( I wasn't exactly sure what you wanted, but alright. I'd rather he get formerly accused and discovered about his issues with Bolba the Hutt, but oh well. I'd prefer it if someone else NPC-ed his death, since I have something to gain from it.)

Kara couldn't tell if the wookiee was growling or actually trying to speak.
It all sounded the same.
Lund, however, blasted at the wook's head with a stun beam.
"Smarter than you." He said calmly as he aimed for another shot.
"Get down!" Colsan shouted from further back in the alley as a screaming warhead lit the sky with a reddish gold tail, like a comet.
The Squad hit the deck as the proton torpedo howled overhead, streaking for Hildegard and his snipers.

With a flash of blue-white light the proton torpedo detonated, it's warhead hurling energy in all directions. Within ten meters of the missile everything was incinerated, blood, flesh, bone, even the ceramic armor of the troopers was turned instantly into it's component elements and vaporized.

The resulting shock wave killed everything in thirty meters, and brought down the two structures next to the impact point. As it spread out it picked up pieces of debris and hurled em like giant slugs in every direction. The blast wave ripped over the imperial troops, tearing at their clothes like a sudden blast of wind, and then it was over.

Captain Hildegard was dead, vaporized, with only enough remains it fill a thimble. All around him were the decorated members of the Recon Company, some suffering the same fate as their commander, others shockingly unburned... killed by the concussion of the blast wave.

In the Hoverscout Colonel Akaga felt the vehicle buck from the shockwave as he turned on the comm, "Beta Three! Why did you fire? I repeat, why did you fire? We didn't request that strike!"

In his cockpit, the pilot of the ARC-170 blinked, "Sir? I've got a request right here... and coordinates."

"Send me those Coordinates, your torpedo just landed on top of an ad-hoc formation of Imperial Army!" Akaga answered as he turned to the displays. There on the screen the request and coordinates appeared.

The Colonel's eye's widened as he turned to "Twitch", "Did you send this transmission?" He drew his DL-44 and pointed it at the zabrack, "Because if you did..."

While events unfolded in New Karna for the worse for the Recon Team, the majority of that team in Port Loka remained unawares of the details that had gone on.

It was confirmed that the ceremony had come under attack, resulting in the death of the Govenor and the remainder of CompForce. The rebels had escaped alive, and pursuit began immediately through New Karna.

The rest came only as static yells ino the main transmission receiver, the only piece of equipment they had that had a direct link to command, Agaka, and his personal transport.

Otherwise, there was little to no news.

As the two rebels rode away from town, even several miles out Charr could catch the flash.
He wheeled his mount about as he saw the smoke cloud go up, saw the fighter wheeling about in the sky, and he cursed.
The Imps had bombed something.
That was not good.
"C'mon Lenny. We need to put space between us and town. Now."

< You better not have had anything to do with that. > Bolba angrily barked at one of his men manning the terminal. " It wasn't any of us, Lord Bolba. We're just keeping contact with the agents as per your orders. "

They had just seen the feed coming from one of the agents who happened to be a safe enough distance away but also managed to catch the explosion and the demise of the Imperial group the warhead hit.

< Let's hope they don't think we did it either. I don't need to be losing potential business partners. > the Hutt said, the anger in his tone still present.

Twitch shook at the sight of the barrel leveled at him, "I didn't sir! It's possible someone has tapped into our communications and sent that set of coordinates."

Saburo looked at the visibly shaken Zabrack, "That would explain the torpedo going off as an airburst as well, wouldn't it?" Slowly the Colonel lowered the pistol, "Switch the encrypt and inform the ARCs they are to respond only to voice communicated coordinates. Also, cut the datalink and tell them to return to base."

"Yes sir," The Zabrack answered, still quivering with fright.

With that done the Colonel sighed, "Lieutenant Aryss, secure and load up the prisoners... We'll transfer them to an imperial convoy heading for Port Loka. There's an old prison there that should work as a holding center for these... insurgents."

