The scene in front of her was lively and joyful. Her friends were having a great time joking around and cheering on the dancers, and mostly everyone was smiling.

Except Xiu. Though she knew that she should be feeling the same happiness as the others, there was something wrong. Her head felt heavy--clouded--and there was a strange noise mixing with the loud music. A...a voice?

The baku lifted a hand and clutched at her head, her brows knitting together in confusion. The voice was quiet at first--too quiet to be heard over the memory that was playing out in her mind--but it grew increasingly louder with each second. Eventually, the voice drowned out the sound from her memories--all of a sudden, it was as if someone had muted the scene. Though the students' mouths were moving, indicating that they were talking to on another, no sound came from their lips. Similarly, many student continued to dance to the soundless tune that was playing.

The only thing that Xiu could hear was the voice. Whoever it was, they were yelling at her, demanding that she snap out of it. It? What was "it"? Though she knew that there was something wrong, a part of her kept tugging her back, encouraging her to return to the memory, to return home.

Home. The baku suddenly jolted to attention, her eyes widening. That was right--she wanted to go home, back to Amityville. But before she could do that, there were certain things that they had to take care of first. The Hunters. The phoenix. This memory, while pleasant, paled in comparison to the real Amityville and to her real friends.

Xiu pushed herself to her feet with a small grimace as her surroundings changed. The scene of the prom was gone, as was the fog...but the phoenix was still there, and it was headed for one of the portals.

After trying to get Mitsu to snap out of it, Shun heard some calls for help. Quickly, he looked up, noticing that the phoenix was flying for the portals. Cursing, he quickly summoned his daggers and vanished from his position. He reappeared near the phoenix to strike it, hopping from one spot to the next, slashing or stabbing the grey bird each time he did so, hoping to push it over towards the other side.

After a handful of times doing this, he reappeared near his wolf.

Once Kettil had been spotted, and Muka descended lower to the ground, Ev gave a soft sigh of relief. It slipped from her lips like a passing breeze, somewhat shaking due to the nerves that once again were starting to get on edge from all that'd been going on. Her arms carefully began to let go of the large owl's neck, body sliding off of his side at an eased pace. She winced softly, tender, burnt roots twitching and flinching in pain. The ghoul didn't know how she was going to navigate around here successfully in her condition. She'd hold back the small group of friends she'd managed to make. And that was just unacceptable. Her family taught her well that sometimes sacrifices were necessary to make for the good of the whole. Ev was very much feeling in such a predicament. It wasn't right of her to make them have to assist her in such a disabled state. Though... she'd already tried to reason with them earlier, and been stifled swiftly. She didn't want to offend them, but... the guilt was starting to grow.

As she tried to form some sort of decent support with her burnt roots, a sudden fog began to creep in and envelope her, making the ground... impossible to see. Eyes widening behind her constant mask, Ev gently gripped to Muka's side, using him as support once more as her tender, hurt roots touched some sort of surface very slowly. What was going on? She couldn't even see Kettil now who had been just a few paces away from her, nor Joachim who had been following underneath her and Muka as they flew over the masses. She called out to each of them softly, almost hesitantly as if she weren't supposed to speak. Everything was so quiet... It was unnerving in this circumstance. But a voice cut through all of the thick fog... followed by more... soft, and whispering against the shrouded air. It was so calming... so soothing, that the ghoul didn't even notice the searing pain in her roots, as she for what ever reason began to follow.

In doing so, pleasant thoughts and feelings began to swell within her, the stress that the last few days had brought suddenly vanishing, as if they were never there. It was a trance like state she was drawn into, shoulders relaxing, roots unfurling and waking her forward with fluid ease. Her mind was being filled with the sound of giggles, and hearty laughter. Followed by words of encouragement, and praise... her parents...

"You're such a smart ghoul, Evelyne-Aglaya~" her mother...

"You make us so proud~" her father...

their voices rang so true in her mind like they were right there with her.

"You have such beautiful eyes, sweetheart. Don't cover them. Let the world know your beauty~" it felt as though a hand had grazed her cheek, making a shiver nibble down her spine. That day... she remembered it so clearly. The Grand Bois' parents had always been such great guardians... they treated her well, and supported her in all she did. Even in her insecurity's they never fed into them, always assuring her that the jet black eyes, holding thin red circles for iris's weren't something to be embarrassed about. In truth, the mask she wore had been dawned upon being accepted into school. It was out of a concealed fear that she didn't want to be looked down upon, or avoided because of them. It was a safety precaution.

