Maia tightened her hold on Dari for a brief moment. So he'd lost his family too. She hadn't known. "Doesn't matter," she said. "It doesn't matter that you're different, even. You're still you." It didn't matter what his origins were, or how'd they'd come to find him. "I'm glad Toby rescued you."
"They're not you, though," Maia protested. Shed closed her eyes though, and it was followed by a yawn. "Night Dari."

It was pretty clear that nothing he said was going to sate the selkie, so he simply held his tongue on the subject of his coworkers and said "Good night, Maia."
When she seemed to be sleeping soundly his gaze shifted, not viewing anything directly but staring through into nothingness. He was hoping Toby would think to come find him in the morning or he may be late for work, and while the punishment for him was admittedly a bit lightened (what did you threaten to someone who required no income?) but it was the principal of the thing. So he began to lose himself, drifting in odd middle space between consciousness and nothingness.

It was around nine thirty when Maia considered herself completely awake. The selkie had climbed out of bed, changed into the sundress she had left on the floor the night before; a pretty light blue, and had began to pace the floor of the apartment. She felt as if something she'd eaten had disagreed with her, but She hadn't eaten yet that day. And what was the word? Jittery.
Did it have to be today? Maybe tomorrow would be better. Maybe the could go out for ice cream instead. Or go to the lake. Or maybe to a mall! Did Arizona have one?

Dari had stirred a few minutes after Maia woke. It had taken him a little while to shake from his meditation although consciousness had begun returning as soon as she'd stirred. He rose still in just pants and eyed the clock. Hm, he'd better start getting ready.
"Maia, I have to get dressed. Would you like to come with me?" She seemed on-edge and he wasn't sure she'd want to be alone for any amount of time.

He wanted her to come with him while he got dressed? That was certainly a new one. "Alright," She agreed, stopping in her pacing. "And we'll meet Toby there won't we?" And then breakfast, she guessed. What came after that was a mystery. "Maybe he'll go swimming with us. Do you think I'd beat him in a race?"

"Toby should be here soon. I do think you would beat him in a race, but I don't know if we'll have time to go swimming today," Dari admitted. He led Maia from her unit and down the hall into his. Most of his walls were not white any longer and the wall behind the couch was in striped wallpaper. The only white wall that remained was in the kitchen, where he rarely went. He headed straight for his oft-unused bedroom and went to the closet where his few suits hung. He was not human. He did not sweat, did not eat, and did not smell. Unless he bled or fell in the mud, there was no reason to wash his clothes, and so he had much less. Again he undressed within eyesight. He had no shame, but he had nothing to be ashamed of. His rump was purely for locomotion and otherwise he was only shaped like a human.

No time? Maia frowned at that. "Well. We can hope," she said. She looked around his apartment. "This is much nicer than mine," She said. She looked to the walls. Huh. "It looks better like that." She didn't watch Dari change, instead interested in his decor.
"Will you be free tonight?"

"It's a permanent fixture, so I took to some adjustments." Dari was tying his tie, checking it in the mirror on his wall. "I shouldn't be needed tonight. I could stay here again if you'd like." Well, not here in his room but here in the building... unless, of course, she wanted to stay in his apartment. He wouldn't mind.

"I'd like that," Maia said. "Do you think I could stay here tonight? It'll be like a double sleep over. You stayed at my place." And she didn't particularly want to return to her apartment. "What do you think is for breakfast?" She asked.

"Certainly. I see no problem in that." Really she should be staying at her own place and getting used to being there, but all he could think about was her tear-stained face. How could he leave her alone again? He would humor her just this one more night and then she'd be on her own.
...breakfast. He always forgot meals. Maia had to eat.
"We can go down to the cafeteria." They'd probably be expecting at least one of them to keep an eye on her, wouldn't they? They still had some leeway. He hoped they did, at least. He grabbed his phone from the nightstand and awakened it to text Toby. Luckily, his peculiar flesh was still reactive.

"Come on." He offered Maia a smile and motioned for her to follow.

"Really?" Maia smiled at that, moving to hug Dari. So she could stay! Good. That was good. She wondered if She could stay more than just the one night, though. "Alright." Maybe he'd forgotten breakfast, he certainly seemed to act as though he had.
"So do you think they have waffles?" she asked, following Dari. She had enjoyed the sweet breakfast. "Maybe something else with syrup?"

Dari accepted the hug and patted Maia on the back. Well, she was certainly excited about being able to spend the night.
"They have quite a bit of variety," he said, tucking his phone into his pants and removing himself gently from the embrace. He didn't want to be too late. "I can't say I've ever eaten there before, so I'm not entirely familiar. I'm sure we'll find something you like."
He walked with her through the building and to the cafeteria, which held fewer tables than one might expect. There were only so many people needing food at any given time. Right now there were four people total, but Dari had seen waffles. He led Maia to the counter and smiled to the woman currently reloading the scrambled eggs, then handed Maia a plate. "Take whatever you like."

That's right. Dari didn't eat. Well, he did, sometimes, but he didn't need to. No wonder he'd never eaten there. She followed him through the building, to the cafeteria. Huh. For such a big important place, she'd expected more people to be there.
She studied the counter. Ah! She spotted the waffles and took two, stacking them onto her plate and putting syrup on them. She glanced towards Dari. Was this okay? She could take whatever she wanted? She took a banana, too. "Sit with me?"

Each time Maia glanced questioningly back, Dari offered her a reassuring smile and a nod. The poor thing seemed so skittish but he thought most people would be on their first day here.
"Of course," he said finally, turning back out toward the seating area. He saw a familiar head and smiled. "Do you want to meet another fae, or would you prefer to not?"

"Another fae?" Maia echoed, looking around. She held her plate out in front of her, still looking. There were only four people in the cafeteria: and it had to be one of them. "I want to. Lets go!"
Skittish behavior or not, she was certainly eager to meet another fae.