Twitch turned back to the Colonel, "We've got a priority three transmission from Colonel Adder..."

"Put it through," The Colonel answered quietly.

"Colonel, we're getting reports of widespread... well I guess you'd call them celebrations in Port Loka, Dolimas, Quon and Seya Cities. It looks like the holographic image of the Governor buying it has had some unfortunate implications."

The Colonel frowned, "Inform the garrisons at each location that they are to put down these demonstrations and demonstrate to them that the Empire is in full control of the situation. Also, inform Benton Ford that he is to take temporary command until a replacement for the Captain has been found."

"Yes sir," the Lieutenant Colonel answered.

The Colonel slumped in a chair as the NSM Team and their prisoners were loaded onboard. With that done the vehicle turned and rumbled off into the night.

"Yeah..." Lenler said, blinking in an attempt to readjust his vision. "I hope everybody's all right, though." He paused to think for a moment, and decided not to say what was on his mind. I just hope as few of us are dead as possible...
He coughed a couple of times, and continued to concentrate on his riding. "Well..." He mumbled in a voice audible only to himself. "Mission accomplished."

While Ford spent the rest of his evening sending his enovys to Hildegard about what had happened earlier, the lieutenant was struck by some rather... well, grim news.

Hildegard wouldn't be receiving his message. Ever.

This he learned, as he finished his conversation with Lt. Colonel Adder, as she explained all that had befallen since the Govenor's assasination. "Yes.... I understand, Colonel... Yes ma'am (/sir)... I'll inform the rest."

Dismissed from the holoproj in their base, he walked outside, where his men were organized. He found his sargeant preparing to dispatch a speeder into the swamp. "Sir?"

"Bad news," Ford answered. "Hildegard and his men were killed in the aftermath of the ceremony."

The enlisted audibly cursed. "Damn! He had some of our best men with him!"

The lieutenant nodded. "Tragically. They were chasing down rebels when an ARC misfired and ended up dropping a plasma missle on top of them."

The 2nd-in-command flinched. "Well, I can imagine there won't be any open caskets at his funeral; if there is one."

"I agree. Adder also told me that I'm in charge until a proper leader can be chosen." There was a hint of hope in his voice, but not enough to give away anything. It was common knowledge that he was by far a more competant man than Hildegard had ever been. It was expected that he'd get promoted soon. "In the meantime, how goes our search?"

"Rather poorly. We've found no more thugs, and a curfew is being put into place as we speak."

"For what?"

At this the sargeant smiled. Albeit, a forced one. "It seems the locals were all too happy to see the govenor dead. They've made no pretense in their pleasure. So, the Captain inside the city decided to crack down."

Ford nodded. "I can understand. Order must be maintained..."

"Are you familiar with the term 'Pyrrhic Victory?'" Charr asked.
The term seemed applicable.
The govenor and his Compnor cronies were wiped from the planet, but the cost was certainly dire, especially when an air strike was called in.

And how would the people of the planet even react to an outright assasination? To the predominantly human populace, such an act would normally be ill favored to say the least.

Already Charr was plotting his next moves.
The Imps would not sit idle after a stunt like this. It would be foolish to think he could take a beather.
It was time to recruit, rearm, and reorganize; the sooner the better.

(Well, I'll try and end the chapter despite my lack of a personal machine)

As the Chariot rumbled toward the headquarters Colonel Akaga thought about what to do in the wake of the attack.

The imperial sector authority would probably hand over political control to the military in the wake of this debacle, and withdraw compforce. This meant that all imperial authority on the planet would be given over to himself. He'd have to manage both the planet's civilian needs and military necessity. That would require a decleration of martial law.

The local police would have to be sifted through, those loyal to their jobs would continue to work as keepers of the peace. Those loyal to the old regime would be removed.

Moreover, the troops would need reinforcements if they were expected to keep the peace on this world. He doubted command would send him another battalion or two of army troops, so he'd have to create his own... Recruit a militia on this rock and equip it to keep the peace when things got out of police control.

