Sunstrike

Sunstrike waited until he finished and then doubled over. At first it might be mistaken for tears, it had been a long day. But snickers trailed through the cavern. If Aiysin thought that he was weird for marking her, laughing wouldn't help matters any.

"Gods...Fate..." His eyes looked a little feverish as he grabbed her shoulders. "Don't tell me about Fate, I've slept with her enough times to know how to screw with her head."

How could anyone...sleep with Fate? But there was a lot of certainty in his voice when he said it, still giggling over some private joke. There was something devious about Sun when he started talking about Gods like they were people just like any other. You start thinking of tales of Tricksters. Maybe they started off fallen such as Sun was.

He waved a hand dismissively, letting go of her shoulder for a second.

"I'll figure out how to clean it up, I haven't played janitor this long not to sort something out."

She just stared at him, one eye brow raised. Apparently taking the laughter as mockery of some sort. Teach her to try and say anything embarrassingly comforting again-- Geeze.

Coughing, she pretended not to take notice of it and just shrugged cleaning and putting away the suture kit and salve.

"Well... you're not alone. Sometimes I don't know if we're so much of an army or special forces as we are a giant clean-up crew."

A finger tucked under her chin and lifted it a little. He'd tucked his knees up, the other arm around both legs, face hidden except for those eyes and of course his ears, which wiggled when he was amused.

"Thankyou, darlin, I know what you meant." He tickled the skin lightly. "So, is that little dress hiding anything else? Or should I just guess at whats underneath." He practically purred, going back to the failsafe flirt.

She was cute when she pouted.

She flushed softly at the warmth in his voice and the endearing expression, the realization and sudden selfconsciousness that she was blushing, painted her cheeks a brighter shade of red.

She didn't quite know how to react. Aiysin didn't have a man in her life... hells bells, she'd never even kissed anyone before!

But before she could worry about what to do, Sunstrike took that last step over the line. The resounding slap and imprint of an angry hand on his cheek signaled that she found being angry and indignant, more comfortable than flirting.

She had turned around, her back to him as she hugged her knees and drew angry lines in the dirt floor, muttering under her breath.

Sun's 'failsafe' was going to land him in some serious hurt eventually---

Sunstrike snickered softly behind her, not bothering to rub the slap. He'd well and truly deserved it after all, and it wasn't the first time...nor probably the last. He'd seen her blush though, in the odd view from his eyes, and to him it was worth it.

He watched her back as she shivered in anger, drawing the lines in the dust.

"You look cold." It was a deliberately misunderstood ovbservation on his part. He knew the real reason she was shaking wasn't the cold, but there also could have been a double meaning behind it as well.

"Is that you're element as well as gating?" The next sentence confirmed that it had meant not one, but two things. It was hard to tell which was probably more insulting, the first or the second.

She flinched. Apparently, he'd hit a nerve. Aiysin didn't say anything, she just got to her feet and walked to the edge of the cavern's opening. Sitting down again and kicking her legs out over the side, she lifts her face to the breeze, letting it play over her face, whisking away the few lonely drops of moisture that had managed to get past her defences.

Unlike last time Aiysin had moved away from Sun however, the mist didn't retract. She had expanded her radius to include him and keep him hidden from whomever might be trying to follow behind them.

Sun didn't get up and follow her, he knew better, just sat where he was watching her work. He looked at his leg and sighed softly. She'd helped him out, and what the heck had he done? He'd gotten cranky and snarky at her.

There was a stiff movement as he got up. Gods, he needed a bed.

He walked over to the edge and put his palm against the opening, looking down at her sitting there.

"I'm sorry. It's...been a rough day, and I'm worried. I joke when I worry, it's a habit I probably need to break. Biggest reason I get called idiot." He actually lowered his voice to sound like Vahn, almost barking the word.

He turned away to go back into the warmth, not knowing anything else to say really.

"You were right."

She said hesitantly. her voice was strained even as she tried to make it sound devoid of emotion, it was just a little higher, just a little tighter sounding than it should have been.

"I am cold."

She was shivering as she extended her arm, the weighted silver pendant spilling forth and swinging too and fro in perfect rythm. Like a silent, shining metronome.

