Band Geekette Double-tonging on the bassoon...Pain in the a**! Especially since my BD keeps saying 'top of the tip of the tongue on the tip of the reed.' Sorry, Sevie, kinda hard t'do that with a BASSOON. When you use the top of the tip of the tongue on the tip of the reed, on single-reeds, you are thrusting the reed against the mouthpiece, thus creating stop-motion sound. Can't do that with a bassoon! Anyone got any tips to help me get through it easier? I would also like some advice on how to double tounge. I can't do it to save my life! *Edit - Yay Page 33!

i was researching how to double tongue on the bassoon a while ago and i found a website that gives a lot of advice on how to double tongue better... http://idrs.colorado.edu/publications/dr/DR8.2/DR8_2Adam.htmlif that doesn't work you can always google "double tonguing on the bassoon" and you'll find a lot of other websites that give advice ...

Thanks! I developed a pretty fast single tongue, but it still isn't fast enough to keep up with the brass players that can do it a lot easier. Anyone here ever played Mercury (it's a march)?

I love my oboe! I've been playing for about 3 1/2 years now. At the moment I'm not playing it in my concert band. I'm helping the flute section because we're lacking flute members.
crying
O well, in about a month I get to play my oboe again.

Anyone here ever played Mercury (it's a march)? no but i've played Mars. Jupiter is my fave of all the movements, never played it, but it sounds cool! mrgreen

I mainly play oboe, but I picked up bassoon last year. We don't have a marching band, but if we did, I would play my alto sax. Instead, I play alto in jazz band. I might get to play english horn this year, too! I'm really excited! I have the double case, now all I need is the horn. My oboe instructor might let me play her extra one for all-state band this year though... I didn't audition on it, but they sent me the english horn parts. I can't wait! yay! whee

I have my college audition on Saturday, and I'm going to be playing Concerto in G Minor and Hindemith Sonata. Any of you guys ever play those two songs before?

lol. I'll have to play more to be able to play anything decent for a college audition. I just started oboe. My main instrument is flute. I'm really enjoying the oboe though! Any solos you might reccommend that would be not to easy but not too hard for a person whos been playing for about a month?

I love playing bassoon so much, I'm absolutely depressed that it's my senior year and I'm going to a college that doesn't have a music program.
In the world of double reeds, bassoon is king pirate

I have been playing the oboe for about a year. I learned on my own, because I couldn't get help from my band director. Anyway, sometimes I can't get it to sound right. I could playing something in the lower register and it sounds like it is in the upper register, or vice versa. One of the other things that I have a hard time with, sometimes when I'm trying to get a note the reed will just vibrate really hard. I don't really know how to describe it but it doesn't sound right. Any tips?
