Bia knew some by name- others by the reputation of their files, and a precious few, she had even met. One of the members of this small and less-than-illustrious 'club' was standing at the drinks table, speaking to someone whose back was to the ex-lab worker. The mass of spines that came from the person's back did face Bia, however- and they told to who it was. There was only one hedgehog on the island, let alone any other 'manimal' with such spines- and besides, Emelyn White had been in that first wave to arrive at the island- only in that first month or so that Bia herself had come. But it was neither this 'familiar' file figure- nor Thom, who she had met and summarily abandoned during his fit (a thought which was mostly forgotten in Bia's currently self-possessed mind) that the woman gravitated towards... but rather, the drinks table.

"Myssstery's def'nitely their thing. I've met 'em b'fore. Well... Moreau, Lockheart... 'n Sssabin." His voice got louder and more boistrous, trying to make up for his loss of hearing. "First two're c'mpletely insssane. C'mpletely! Almost killed mer fer hurting th'lady doctor. Wasn' my fault... You believe me, don't you? I didn' mean to!"
Almost at once his frill flared and wings spread as far as they could go. His expression became terrified, and he looked like he was about to hyperventilate. He could almost feel the chains around him again, constricting like the cobra's tail had been around his neck. He shook his head, trying to rid himself of the thoughts. That was all in the past. Things were different. Sabin wouldn't let the cobra or anyone else get him.
He grinned nervously at her, still on edge after his self-induced panic attack. "Sss... Sssabin's nice though. He'sss helped me out... loadsss'a times. Y'never met him?"

"I suppose not. ...I've never been too fond of dresses myself, and it's kosher for me to be in one. Well..." the fur that covered her body had not gone far from her mind, "at least, still accepted within the present company, anyway." As she spoke, a dark figure came around the side of her- but Emelyn did not look over to see the woman who circled around into Thom's viewpoint and beelined for the table.

"Don'... bloody care.... stupid idea..." The depressive cepholopod murmured, using two limbs that weren't clutching the older man's cane to strike the match. As always, it seemed the cigarette gave him just enough pep to perk through the machine around his neck. He peered through red bangs at the fish man beside him, mind trucking along the same lines, "Are there... drinks...?"

"Mhmm, the labs did a good job with the costumes. And with one likes yours I can't really complain!" He chuckled... then took another drink to cover what he'd just said. The filter in his head was slowly dirtied from the drinks and the atmosphere. The hustle and bustle of the party was a little bit overbearing for the sleepy lion inside him. Rex needed fresh air.
"Would you like to step outside? It's kind of stuffy to me in here."

"Yeah... Wanna?"
Booze was the last thing Billy needed, but how could Sid deny him when they both wanted the same thing? It was downright serendipitous... and if a few repeated doses from the collar couldn't kill the octopus then how could a few drinks? It'd be fine, really. He already wasn't exactly thinking clearly himself, but that didn't matter.
His own mind made up, Sid started moving towards the drinks table before Billy could reply.

"I'm sure it would suit you much better than it does me." Thom grimaced, plucking absently at the fraying edge of the torn dress. "But it's a bit more tolerable now. I just 'ave t' alter the 'at an' I may grow t'like it." Unlikely, but it would at least be more tolerable. Thom spared a lazy glance for the woman passing at his side, and had to double take. He knew her... From the night when it rained? She'd left, he'd... She'd changed since then, but it had to be her. Thom frowned, stopping her with a hand on her shoulder. "Fancy seein' you 'ere, Bia. Come meet Emelyn. You'll like 'er. She's saner than I am."

Aubrey and Moreau. Now, Ginerva had respect for Moreau, grudging though it was. He was, after all, the one who'd set her up with this job. She'd be stuck in a dead end - or an institution - if he hadn't. But Aubrey... Ginerva didn't even consider her a doctor. She'd whored her way to the top. "Of course I believe you," she said soothingly. "Though," her voice returned to its high, excited state. "I'm sure it wouldn't have been a great loss if she'd been... lost." She whispered this part very quietly and very intensely. She couldn't afford to be heard. "At least from what I've heard."
"Sabin, on the other hand..." She wanted to hear what Zach thought of him. " I have not had the pleasure. Could you tell me about him? Surely he must be a master among them all..."

