Letalus had been around the block a few times when it came to the supernatural. After all, it wasn't every day a magical construct imbued with a soul and forced to do a master's bidding by arcane bonds walked around pretending to be human. In his some 300 years, he had faced mermaids, gargoyles, witches, more fairies than he'd care to remember, the undead and the hyperliving. Ghosts, while rare, were not unknown to him.

Still, he had to stop and blink a few times as his sword strike was blocked by a shimmering man who appeared out of nowhere. Whatever the newcomer was, he was simply an obstacle to a very problematic woman. He swiftly jerked his head to the side, cracking his neck and gripped his sword tighter. "Try and stop me," he growled quietly as he lunged forward, thrusting with the sword with every intention of making ghost kibabs.

Pondering Merro's questions, Leana stood and thought for a moment.

Where had she been going? Well...nowhere in particular. She wandered, after all, just looking around to make a living. Besides, she was slightly wanted in some areas, absolutely unable to return to the place she was raised, nor her parents' old house.

Supplies...as a matter of fact she was in a bit of need of them at the moment. At this point she remembered that she had only enough rations left for one more meal, and would definitely need more. She was also definite on going to that pawn shop...she needed to hock the jewelery she'd stolen back in the other city...along with a few other odd knick knacks.

"Well..." she started. "I just remembered I've got stuff to buy too...and um...since I'd be showing you around, I figured we'd still be in a group..."

Leana smiled nervously. She had no idea how to explain it. She'd assumed that since they'd been through...what seemed like so much already...she was traveling with these people. But it occurred to her that she'd just met Merro, Letalus and the others earlier in the evening. Being swept away on a horse, getting attacked by Letalus, stealing chickens, fighting the bandit werewolf, and stopping Merro from running insane around town had probably gotten her to thinking that she was considered part of this group.

Perhaps Merro was just inquiring for curiosity purposes...at least, Leana hoped. She'd felt a bit...useful...somewhat...being with these people, since she'd spent quite a majority of her life alone.

The girl seemed odder the more time Merro spent with her, but that sort of thing had historically charmed the noblewoman, who was rather an oddity herself. She found the stranger an interesting mixture of clumsy and adept, experienced but young, knowledgeable but with a yielding nature. And now she appeared to Merro both bold as a brass cat and possessed of the shy and eager-to-please nature of a pup.

Merro thought as quickly as her overtaxed brain would allow. She didn't want it known that Letalus was her captor rather than her escort, and if she acquiesced to the girl's bold assumption that they were all of a party now, their little hierarchy would become all too apparent if her decision were to be brusquely overthrown. However, Letalus had shown himself more than willing to accept the girl's services as a guide earlier in the day even though it became apparent that he'd known the way to Parnell well enough already. In fact he'd accepted Leana as a suitable companion more quickly than Merro herself had. And he didn't treat Merro overmuch like a prisoner...perhaps he'd still allow her some room in which to act their relative stations rather than their actual positions.

Thinking of those moments in which he'd shown concern for her person and seemed to treat her still as his Lady instead of his prisoner brought back some dangerous sensations. Merro shook them off quickly and came to a decision.

"I thank you for your renewed offer to serve as our guide," she replied, nodding politely. Leana didn't exactly rate a curtsey by either blood or place. "I will inform Letalus in the morning."

Saints, and Sentelle. Merro wondered suddenly what the noblewoman's intentions were.

By the Goddess's grace, that sharp warmness would not leave Nova in peace. Not only was it aggravating her to the point of insomnia, but now it was sending, oddly enough, chills up her spine, raising the hair on her neck. Never had she felt something that would keep her from her slumber.

Again she rose her head, surveying the room and taking a moment to ponder over this odd sensation. She rose to her feet and trotted over to the edge of the bed where Merro and Leana were closest to. She was visibly ruffled with her fur standing on end all the way to the tip of her tail, one could presume she had rolled in a bed of static to cause this effect.

