40k history wise there is no relation between the Elves of Fantasy and 40k. From what I can figure the Eldar are at their peak during fantasy, or climbing towards their grand empire. GW did that so as to make it easier with the creation of 40k, that is just a guess.

My assumption of why they did they did that was because if you played, say Warhammer 40,000 and felt like going to fantasy, you knew how the Elves worked, and vice-versa.

If I may add my two cents on your conversation, pardon me if you find this rude.
I think that GW realistically did the various Elves in fantasy and Eldar in 40k for the purposes of suckering in interest. Not nearly so much for storyline as if you want to dwell into the depths of 40k history [what I read into, not much of a fantasy guy] the Eldar were an incredibly power race that rules the stars for ages until they came to the fall and broke apart, the grasp on the universe gone. The thing though is that they, like the elves in fantasy came long before humanity, ruling the lands/universe and will fight gracefully to keep what is there.
THere of course how ever are more than one story to this as their are also Dark Elves/Dark Eldar and Wood Elves/ ...Harlequins? I dislike making that last comment though... Wood Elves suit the creation of Rangers and the Aloitic Craftworld since Harleguins are... CARNIES!!!! circus folk.. very small hands.. smell of cabbage and all that austin powers mumbo jumbo.
Now trying to steer back on topic, The relationship between the respective Elven and Eldar races I believe is more a way for gamers of one hobby to be able to move into the other respective hobby with a race they are already somewhat comfortable with to allow they a new flavour of the race. Not so much for fluff however or sense for that matter. GW loves to leave loop holes and unfinished stories to give gamers a chance to expand on the idea's themselves or even just be left in curiousity of what is to come. ^_^

The Harlequins could be related to the High Elves, though I am not sure, since I mainly focus on 40k.

Unit1294 Ghost The Harlequins could be related to the High Elves, though I am not sure, since I mainly focus on 40k. Sorry but Harlies and High eleves have nothing to with each other. The Harlequin worship the laughing god(One of the two surviving Eldar gods.) The Laughing God defeated Slaanesh and stopped the warp storms tearing up the Eldars realm. The Harlequin are a gurilla army and holders of Eldar legends.Look on the GW site for info or google "40k Harlequin".

Then you aren't playing Necrons right if you ask me. That or your dice seriously hate you. Even time I play Necrons, and it's quite often, I get straightup stomped. We'll be back is such bullshit. stare

We'll be back is such bullshit. stare Heh, my friend turned town playing eldar for that rule alone, he said he refuses to play an army with something so cheap. I myself arn't particularly worried about the necrons...I only have on heavy weapon to worry about in thier whole army, and I'll tear them apart at combat. also they cost even more than space marines (basing this off thier normal troops) so...(how exactly does I'll be back work again anyway?) I think the wraithguards are completely out of proportion though, can anyone else see one of those things beating the crap out of a space marine...both of them no armour no weapons just a hand to hand brawl...and that hippy has a five strenght and toughness. xp
