An elderly-looking man sat with a dirty cloak wrapped around his bony frame, a large pack set beside him and a staff laying across his lap. His right hand was placed tenderly on the wooden ornament and his left was clutched against the side of his bald head. "Y-yes momma...Children good to Adrian...Good children. Yes..." He mumbled, the pauses cut by his bursts of quick, near incoherent mumbling. "Good children...play games with Adrian. Master help Adrian teach them not to take staff." He lifted the pole and hugged it tight as though a mischievous, playful kid he was speaking of had showed up to try and steal his staff to make him play.
A woman sat in a shady alley nearby, doing her best to remain hidden. She was only scoping out the city, no plans to do anything to it...yet. She peeked out of the alley after several long minutes before moving to sit next to the mumbling airbender, taking clothes out of the bag and looking around again. Nobody was around so she quickly stripped off the bodysuit and changed into her common clothes since it was more than warm enough that she didn't need her native furs. It was as if she were completely ignorant of Adrian who never looked in her direction the entire time.
"Did you have fun, sweetie?" She asked softly, placing her hand gently on Adrian's shoulder. "It's time to go home." She used a motherly tone despite being noticeably younger than him.
Adrian jumped and looked up at her immediately. "Yes...Yes fun...Adrian play with children...Children don't take staff now." He said, starting to rock back and forth a bit. At a gesture from the strange woman, he stood and proceeded to follow her to an inn, a small cloth cap full of spare change clutched underneath his staff. Time to go now. Sleep is good. He thought pleasantly, eager for the warm bed his earnings would get them for tonight.

Angstrom woke up, feeling the place where a large cut and bruise formerly were, sighing with relief as they had healed sufficiently to practice once more. He stood up and flexed his scarred, bulging arms and legs, realeasing a large blast of earth in every direction. Angstrom looked around him to see the effects, only to be dissapointed. The earth was barely rippled, and that looked like sand. He needed to improve! He sat down on a rock as the sun began to climb higher. He began his meditations. He thought himself as part of the rock, and listened to it, and its rythms. He tried to feel the insects scurrying around inside the earth's flaky skin, and the animals that burrowed under it.He felt underneath him the throbbing rock, the living earth, the writhing sand. He saw the trillions of feet that trode this earth before him, of all races and nationalities. And then, he opened his eyes. Many hours had passed, and the sun was getting lower in the sky. He had never remembered meditating this long before... But he had, and it was done. He decided to start up a fire and cook himself some food.

Sighing softly as we walked on the sandy ground. He got off from the dock and has traveled for over three days strait. He asked for the name of this Earth bender he was after, but no one could give him the clear information "Son of a b***h.." he grumbled as he traveled in the sandy ground.
As he continued this mountain of sand he gave a long sigh, quite tired of looking at sand. He got off the path and began to travel towards the side of the road, with a idea in mind..mostly to kill time, but to experiment with something. Taking out a plate sized peace of metal he a pile of sand upon it. Placing it on the ground he began to used his firebending, but he focused the heat upon the metal plate.
People watched him strangely as for literately two days, with moments to sleep, eat and meditate of course, he sat and heated this steel plate focusing the heat of his fire, every fiber of his being went into this work, and within mid day of the third day, he was rewarded..the pile of sand he began with was now a pile of molten glass fused upon the plate. Panting softly with a smile he looked over his creation. He was now aboustly exhausted, and felt weak. His abilty to fire bend all together was depleted for the day because of all the power he put into melting that sand. To experiment finding the right temperature, to focus it on the sand so it melted. He then let his creation sit in the sun, letting the air cool it down as he then laid down, falling asleep. For about two days he slept strait.

Angstrom had been practicing for almost a week now, with no notable progress. But he felt that today would be different. Maximising his energy, he sat down where he had made the ripple before. It would be a while before he would be able to do that. So for now, he would concentrate on one angle at a time. Raising a single boulder from the ground, he took aim, as with the rocks. He took a forward lunging position, body sideways, left foot in front of the right. Then, raising his right foot to waist level, he thrust it down onto the earth, cracking it with his energy. Not good enough, he thought angrily. I need more power! He lifted his left foot and filled it with more energy, and smashed it against the earth harder. He left a sizable hole where his foot had been, but nothing else. he was considerably frustrated now, and then he realised something. Of course! I am not channeling my chi, it's all dispersing as I hit the earth! now he knew what to do. He lifted his right foot and right hand, and smashed his foot down, controlling the direction it was going with his hand. He was pleased at the massive crack he left going to the rock, the earth spiking up at odd angles as it went. He may not have gone that far, or hit the rock to destroy it, but at least he knew now what he had to do.

On his way to the library, it dawned on Haru that he might need some sort of teacher. He considered the prospect: it would be beneficial, much more fruitious and much quicker than self training, but it would cost him... he did have some money to spare, though. Meh. He'd get a job if he needed. It'd be a better idea for him to look in Ba Sing Se, though. It was a much broader city.

The young woman stretched as Adrian peered out through the window of the towering city of Omashu. Draka draped one arm over the man's shoulders and gazed out at the chutes he seemed to be staring at. ""Sweetheart, you know that you'll get into trouble if you try and ride a delivery chute. You've already tried, remember?" She remarked, squeezing his shoulder lightly before releasing it and turning away.
The airbender slowly turned away from the window and looked at Draka. "Fun...Fun Chute...Fun...Mean Rockie..." He muttered, looking around slowly as if he were somewhere unfamiliar. He didn't like the Omashu guards or the Earth Military. They didn't let him do fun things. They were bad men to stop innocent amusements.

