See that little button that says "Online Friends" (it has an icon of two people). It's at the bottom of the screen, right next to the mail and chat buttons and directly opposition from the "quick links" thing.
If you click on it, it shows you who is online. It also says "Join In Guilds!" or "Join Reading My E-Mail" or something like that. If you click on it, it will link you to the page they are on. You can't see like private things (or things you can't normally see without being on their account) but it lets you like join them in a thread or something.
