"What the <******** words instantly snapped from the demoness' lips, her really not caring about the profanity of it.
Christmas—was that what it was that day? Could is possibly be? Had she missed a month or three and a few days on her calender? Kasai stood from a comfortable and fuzzy chair in her room to snatch something—anything—with the date on it. What she found was a simple newspaper dated the day before then, mentioning that the holiday was the very next day.
And she growled, almost like a wolf, the sound vibrating softly off the walls. How could she have possibly missed something as perfect as this? Wasn't mistletoe such a wonderful choice to see some kind of action between the two demons?
And so she set to work... or rather, sent others to decorate for Christmas, making sure that they put up an extra bit of mistletoe. Kasai's stomach hurt, she couldn't eat, and she definitely didn't feel the Christmas spirit. In her mind, she was being overly pleasant as it was.

Night stood right outside the dining room and growled. Mistletoe was hung in the doorway. Perfect. Now how the hell would she get around the stuff? Answer: She couldn't because it was hung in every flippin' doorway to the dining room. Which meant that foxy and fire baby couldn't either.
Night blew her whistle, making Jacque wince and glare heatedly. He hated that high piched sound. Carlos practically materialized right behind them.
"Si."
"Carlos, I need you and Jacque to set up dinner for two," Night stated. "Will you?"
Carlos eyeballed the mistletoe. "You're trying to avoid that, aren't you?"
"Yeah."
Carlos sighed. He dashed into the room and began setting up, while Jacque watched. He shrugged and walked in at a calmer pace.

As the sun began to set, the fox made his way down the steps, continuing from there into the kitchen. He had not said a word to the Koorime, but just in case he followed, he took a different route that avoided the dining room. The mistletoe was painfully obvious, and, for the time being, he did not wish to be caught under it. Maybe later, though... if he could get on better terms with Hiei, that is.
Now came the slightly more difficult part of fixing dinner—what to make. Me wasn't particularly sure what the other cared for, aside from sweets every now and then. While sweets were good-tasting, they also lacked in substance. Considering that Hiei hadn't eaten much, that was hardly acceptable.
So the red-head went through a few cabinets, the pantry, checked the refrigerator, and finally decided that pork chops were to be the main dish. They were something that Shiori had introduced him to, definitely good, and if seasoned a bit different, tasted similar to a favorite Makai dish. Kasai at least had some good spices, so that would be no problem.
After he put the meat in the oven, he gathered some potatoes to mash, some bread, and a few fruits for a more healthy dessert. Kurama wasn't sure if the fire demon would like that. Actually, he knew that Hiei would hate it, having that sweet tooth. If he complained, the fox would fix it. No real harm done there, right?

"Kasai!" Night called happily. "Carlos and Jacque fixed up the dining room up really nice! You'll love it. And Jacque even went so far as to find some champaign that's even older than him! It's perfect." She did a little happy dance. "Now I just have to find music."

By this time Hiei had been contemplating things such as life and death and himself, looking out of the window in the bedroom absently. His quick senses felt Kurama going downstairs and he narrowed his eyes in question. "Kurama," he called, appearing in the hall and lgoing down the stairs as well. "Where the hell are you going?"
But he stopped at the bottom, eyes fixed at something in the archway of a door. A little plant. Leaves in a door? Where had he seen that before?
"Hey, Keiko."
SLAP.
The Koorime blinked, unfolding his arms. Around the wintertime, he'd always seen the detective waving that over his head when he got close to Keiko and would practically attack her with a kiss. He had asked Kurama what that was about and had thought the entire idea was ridiculous. If you wanted to kiss someone, just do it. He'd seen Yusuke and Keiko kissing before, without the leaves and Keiko had even been willing to do so.
Hiei disregarded the leaves, burning their edges a little bit as he made his way into the kitchen to see Kurama just finishing up the meal. He stared.
"You can't be the Youko. Not even in the tiniest bit. You're more like a housewife."

Jacque stared in something akin to awe at the great selection of CDs. They spanned an entire wall in the girls room. "Night... how many of these are romantic...?"
Night frowned slightly, and began pulling a few CDs from the wall. The amount wasn't very large, and Jacque sighed in relief. Even he wouldn't be able to look through all of these CDs.
"The rest are love songs. These are my mixed CDs." Night said blankly. Jacque fell to the floor.

How did cooking automatically make the red-head like a housewife? It was, as it turned out, a holiday... and that called for at least a little bit of specialness.
"Looking the part isn't an issue, but... you're the only man in my life, as of now, and I don't think you're up for that kind of commitment."
The words had come to him suddenly, but it was, in a humorous way, fitting for the situation. The Koorime might be a tad confused, at first, but seeing him understand would be interesting. If the reaction was anything like an earlier one, Kurama might have a reason to think the other harbored feelings for him—maybe starting an actual pursuit, and making such words hold some weight.
But such things were hardly probable, and likely just the product of a trapped, somewhat lonely kitsune's meet with boredom. And so, promptly so that Hiei wouldn't wonder, he gave a smile that hinted it was a joke entirely.
After leaving those words to the fire apparition, and while paying attention to the reaction, he began carrying the food on trays into the dining room.

