Angiemademe I am exstatic to see this pass. It's fantasic to see some appreciation for what our soldiers are doing. and I'm especially pleased that they didn't leave the Guard out in the cold like most times. Although by the time it goes into effect Alex will have finished school. xd Well, congrats to him! At least it's there if he wants to go back for more! I'm crossing my fingers, Tommy goes in for his VA appointments. Usually from what I hear, it takes longer (like 9 months after ETSing) for them to see you, so maybe we'll hear back about disability sooner.

I've got a question that you ladies might be able to answer: Do I get a separate ID card for Tricare, or do I just use my military ID?

smile Your military ID. You'll also receive a little card in the mail but I think all it is really, is a place to write down your PCMs name.
EDIT: Just dug that other card out. It says it is valid with the ID. It doesn't really have any information on it except your name, lists your status, and effective coverage date. It has the TRICARE numbers on the back if you need to call any of them. I've never had to use this card for anything, however, but we've always done our care on-post until our current duty station where they do not have a hospital or cover maternity care.

Okay. We're just doing Standard for now, and keeping our OB and pediatrician. I've heard that the military ID + sponsor's SSN is all we need, I'll just call on Monday and make sure. Thanks. :]

Another question: xp I have the link to the mypay website, but I don't know DH's login info. Does it default to something I could figure out, like SSN or something, or am I going to have to wait until he tells me the user/pin?

heaventhepope So DH is finally almost done with training and we're PCSing to Ft. Hood! Ah, that black hole known as Fort Hood. XD We were there and we're about 3.5 hours away now. Unless DH changes his job, we'll be back there again. Fantastic Exchanges on that base.

heaventhepope So DH is finally almost done with training and we're PCSing to Ft. Hood! Ft.Hood isn't too bad. It's the city of Killeen that is absolutely pitiful. My husband and I are there(well, he's stationed there but we live off-post), and we can't wait til he's out so we can leave. People and things are getting ridiculous out here...especially since 1st Cav left not long ago... Is it just me, or does it seem that when there's a deployment, some people left behind tend to go wild?

Dude, I won't even say what I think about Killeen, other then I told DH that if we have to go back, we either a) have to live far away from Killeen/Cove/Heights or b) I'm going home for that duration of time.
I don't want to touch the debauchery and poor behavior that happens on both sides of a deployment. rolleyes
We own a house there that we've never lived in and thankfully, we just got a new renter, not sure if they're staying at Hood permanently or one of the people staying for a couple of months and moving on through.

How close to base do you idealy want to be? I would not recommend Killeen or Cove which are closest if you want more choices in shopping and things to do. Harker Heights is a little further out and closer to Temple and Temple is a decent distance away and has better choices for most things then the others. Temple is a 20-some mile drive from Killeen, if memory serves me.
Though I do know there's a huge glut of rentals in the Killeen market due to the troop moves and deployments. So you can get some really good deals for rentals right now and lots of choices.
EDIT: OR if you want to go a bit further out still and in another direction, Round Rock is about a 45 minute commute and almost to Austin and quite nice. There are a few small areas between there and the base as well. It really depends what you want. smile

Round Rock is really nice, about halfway to San Antonio too. I think the new Ikea store is there too.