"I'm not what you call a people person... I've never really... friends... lovers... I don't know how to deal with those. I'm the Gatekeeper. People come and go, they pass through me and then they leave. That is my purpose... "

Sunstrike froze, then tilted himself back grinning.

"Never hurts to start somewhere, ya know? And I know that's not totally true. You love Sierra."

He found his comfy place against the wall and settled again.

"Maybe not in a lovers sense, but it's still there. S'a lot of heat when you get pissed off and want something too."

She tilted her head backwards to look at him, only to find him grinning at her. She just blinked... then he mentioned Sierra and her cheeks flushed a brilliant scarlet hue as she closed her eyes and sighed wearily.

"Sierra-- just being able to serve someone like her... to work with her and receive her praise... even if I was undeserving of her kind words, they gave me a reason to be. I've never understood, the magnitude of that woman's compassion or forgiveness..."

Aiysin didn't really know how to feel about Sierra... love of some sort was there, but it's not like she stood a chance. She'd listened to Shin huff and sigh enough over the woman to know that she was devoted to Vahn and nobody else would be able to steal her heart away from him. Gods knew Shin had tried... and tried... and tried. It was kind of pathetic really...

But at least he had acted on his feelings.

Aiysin.... well. Feelings scared her. When one did actually surface, she was more apt to poke it with a 10ft pole and tell it to be on it's way, then embrace it.

"She's my idol I suppose.... My abilities always seemed a burden to me, but when they were what allowed me to join GUARDIAN... for her... If anything happens to her... I don't know... What would I do?"

Sunstrike made a soft sound but kept the sarcastic remark to himself. Truth was that if anything happened to Sierra, everyone was in trouble, or dead, and not worrying about it anymore.

Sun had seen Vahn change over in great pain...and Ra'kar had nothing on it. No...that wasn't right. Ra'kar had intelligence and beauty, Vahn was just...lost to the backlash of power. It was pretty surprising, the differance from one fire weilder to the next.

"Have a little faith, so long as everyone does their part, we'll bring her back. I was caught by surprise last time," He bit off a laugh. "Maybe Ra'Kar just needs to meet her match, eh?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 3:58 am

"What if she's already found it?---"

The concern that was reflected upon her face, hinted that GUARDIAN had been taking careful stock Ra'kar's interpersonal relationships.

"What if Victor gives Ra'kar, and she gives him the same kind of strength, that Vahn and Sierra were supposed to give eachother?"

Sunstrike snorted.

"Then I'll just have to ******** that one up too. Can't go through life being the wrench in the works by descriminating between couples, now can I?"

He suddenly grinned and leaned back.

"Ra'Kar loves power, and she figures Victors the be all end all when it comes to it. While she probably doesn't think on the same scale of power as Vick, she'll see him as a source to cling to, payed in her service by ridding herself of Sierra."

Sunstrike looked at Aiysin as if judging whether or not he could trust her, then shrugged.

"I've seperated people like that before..."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 9:30 am

Aiysin couldn't help but giggle at the idea of Sun playing favourites between the two couples. As he assessed Ra'kar though, her face turned extremely serious.

"I'm afraid you're right... GUARDIAN's still trying to determine it though... what triggered the gear shift. Before the first tournament two years ago, Sierra and Ra'kar struggled for power and dominance true... but Ra'kar never wanted to be 'rid' of Sierra, just subdue her. Ra'kar has always looked out for Sierra-- that is until Victor. I think you know better than I do, just how well she 'took care' of her."

Aiysin's fists clenched and unclenched in frustration. The thought of what that man did--- Aiysin would find Victor Fah. And she would make him pay.

"I've seperated people like that before..."

That made her blink.

"Mmmm?"

"What if, Vahn had told her he couldn't love her?" He was tired, and more then a little disbelieving as he said it, but there just couldn't have been any other explination. When all else fails, think of the worst.

"Or said something that Sierra could have taken that way? Because I honestly think that he does love her, desperately. But he's not always..."

Sun didn't finish the explination. He didn't like talking about Vahn like that really. Not when the other guy couldn't hit him for being a jerk. He answered the other question first.

"Divide someone, two whole people in two bodies. Mind you, she wouldn't like it, Ra'Kar would end up mortal..."
