Izaet hello people, few bits of info about me: was in guard two years (graduated from hs now) our guard at its bigest was 17, now I think its down to about 5 with no seniors at all -_- I mostly spun flag but a little bit of sabre, liked sabre better. we had some pretty cool tricks in some of our shows. We had one were there was one girl laying on the floor and one was standing over her(one leg on each side) the standing girl threw a parallel and ran and the girl on the ground caught it. one time we had six girls standing back to back and throwing 1 1/2 on flag turn and catch the girl behind's flag. I was in that one. It was really hard cause you each had to be perfect so the other could catch it and move in perfect time with the other person so you didn't trip over each other. One year we had one of the freshman throw a quad on rifle and do a turnaround catch. I'm trying to think of anything else cool we did. maybe I'll add more later My favorite trick was done my senior year. We got to toss a double on flags and spin around and catch it behind our backs.

Our brass line's instruments have dents due to the player, nothing to do with the guard or even marching band for that matter.

When I was about to pick up the rifle my mom told me how she went to school with a girl who joined the Bugle Corps and did rifle. She was really good...then she dropped the rifle, it bounded and came up and hit her in the face...chipped a tooth... and i still love playing with the wooden weapon.

wow. i had some major lolz when i was reading all of your posts. but my favorite equipment is the flag, but that's only because we're too pooor to afford anything else crying crying
but we DO have hand flags though, we used them in our percussion feature last year. we also have these big ALUMINUM poles that hurt like none other when you drop the flag on your head during a toss.
i learned many new and wonderful curse words last year when i was in guard. i always dropped the flag on myself at least once during practice. i think i actually lost brain cells as a result

WOO some place to spazz about guard! Yeah sooo.... This is my first year on guard. My favourite is the rifle heart I'm happy mine just came in the mail so I don't have to worry about the practice one breaking in half every time I drop it. My school doesn't really love our guard, they don't even really see us as anything, not sport nor club nor anything. It's sad, most of our funding comes from our parents wallets and fried rice sales XD We are on a week of break 'cause we just finished all our competitions and they wanted us to rest. But I'm soooooooooooooooo bored!!! gonk
SO ya...HI!

My girlfriend (in guard, I am not..) throws 5s on rifle, when she first did it she called me and was freakin' out....
But just this past year this one girl on flag (Who is really terrible, always atleast 1 beat behind in her work) hit a trumpet with her flag, put a huge dent in the bell, the trumpet was like balling

My career as a member of my High School Guard is, unfortunatly, at an end. This is my Senior year. I have but one thing to say to all of you who aren't sure wether to continue this line of work.
Do it.
Sure, the directors can be bitches, the capitans, worse, and let's not even mention the normal instrument players...but the sense of family, and belonging, and fellowship, and knowing that the person you're running next to has shared your own blood, sweat, and tears...that's something that I would never give up for all the trophies, medals, or whatever in the world.
Don't give up, always think to the end and how you want to feel when your senior year roles around, and don't forget to over exagerate when you dance...those judges need to notice how much of a badass chick(or dude) you are!

hi guys!!!! heart well this is my 2nd year in guard and i absoultly love it. my fav, piece would be flag and rifle, not sabre cause i almost got attacked by it. i can do a quad on rifle, and i can do a bunch of stuff on flag, (too many to name) cause du-duden, im on flag line, wanted to try out for captin next year but decided not to cause of way too much competion. you might have heard of us, but if you didn't i am from vista regimental band and pageantry corps of vista. and we started winterguard late but now after four tournaments, we are in regional AA. heart xp whee

I've been lucky enough to have been in colorguard for 4 years, though sadly I'm graduating this year. Actually, next month to be exact.
I was a flag all four years, though I'm pretty good with rifles and sabers(sp?) I've finally managed to throw a quad on rifle, because I have a -really- light rifle. However, it helicopters horribly.
I love tosses and will try just about any toss put in front of me.
And luckily, I have the opportunity to ossibly be in guard for another two years in college because the college I'm going to has finally started a marching band, winterguard, and football team. All I have to do is make it through try outs and I'll pay absolutely nothing to be in it. In fact, I get paid $500, the equiment is new and there are no fees. Plus, winterguard travel expenses(regionals in Deyton, Ohio, Tampa, Florida, and Pensacola, Florida) are covered. Wish me luck! I'll need it...