Chubbs had fun with Shenzi, and as much as he liked her and all, he was wondering about his friends. Looking around the room, the all looked like they were having fun. It'd been so long, there'd been many changs and new people, he wonder if he was forgotten like " the big guy that we think died"
Chubbs decided to head back to the food table and start filling himself up again. Bits of meat were shoved under his mask and devoured in his powerful maw.

She blushed at his compliment, her skin under the thin layer of fur turning pinker than it already was.
Step outside? Little lights flashed deep inside her head, but she was blind to them. She knew that she wanted to give him another chance. She knew... that he was a friend. Yes, a friend. Besides, she was feeling awfully stuffy. A breather would be just the thing for her right now.
"Yess. I think that would be a ssplendid idea..." She offered him her hand.

Bia was suddenly flustered- she hadn't expected Thom to turn from his conversation with Ms. White and address her. Her feathered hand hesitated mid-grab for a bottle, then dropped it to her side and anchored it there so as not to let it fidget.
"Hello...Thom." She looked at Emelyn, who had been introduced as 'sane'. But it was hard to see anything as sane or normal when it had so animalistic a face. "Nice to meet you." It seemed like too little to say- but there was nothing else in her mind, sans an apology to Thom for leaving him that night- but even that seemed hideously out of place here. Maybe everywhere. She didn't want to mention it again, and possibly was using the circumstances of the social event as an excuse to not do so.

"You as well. Bia, was it?" Emelyn smiled again, more to attempt to put the woman at some sort of ease than to suggest that she thought of it as a fond thing to see yet another person brought to Hell Island. Not that it looked like she was too recent an unwanted "Moreau Survivor Series" contestant- her beak and feathers were as distinct a first transformation as any she had ever seen.
Emelyn had no real first impression of the dark woman, except to feel a pang at seeing the starts of another 'aviator'. She thought of Greer, and wondered how long it would be before her friend would come out of hiding. Though, she realized, much of their separation must be her own fault... for if either of them were to be categorized as 'hiding', surely, it must be the hedgehog woman who had spurned society and stowed herself in a cave for all those long months. Adapting to life in the village- and "life" again, in general- was to be more difficult than she would have imagined.
She addressed her next statement to the both of them, looking between the bird-woman and the snake-man with a muddled expression of wonder. "So... how many new people have there been, recently? I see so many of...them, around." She stopped herself from saying 'you'. It seemed wholly inappropriate in present company.

Rex was glad as she accepted. He didn't do it with the intent of getting her close to her while they were alone, he genuinely wanted to clear his mind and the noise wasn't helping. And at least she decided to come with him.
He took her cloven hand and helped her raise from her seat then walked towards the edge of the tent with his drink in his other hand. Rex through back the doorflap and stepped outside into the night. It had gotten considerably darker since he'd first gotten to the party and the typical hot humidity of the tropics had been replaced with a much cooler sea breeze. "Mmm, it's much nicer out here."

Oh the foods! Sandwiches, vegetable dips, jello, Gaius had been totally enthralled sampling from the table and helping himself to a little of everything, almost totally oblivious to the rest of the party. It wasn't until he realized he was still thirsty and had forgotten to get a drink that Gaius looked up. There was a big furry fellow with a metal head over by the meats - Gaius shuddered inwardly. How could anyone eat that bloody stuff? And more people had shown up too. It was really quite the party!
Picking up his sandwitch-pilled plate, Gaius turned towards the drinks table, and spotted the guys hanging about there. The one with the terrible underbite was quite recognizeable as Sid, but he saw the red hair of the other and did a double-take. A doctor in a wheelchair? But then he caught the unmistakeable purple-blue skin and squishy limbs, belonging to the one and only octopus-man. Gaius hesitated. He'd been wondering what in the world had happened to that guy ever since he vanished after that first booze drop-off. Well, only one way to find out!
Walking over determinedly, he gave Sid a wave and addressed Billy. "Hey! Bill, right? I haven't seen you in ages!"