"Something vexes me lasses...something is not right near us." She glanced around again and wondered where the woman with the holy aura was, she had not seen her since the battle in the street. "Does the woman with the glow reside in this room; has she been doing alright from earlier?" The only other time she remembers feeling this warm sensation was when she was near her, but that was comforting, not unsettling like this.

Leana's smile widened. "I'm glad to be of service, Miss Merro." she said. It then occurred to her...she didn't really know Merro's proper title, or what to call he by. But she felt odd not knowing because then she couldn't call her by her title.

Even though from what she'd seen, Merro so far had appeared to Leana nothing like what she truly was. Leana had much to learn about Merro, and the others she travelled with. Of course, she'd been hiding herself as well...being mostly a thief, she'd rather they didn't know right away.

Then she noticed Nova, who'd gotten up and spoke. The little creature's fur was on end. From Leana's experience with animals, she knew something was wrong.

"I saw her in the hallway outside the door. Why, is something wrong?"

"Fool." Avery replied apathetically, as he gracefully sidestepped Letalus' thrust. His left hand clenched into a fist and his pointed ears gave a slight twitch.

In a blur of blades Avery's advances forced Letalus' retreat. Adeptly outmaneuvering the golem Avery had turned them about as they approached the doorway. Avery allowed a change of engagement and offered an invitation.

It was difficult enough for Letalus to keep up with Avery, much less advance. Every strike he attempted was blocked and parried, and for all his strength, speed was the deciding factor in this battle. So when he saw an apparent opening, he only too happily took it. Believing the advantage was finally his, he pressed forward, striking with his full weight behind him...

Having set Letalus up Avery deftly sidestepped the attack allowing the weight of Letalus' swing to carry him out into the hall.

Avery promptly slammed the door shut and locked it.

Losing balance, Letalus fell to his knee in the hallway, but with a warrior's honed reflexes, he immediately turned and attacked once more, his sword slashing...

...only to stop short of the heavy wooden door. He lowered his blade, frowning, and with his other fist, pounded loudly and rhythmically on the door. He was prepared to stand there all night or at least until his fist finally broke the wood, but the irate innkeeper appeared almost immediately and scolded him for the racket.

"Sir, I have been QUITE patient with you and your group, but if you do not CEASE this unholy NOISE, I promise I will kick you out so fast your heads will SPIN!" He turned on his heel and walked back down the hall, leaving Letalus to briefly consider the pros and cons of murdering everyone in the building and dragging Merro to Kisan then and there.

He sighed quietly, unconcerned by the curious wide-eyes of other guests and turned to walk to Merro's room. Killing the innkeeper and continuing this fight with whatever the shimmering elf man was seemed more trouble than it was worth. Compliance seemed the best course of action now that his temper had cooled and he was back to himself. It was a concern that the cursed blade with beyond his reach, but if it was safe anywhere, it was safe with the holy woman.

Letalus' eyes narrowed as his chest burned in recollection of her nearness.

So it was with a still-bare chest, a drawn sword and a dark expression that he came unannounced into Merro's room and promptly sat himself down in a chair.

Tomlin scratched his head. Why was there so much racket going on outside the rooms?

Grabbing the gloves he had procured earlier in the day, his rapier, and his hat, he clothed himself in a manner that allowed to at least travel in decency.

Blowing out the only light source to the room, Tomlin crept out of his room in silence. Securing his room as he came out, he noted that Letalus had jumped into another room across the hall.

"Perhaps I'll get some ale...." he said, moving now towards the stairwell and downstairs.

Nova's attention was then jerked to the door as loud noises were heard from slightly down the hall. She focused her eyes on the wood panels and waited. While she sat and intently watched, the door flung open as Letalus barged in moments later, she hissed and hopped backwards, startled by the intrusion. Sadly, Nova's depth perception was greatly off center by her panic and she soon threw herself off the other end of the bed with her movements, landing with a *thud* on the floor. "...Hmm, that was...unexpected..." her embarrassed voice was heard, muffled from her position on the floor.

She glanced over to the ferret and frowned at the creature's unease. Saints have mercy; was there to be no end to trouble this night? If this was a prelude to another battle or bloodshedding Merro was going to try and kill everyone just so she could finally get some sleep.