But now... she finally had friends. And they'd been with her through this entire terrible ordeal, even in the worst of states... they'd stood beside her. Just like her parents.

The draw of home was strong. Reiko didn't want to leave. She was happy, wrapped in the pull of the Insanity. It was...blissful.

It was better than being on that island, surrounded by Hunters that were trying to kill her, and surrounded by people who would forget she existed once the exchange was over. If she simply stayed here, wrapped in the Insanity, she could be home forever, home with okaa-san who loved her and accepted her and didn't mind her paranoias because okaa-san had the same ones, and without okaa-san's occasional rages and losses of temper and the throwing of things. Never at Reiko, but it was scary nonetheless. This was...this was better, because this was warm and welcoming and happy.

When it pulled away, she sank down, suddenly feeling very, very, very empty.

"No...no...don't leave me alone..." She whispered, reaching out for the fog. There were whispers, whispers in her mind. They said so much and so little and she couldn't understand a word of it.

The Phoenix was still there, but she shouldn't bother to attack. After all, she was weak. She was a drag on the group, pathetic, useless. And surely, surely in a moment she would be left alone by the others, because she was no fighter, she was a load, and she did not want to fight...

She could go see them again. Her mom. Her dad. All she had to do was to let herself be guided across, and then--

--No.

As much as her heart yearned to see her parents again, to do was asking the impossible. She had signed up for this with her own free will, and she intended on seeing her job through. Even with all the terrible things that happened--with all the death and close calls--Eva refused to just run away from all this, especially now that she had friends. Reine, Otto, Gale, Davey, Jude, Marcus--she had promised herself that she wouldn't let any of the people she cared about die, and she was going to keep that promise.

Eva jerked back, breaking through the memory that surrounded her. At once, she found herself back in the real world, a place where she was surrounded by friends, enemies...

And a really huge bird.

"STOP!" El Greco screamed as he covered his ears. "Stop talking to me."

The voices were difficult to understand. He didn't know how many voices there were. If they spoke fast or slow. If they even spoke his language. He didn't know if the voice was male or female. He didn't know. It was frustrating. Like a ringing in the ear that numbs everything else in the world.

The slimer didn't even notice the changes around. He didn't notice the other students. He didn't notice the hunters. He didn't notice how the fog of figures had disappeared or that the phoenix had reformed and was going towards one of the portals.

The slimer was preoccupied. He stumbled around as he tried to listen to the voices. He wanted to leave. He didn't want to go home, but he just wanted to disappear at the moment while the voices talked to him.

Sasha moved with desperation towards the portal that would take her home. The phoenix seemed to linger furiously near the Deus portal, and Sasha lashed out at the beast. Nona dug into the wispy mist, but despite the intangibility that the phoenix seemed to have, Sasha still felt a slight give and pull when she ripped Nona's hooks free.

The phoenix cried out in sorroful rage, immediately moving back, closer to the orange portal. Sasha gave a small, ruthless smile before she exhaled, turning around to see who was around. If she didn't see Jerry or Leon or Clerise or the others soon, she'd take it upon herself to look for them.

As Herryk stumbled to the portal, the phoenix was pushed back by someone next to the blue portal. With a grimace, Herryk drew his hands into fists, his Fear almost visibly rippling along his skin. He would not allow this bird to…

Slowly the Fear dissipated; Herryk did not swing. His gaze turned glassy as he stood there with clenched fists, mouth open just the slightest. Lost in his thoughts, deep in conversation with a voice that did not belong there amidst his thoughts and memories.

An intruder. A dear friend. A bitter paranoia. A soft-spoken encouragement. All of these things, at war with one another.

When he snapped to, the bird was gone.

The bird was heading for their portal.

Heading for their HOME.

He charged, leapt and swung at it, Tracey going well wide of the mark. Apparently he wasn't best suited to attacking flying creatures. Something he probably should have known.

Defeated, he crashed back to the ground.

Guess he'd have to leave it up to the people who could actually ******** fight. The people who weren't just useless baggage weighing down the organisation, people who didn't always have to have other people save their a**.

