It was time to make the descent again. And there it was again.
Screaming.
What an awful sound. the monsters did not so much as grunt upon being struck, and yet here in this place she could merely step in and be assaulted by the sorrow of someone she did not know. Rostym cringed as she chose her path and ambled along, her hands clutching at her person as if to make sure she was still there. Here and well, she told herself repeatedly.
She missed the thrill of victory her first time had given her.
And yet that heaviness clung to her as she approached the platform, making her movements slow as she summoned her dual swords. Waiting. The crowd emerged once more and one stepped out.
Grief etched its face.
Rostym was stunned by the level of emotion and did not defend herself.
What had sorrowed this figure so much? She could see its tears frozen like crystals against its cheeks, the sparkle dazzling her for a moment like great little lights.
But she was here for a reason. And she would not be forgotten and frozen like these memories.
And so Rostym crossed her blades and dealt a terrible blow to cut it out of her life.
But much like her, her opponent would not go quietly. Its hooked blades hit her without mercy, much as she tried to defend it. What was that stained on the steel . . .?

They continued reaching out for him, grabbing him. He had to get free, he had to-

"Go back to where you came from," she told it, trying to reason with the figure. Could they not fight? Must it always end in their departure so violently?
It did not respond except for the flash of weapons.
It did not want to listen. Or perhaps she could not be heard . . .?
There was sorrow in its face and hers when they clashed one last time. But Rostym grieved both for it and herself, for being so fated as to have to fight and fight and fight for a chance at redemption. At divinity. At existence.
And this one did not. Its only fate was the shadows from whence it came.
The audience faded away along with it, leaving her alone with her own quiet melancholy.

Relentless, they continued grabbing him. Why wouldn't they let go?

She knew the platforms a little by now. In a way she knew what to expect, and yet this time her going had been much shorter before something tried to pull her down. Her dual swords sliced downwards, but it was no use-- she could get no purchase on something that crumbled away.
And she fell.
It was worse because Rostym anticipated the landing this time, hoped and prayed it would come again. It wasn't like the cliffs, where the fog gently took you in as you flew down . . .
The platform took her weight as she floated down, and there again were the little stars waiting to be plucked. Rostym took the center one this time, needing a little sun in her life to chase away the chill of the long dead's sorrow.
And then a hand was clamped over his mouth, startling him, and he struggled, prying it off his face as he gasped. What was WITH this fog?

What with all the grabbing and touching, it wasn't surprising that Kaje was now quite paranoid, even more so when he felt a pair of eyes on him, though unable to locate the source of it.
Finally snapping, he let out a frustrated cry, spinning around, trying to locate who it was. Perhaps the fog was starting to get to him.

From the desolation of the ruins to the open fog of the World's Edge, finding herself at the Spiral just seemed the proper end to a trip around their little known world. Everything came right around; this place was chaotic, it just hadn't rusted over yet. In time it probably would, but until then it was something mildly interesting to see. Her search bought her to what had probably been a path at some point, and curiousity told her to follow it.
The first few steps were okay, but as the fog rolled in something weird happened; the Marati she knew slipped away, leaving behind someone entirely different.

The favoured one continued her descent, her gaze always ahead of herself, moving ever towards the goal. The only reason she looked around was the shift in fog; an enemy, perhaps? Someone she could prove herself to? The form solidified and Mara grinned; yes, perfect, an opponent.
She lunged at it the second it lunged at her; she ducked a blow and deflected another, the opponent's sword scraping her skin as she lashed out with the spike in hand, making a jagged slice across the greyling's forearm.
