needed to....John would kill for her, simply because of who she was and who her mother was...but it was nice that she hadn't so far.
His thoughts went back to the doctors at the hospital where they had removed the bullet from his brain, and the blond woman whom he had debt with...the thought troubled his soul...
He blinked when Munin sat back down before him, opening the box to reveal the little stone animals. It was a bizarre sight to see, a teenager with a box of little stone creatures, and he reached out to pick one up that looked like a bull, waving it in front of her nose. "Moo." He said with a grin.

The girl could not help the spontaneous laugh that escaped her as he played with the little cow figurine, it was just so absurd.. it truly was amusing!
"Alright see, the difference between electricity and mana is that the electricity has already been purposed... otherwise the energy within you, before you turn it into electricity is your internal energy! So yes, you could use what is within you.. just as I can, and eventually we think even my baby brother will, but even you run dry when you try to use your powers too often!" She picked up a green jade cat, setting the box on her lap as she absently stroked the little cat's head.
"But you still need to learn how to funnel all that potential energy within you into a rune instead of electricity!"

John nodded slowly, watching her stroke the little green cat, once more revealing the teenager she physcially was. "So....how do i do that?" He asked, lifting the bull-figure. "With animal totems?"He had no idea where his electrical power came from....whether it was from his brain, where the nerve system lived, or whether it came from his torso, where the static seemed to originate from....all he knew was, like controlling your breathing, it was a natural thing that just happened, and if he focused he could control it. Internal energy....his 'chi' perhaps.

Sam chuckled again and held the cat out on her palm. "The animals are not the important part.. the stones are!"
The cat started to glow, an eary green light, but it never got all that bright... "If we can find a kind of stone that works with you.. that harmonizes with your power, it might help you see the power in the world itself."

It had no reaction, but then, he didn't know what type of reaction he was looking for - perhaps a glow, like Sam's little cat? He reached into the box and began to sift through it's contents, pulling out the little stone totems one by one, grasping one in his right hand and feeling the smooth rock between his palm and fingers, looking at it in concentration...but nothing. He'd gone through about five animals before he shook his head in exasperation, holding onto what appeared to be a leopard and rubbing it between his fingers, like that was going to activate his power. "...I dont know if this is going to work..." He muttered dejectedly, placing the leopard on the small pile growing on the bed beside Munin before reaching in for another one.

"Perhaps I am going about this wrong..." With a sigh she put the box on the bed and moved to put both her hands on the sides of his face.
"I'm not much of a healer, never was... only had a touch of ability, likely just from Odin likely to know a little about all sorts of things. So this might hurt.. just a warning!" sweatdrop With a shrugs as if to say sorry in advance, Munin tugged at John's ocular nerves, shifting his sight from the ordinary to something much more extraordinary!
The world would be set out in light, different colors of light, lines moving through the girl in glittering flows, and everything else in the room glowing with dull colors.. unless he looked at himself, then he would see an almost blinding set of flowing lights!

He was looking at what appeared to be a penguin and hoping to Valhalla itself that this wasn't his animal, when she reached out to touch his face, his eyes swivelling up to look at her. "What are you doing, chi - AHH!"There was a searing pain in his eyes, and he knocked her hands away quickly to stop her from getting a belt of electricity, static washing off him as he rolled away from her, his eyes shut tightly as he put his right hand over them. "Odin's beard girl, you can't just do things like that without...!"He opened his eyes, squinting, as his anger melted away to be replaced by wonder. "...What...what did you do?" He breathed, looking about him as if seeing for the first time. Lines of all different colors trailed through the air, like little trails of mutli-colored smoke which flowed like water in an invisible river, some traveling around and through Munin herself, others leading through walls and the door without seeming to care about the solid objects in their paths. He looked down at his right hand - and had to pull it away, squinting at the glare. "Aht!" He cried as he was dazzled by his own light, blocking his view with his steel hand, which interestingly barely gave off any light at all. "What is this?"

"This is you and me... the real us.. not the flesh and blood that makes us mortal. It is temporary unless you find your own way to see like this... like, I said, I'm not much of a healer." Now she moved back to the box, and held it out to him. "Look for one that resonates to you... one that you think the power would easily move through!"

He asked bluntly, reaching out with his steel hand to grasp one of the animals, not wanting to be blinded by his aura again. The little bird wasn't his... This power was interesting. He wondered if this was what Maximos' Spirit Eye was like...these had been a time when John had been able to see the electrical signals wafting through the air, radio waves and the such, but that was no longer the case... He grabbed another animal, this one appearing to be a horse, and as he lifted it he had to squint - it glistened like a diamond, little sparks of power seeming to be eminating from it. He cocked an eyebrow at the little at the horse - it had eight legs. What the hell? ...Sleipnir?" He asked, breathing the name as if it was forigen, even though he knew who Sleipnir was...

Tomorrow "Why is mine brighter then yours?" He asked bluntly, reaching out with his steel hand to grasp one of the animals, not wanting to be blinded by his aura again. The little bird wasn't his... " Because I was never what you were... despite how many people and legends get it wrong." She shrugged and smiled to herself. Tomorrow He grabbed another animal, this one appearing to be a horse, and as he lifted it he had to squint - it glistened like a diamond, little sparks of power seeming to be emanating from it. He cocked an eyebrow at the little at the horse - it had eight legs. What the hell? ...Sleipnir?" He asked, breathing the name as if it was foreign, even though he knew who Sleipnir was... " Ah, found a new friend?" With a grin she turned to put the rest of the stones back in the back in the box. The horse was Black Volcanic Glass, the razor sharp edges carefully polished down to perfect curves... it was fragile as all hell, and the thought of him dropping it had her sweating slightly, but if it was his focus it was a good thing, but it was easy to get ahold of!