Angstrom awoke painfully, pulling himself from painful memories of the past, of the fire and blood... But he stood nonetheless. Today, he would work on speed. now, the signs around him were obvious of his own personal training, and the ground had been coated in gravel from so many shattered rocks. He stood in the familiar position, so new, and yet so old to him. Today, there would be a bare minimum of bending. Flexing his iron-wrought muscles, he began a slow, fluid excercise he had seen some waterbenders do. Today he would try to adapt that to suit him, and to limber his muscles. He began slowly, tracing every step, timing his actions to suit his breath. in. Step, kick, rotate, thrust punch. out. Reverse, jump kick, roundhouse punch. in. And so on, gaining momentum and speed, increasing their power until he was shattering the rocks around him in his fury. His chi flew unheeded, destroying what he could not and sending the broken earth into a whirlwind of stone. The sharp, loose rocks sliced the bandages on his feet and his hands, and left many cuts and some bruises, but still Angstrom did not stop. He was in his own world, slaying the firebending gang that destroyed his life. A powerful puch smashed one back, destroying his ribs. A reverse kick took another's head off, blood spraying in a scarlet fountain three feet above Angstrom's head. His left hand caught the throat of one, and his right lifted a rock spire. His left hand and right hand worked in unison on this;
The left hand threw the pleading firebender like a ragdoll fifteen feet into the sky.
The right hand snapped forward, sending a solid spiked tendril of rock from the hard packed dirt below, Impaling the firebender in another display of gore and brutality.
Angstrom suddenly felt very tired. He looked around, amazed at the devastation he believed HE might have caused. A small tree was shattered on a tendril still stretching from the earth like a grasping claw, and the ground around him was shattered, everything in the nearby vicinity powderised or broken. Legs quivering, Angstrom looked at his sliced hands and feet, and collapsed, exhausted, nearly all of his chi spent.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
He awoke a day and a half later, ravenous and ravaged. Crawling over to his pack, he grabbed out some jerky and ripped it apart, sloughing down some water from a canteen. Hands shaking from exhaustion, pain, and something akin to fear bound his wounds and applied new bandaged to his hands and feet. Then, once more, Angstrom drifted into a painful sleep, with only the demons of his nightmares at the door to greet him.

A weak moment.
A rift in his mind.
A moment's lapse
Is all it takes- to
Destroy his
fragile Existence.
Angstrom had finally awoken. there was no great hubbub about it- His eyes flicked open from a dark, dreamless sleep, and that was it. No muscle was taut, no nerves twitched. he simply lay there, thinking slowly through the fog that covered his mind. The strangest things, things he had no Idea existed, drifted through his mind with startling clarity. The earth was pummeled soft under his body. Without thinking, without moving, he let himself flow inward and out, letting his chi soak through the earth. To his mild surprise, to which he reacted only by blinking, the ground began to bubble slowly, turning to sand that he slowly sank into. earthen walls were rising beside him unheeded- he welcomed their cool touch. still not a muscle moved, not a nerve twitched. He sank down about four feet. He felt sleepy again, and he closed his eyes and drifted into a peaceful, restful sleep. --------------------_--___--_--------------------------------
This time when Angstrom awoke, he was well rested. He was surprised to see himself standing in what loked to be a grave. He began to stand up, but then stopped. He could hear things that he could not hear before- scrabblings, thumpings... life. His senses were exended- he could feel more. while underground, his touch had appeared to be greatly enhanced, though not unduly so. Any earthbender would be, but this being the first time he was below ground, feeling it, instead of above and manipulating it, made him see. He had felt well rested- more so that he had if he had a week of sleep! something ticked in him, that told him- Balance is the key. Keep your chi equal, and you will be equal. This made Angstrom know more about himself, to see what he had been doing, what many others did in folly. Their chi was a part of their body, just as the circulatory system was- in fact, they were intertwined on several levels! And so, just as he had to rest his heart, to equalise his blood, flesh and mind- he must also equalise his chi to keep himself fit. Little did he know that it would be this fact that would pave his road to the mastery of the understanding of chi, and himself.

It had all came down to this. Angstrom had woken up, equalized himself in mind and body, and then ate a good meal. Today, he would try something he had never done before. Left foot forward, right foot back, right fist at abdomen, left arm reashed out from the shoulder, he took his place. He breathed in, and the excercise began. He ran to a boulder, feet skipping across the earth, his own chi propelling him farther and faster, slamming the sand down into the rock a few inches below. He ran faster and faster until he reached the boulder where he had left so many imprints in his earlier training. He leapt three feet into the air, skirting the top of the boulder and launching himself roughly fifteen feet into the sky, silhouetting himself against the high sun. He dove down headfirst, spinning like a top, concentrating his chi into a drill-like form around his body. The ground grew dangerously close as his aerodynamic form took to speed. Ten feet.[/i[ He lifted up his left and right fists, concentrating more of his physical energy into them as he plummeted towards the earth. five feet. Driving them forward as hard as he could, he focused his chi into his fists and drove home into the earth, smashing it wide and making a sizable crater with the force dispersion of his power. His fists were dug deep into the earth, and he remained perfectly rigid in that form so much like a handstand for several minutes, amazed at what he had accomplished. He leaned backwards, rock crumbling to allow his hands passage through. He stood to his feet and immediately sat down. his realizations had all come to a point now- His mental and physical prowess had been increased, as had his focus and restraint. He had learned the lesson of balance, and how to keep it and restore it, how to know when it was off. His muscles were once again toned with exercise, and his bending skills were sharper than ever. He would move on now, until his body told him to stop again where he would find his next realization on his step to strength.