Unreasonably peeved by her too-restless thoughts and unanswered questions and fatigue, Merro hardly heard Leana's response and opened her mouth, feeling an answer coming out that would probably have been more snappish than Nova deserved, but then the noise seeping through from the hallway gave her pause. She mimicked the animal's sudden fixation with the door, her frown deepening as she realized that Letalus had both his sword and hers. Leana was not exactly defenseless, but what was Merro to do if Something Bad crashed into the room?

She glanced at the chamberpot.

Something bad walked in all of a sudden, but Merro stayed where she was, and so did her frown. This man...all in a moment she was right back to her usual fiery self. Had he no manners at all? She could have still been at her bath, for the love of all things holy! She needed to inform him that Leana would be their guide, she wanted to know what pack of demons had possessed him, and she was going to find out how in all hells he'd gotten to Parnell first and Merro would be cursed if she'd wait another instant to do it. Letting her thoughts muddle up her mind was getting her nowhere. She'd spit them all out and let the consequences fall where they would.

She'd just flat-out had it with all this...this...whatever it was!

"Leave us," she commanded to the two other females in the room, realizing in the back of her mind that her manner was more suitable to that of a Lady ordering her handmaids out of her boudoir rather than that of an unknown young woman requesting that her guests do her the favor of granting her a private audience with her companion. She was too angry and too frustrated and too Merro for any apology, however. She might feel badly over her curt manner in the morning, but that was another day.

ooc: I deeply apologize for my character being such a hoity-toity beech. x_x

Leana ran over once she saw Nova fall off the bed, to make sure she was alright. She always tried to help an animal when she noticed it was either in pain or frightened.

Then after hearing all that commotion, she turned when she heard Letalus storm in and sit himself down. How rude for a male to just barge into a female's room, and the look on Merro's face showed she probably felt the same way.

She stood up when Merro asked her to leave. Leana didn't want to, but she knew that there were private matters that she probably shouldn't hear. She nodded towards Nova and then quietly left the two of them, pondering getting her own room if there were any left.

As Letalus pounded on the door Avery set a holy barrier in place. For all it mattered Letalus could pound the door in, yet entrance to this room would be barred. When Sentelle woke in the morning he would have to leave and the barrier would dissipate, but for this night he would insure her safety and secure her a good night's rest.

As Avery lifted Sentelle gently off the ground it saddened him to think that while he could touch her she would never feel him, no matter how firm or delicate his touch. He thought over the years he'd spent, in life, teaching her to react to his lightest touch, but that was then. Now she would never react to his touch again; those were the terms of his being allowed to guard her.

He laid her gently down on the bed and softly tucked her under the covers. He took comfort in his ability to keep her safe. To carry her though the times when, he feared, she felt most alone. He sat on the bed next to her and brushed her hair from her face before bending over and softly kissing her on the cheek. Part of him yearned for the next time she would need him. Part of him wished for her to be able to move on in life and leave him behind.

He rose from the bed and looked about the room. A silver sword caught his attention...

As Leana jumped to Nova's aid, she could notice that the little creature looked more miffed than hurt. Her upper body and head flat to the wood with her arms splayed out in front of her. Her hind quarters were flipped over and resting on her head, her tail flopped over her nose. Her eyes were narrowed as she was now more irate that her slumber had been vexed by something she no longer felt the presence of after Letalus barged in. The short time she has spent with these people has given her more action than she had seen in years, and she was personally exhausted; how rare was that for her, of all beings?

Nova rolled over to her side and resituated herself so she was back on her feet. As she heard Merro's demand, she didn't blame her for being in her fowl mood. She was in one herself and hoped the time she spent with this inconsiderate man would benefit them both; at least Merro could let some well needed stress out before a hopeful sleeping phase soon after.

She yawned and started to climb up Leana's leg, being too tired to really care if the woman was bothered by her persistence to perch herself on her shoulder. Perhaps she would now be able to drift to sleep again.