If he was to win the hearts and minds of the local population then he'd have to show them real benefits for the empire's presence. Eliminating the local hutt and his crime ring would be one way to further those aims. Secondly, he'd have to give the populace something to do. Already he began to think about possible work projects. Perhaps he should give his supply officer's plans of constructing a train net a second look.

Chapter 4
Huttfall

TWO WEEKS SINCE PRIOR CHAPTER...
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2007 2:34 pm

It had been two weeks of frenzied activity for the Imperial Forces on the planet. As anticipated, the Sector Moff had decided that the situation on the world was two unstable for the installation of another Planetary Governor, instead the planet had been declared to be under Imperial martial law, and Colonel Saburo Akaga had been given political authority over the whole of the planet because of his position as the senior imperial military officer on the planet.

Colonel Akaga had been swift to make changes, even before the Governor was buried, he'd instituted a purge of the Seya-Quon Police Forces, removing those that demonstrated a lack of loyalty to the new regime, and placing those that swore their Loyalty to the Emperor into the newly formed Seya-Quon Public Security Force.

Additionally he'd ordered the creation of a planetary militia, provisionally entitled the Seya-Quon Home Guard, and already the first batch of recruits were being taken to an old PDF training facility to begin their indoctrination and basic training. It would be at least two months before the first company of militiamen would be ready for active service, but Akaga was confident in the regiment's capacity to keep the planet relatively secure for those six to eight weeks. Beyond that he wasn't sure of anything.

The troops had rounded up some two-hundred protesters and political prisoners in the immediate aftermath of the attack. To house them, part of the planet's primary prison, some thirty kilometers outside of Port Loka, had been turned into an imperial detention center. While the Political Prisoners were treated relatively humanely, there was one section of the prison that had been reserved for the insurgents that had been captured. Here they were interrogated, denied sleep, and placed under constant watch by a platoon from the Reconnaissance Company.

As the Colonel walked down the barren gray walls of the complex he was briefed in on what had been learned in the recent days by the Lieutenant in charge.

"We've been able to confirm that the leader of the resistance is Charr Nbarr, as well as the existence of at least two other cells from the prisoners. Unfortunately, none of them know anything of the hacker responsible for the ARC strike."

Colonel Akaga nodded, "We did succeed in getting a ping off of the Hacker's computer shortly after the severing of our connection with the ARCs. It indicates that the hacker was somewhere in Port Loka."

"We've gained very little from the prisoners, and the Wookiee has been particularly difficult to pull information from. It's hard to interrogate a creature that doesn't speak Basic."

"You'll find ways Lieutenant," Colonel Akaga responded coldly. He knew that information would be the most valuable commodity for the suppression of the resistance, "I'd like to speak to Lieutenant Ford."

"Yes sir," The junior officer answered swiftly.

A second officer, one of the Colonel's staff, appeared, "Sir, we've just received word from the Hospital in New Karna. Jula Isan is awake."

"The Governor's surviving Bodyguard..." The Colonel said calmly, "Is there anything else?"

The officer nodded, "The report indicates that she has some information for you regarding Bolba the Hutt."

Hearing that a smile slid across his face, "Inform Lieutenant Aryss that we've finally got a lead on the Hutt."

The call came in fairly early in the morning. Ford hadn't slept as late as 6:00 in several weeks, but he was still glad for the well needed rest.

Ever since the death of the Govenor, CompForce, and Captain Hildegard, Ford's duties had literally doubled in the last few fortnights. He attended daily raids, cracking down on rebellios citizens, and being involved in more than his fair share of gun fights. True, things were quiet now, but in the aftermath in which a chunk of command had been killed, Ford had done more cleaning up than he had to.

Which was why he wasn't suprised when he heard that Agaka was in the area and wanted to meet with him. Dressing quickly and donning his armor and helm, he grabbed his weapons, and made his way out to the gravtruck that would take him to the Seya-Qu Prison, just outside of town.

He'd be there within the hour.