Hiei stared for what must've been the millionth time in the past few days. This play between them was normal but more and more it had been about the ridiculous idea of the two as mates. He had started this one, and had expected some kind of witty response but somehow he was held in a silence different than the usual. He saw the smile the fox offered and his eyes narrowed slightly in thought when he looked away.
"No," he said, just as Kurama picked up the trays. "I guess I'm not."
That would've held a joking quality and it really was intended to do so but Hiei's contemplative and low tone of voice made it sound like he was very far away in his mind. He didn't notice that Kurama had left to the dining room right away. He followed after and stared again, this time at the food, and still wondering why Kurama always felt the need to feed him.
"I'm not dying, you know," he said, just to help himself out of thought. "You don't always have to baby me."
In truth, if Hiei were ever dying from something, be it a wound, poison or serious illness, he wouldn't tell anyone. Not even Kurama. He would hide himself as best as he could, maybe even slip into Makai so he could die. Though, depending on his reason for dying, he would take his life early.
He didn't think he'd last another five years anyway.
((Sorry it's taking me so long~))

From Hiei, such a response was easily expected—a mildly confused stare, and a possibly kidding comment agreeing with the crazy fox's words. In fact, anything different from that would have been a surprise. The odd thing, however, was that he didn't necessarily seem disgusted—and in some equally odd way, that gave the red-head a sense of... was it comfort? Or relief? The proper and most correct term wouldn't come to Kurama, but then, he felt such a thing shouldn't be pondered upon too deeply, taking into account their unfortunate situation and the ways those thoughts could distract him.
In addition to dishing himself up, he covered the Koorime's plate in the pleasant-smelling (and, once he tasted it, delicious) food, not even allowing him to do something as simple and mindless as that.
"I am aware that you don't need to be 'babied,' but I do want to do that for you—to make you comfortable, not for... any other reason. You deserve at least that, since you won't accept any more."
(I edited a small part. Hope it doesn't change things too much.)

Since when did the Forbidden Child deserve anything? As far as Hiei knew, he didn't. He didn't feel he had done anything special and his suffering was kind of distant to him and he didn't think much of it. Living like he did, with so much pain and sorrow gave him an odd look about himself. To him, he only deserved more suffering. Maybe the only good thing he deserved was—
Sharp eyes turned down at the sound of utensils at work and the heat he felt from the food. Oddly, without hesitation, he sat down at the table. Hiei ate, without another word and without seeming to take mind to the fact that doing so was an open acception of Kurama's kindness. He didn't speak, not wishing to anymore and a little irritated that he had been talking so much anyway. It tired him out and made him feel a little exposed.
The only sign of his annoyance showed when he rubbed the cut on his thumb that he had gave himself earlier. Somehow he'd reopened it and though he could barely feel the tiny sting, he cursed it with his eyes.
Soon he was finished, actually very well fed compared to food he hadn't been letting himself eat lately. He looked at Kurama, then at the kitchen. The fox always made desserts.

Shadow sat and sifted through cd after cd. It had to be perfect.
"No. Nope. Uh-uh. Ah! I have it! No, wait... nope. Not the one..."
Jacque rolled his eyes. "You could just play the violin. Don't you do that in a fairly decent way?"
Shadow stopped searching for the perfect cd and thought for a moment. "You know, instead of using a cd, I could play my violin! I can do that fairly decently!"
Jacque stared at the demented child.

Was Hiei eating willingly and without hesitation? With the plate empty only a minute or two later, it certainly did seem so—and such a thing meant he had made progress. The red-head smiled to himself, feeling a slight sense of pride, and finding the sight before him rather amusing.
The attention the Koorime paid the wound was noticed, but not spoken of. It really wasn't worth the mention and surely didn't pain the other too horribly. If the fox had thought, even for a second, that it did hurt him, coddling would have promptly followed, which, in the actual case, would've further irritated Hiei.
Kurama made eye contact with the other, then looked to the kitchen. He gave a feigned look of confusion, seeming to not know what was wanted.
"Are you... still hungry? I can give you more food," a small motion was made to the food already on the table.

Hiei was silent for a moment, looking Kurama dead in the eye. The look he gave communicated a somewhat irritated question. He blinked slowly, lowering his eyes for a moment, but then cutting back to the fox.
"I want dessert," he said plainly and simply, pushing his plate away and looking at the kitchen. He narrowed his eyes, as if concentrating on picking up a scent. He said nothing more, taking in a short sigh as if to convey that dinner was never okay without dessert.
The Jagan glowed briefly and Hiei's gaze shot to attention, head turning. He relaxed, looking almost embarrassed. He had the gall to c**k his eyebrows at Kurama, as if threatening if he didn't get him something sweet right that instant. It was a little uncharacteristic of him.

Hiei was acting abnormally demanding, even with his usual extent of such in mind. Though, in a certain way, that was—dare he say it?—cute. He was practically threatening death over a sweet treat that was bound to be gone seconds after being done. Assuming that he was able to wait that long, of course.
"Is that all?" Kurama wondered aloud, purposely sounding somewhat bored, the Koorime's manner not affecting him in the least. Why should it have? It was in his best interest to have the sometimes irritating redhead around, friendship aside, to watch his back and help him keep a level head.
And then he chose and odd way to make the little runaround up to him. With eyelashes fluttering slightly, he asked, "Is there anything in particular that you would like me to make?" According to Hiei, he was like a housewife, after all, so why not play the part? Kurama would find a suggestion or two helpful, but it wasn't a necessary thing to ask.

Night sat in the hallway and started to play her instument. A slow melody come from the violin, echoing sweetly off the walls. Jacque watched her silently. She wasn't really too bad at this...Don't want to ruin stuff, so I won't post for a while. Night will just play music for now.