It was hard to get back up again. Tracey felt somehow heavier.

Why was he so weak?

Deryk was a little dazed from whatever just happened, but he soon heard someone shouting something. Looking towards the portals, his eyes quickly widened.

"AAH! NO! STAY AWAY!" he cried out while running towards the bird. He didn't want that on the island!

Biting his lip for the moment, he ran full blast before jumping up into the air and making a swipe at the creature. The tip of Tooley just barely poked into it. Did it help at all? He had no f'ing clue.

Ulmuka knew he couldn't let that phoenix go. Amityville was the only thing that made him happy. It was the only place ever in his life to accept him. The only friends he'd ever had were made there. Halloween as a whole was precious to him and he couldn't even process, in his odd bird brain, what it would be like to see it destroyed as he had the gorgeous islands of the horseman.

Ulmuka concentrated his FEAR into his talons and took off towards the phoenix, striking out.

It was so warm here.

But Otto knew it was wrong.

He'd been through this once before.

Tenya's voice ripped through the vision, helping Otto out of his stupor. He cursed shakily under his breath. He felt.. strange. Paranoid, overly sensitive. Voices whispered in his head that weren't Tenya, causing a sense of unrest within the teenager.

He shook his head, trying to focus on the task at hand. That giant insanity bird was trying to go through the portal. Obviously he needed to help prevent it.

While Israfel had never done well when talking about home. Home was a terrible place. Filled with threats and mockings and general unpleasantness. He had left and simply never returned. The school had become his home and he rather liked it. Now- to go home. He would enjoy that though there were other things. His name in the wind was what drew him from that warm embrace of insanity. Lucien, Shehk, Sammy, Riley- they had to go. He had left them hadn't he? No- no he had to go back. They would become sad should he vanish. Lucien would be so upset as well.

Opening his eyes, Israfel looked at the portals. Home was not far but- Shehk. Riley. They could not be left behind. "Shehk." Israfel went to he wings touching her back. "We need to go. We can't stay here." A look at the friend turned to stone. "Neither can she."

It was so warm and happy here, but when Arynek looked at her hands, she felt something weird.

Is her hands so small?

"Arynek........Arynek........wake up......" Someone was calling her, but the voice was hardly heard, it was so weak and vague.

"Skugga, what's wrong?" One of her uchitels asked.

"Nothing" Arynek paused a little. "Nothing's wrong..." She replied with an odd doubt in heart.

When the shadow ghoul opened the gift that her uchitels brought her - a set of hair clips which was simple but lovely, she heard the feeble voice again.

"Wak.....wa...ke up......Ary....nek......" It was that voice again! Where did it come from?

"Skugga?" Another uchitel called.

Arynek turned around and saw her uchitels smiling. "I hear a voice........a voice telling me to wake up..." She said.

One of her uchitels came near her and rubbed her hair. "Wake up? Are you dreaming, Skugga?" He chuckled.

Dreaming? Am I......? Why the smiles of uchitels seem so warm but distant? Why I have the feeling that I shouldn't be here?.........Why?

"Arynek........wake.....wake....up" The voice came again. It was weak but persistent. Arynek felt the familiarity from the voice, her head hurt.

Why? Why I have to wake up? Here's home, here's so warm!

"Wake.....wak...e...up" Arynek could feel the urgent tone in the voice. She knew she had to wake up but here's so good, she didn't want to leave the warmness.

She turned and looked at her uchitels, her uchitels were smiling tenderly.

"Why are you crying, Skugga?" Her uchitel wiped away her tears gently.

"I don't know.....I don't know....I should be happy.....it's my birthday...." She covered her eyes with her hands. "I should be happy.....but I am so sad.....so strange......can't stop my tears...." Arynek sobbed.

One of her uchitels walked to her and gave her a hug. "Stupid ghoul. If you have something to do, go ahead, don't hesitate." He said while petting her back to comfort the little ghoul.

Another uchitel came and hugged the two. "Yep, you just need to know we are always here, waiting for you to come back" He smiled while hugging the two tightly, as if giving Arynek more courage.

After the warm hug, the two turned her around and made a slight pat on her back. "Go, Skugga. They are waiting for you. They need you." Arynek heard their voices from her back.

Arynek took a deep breathe and walked towards the light, which was supposed to be the door. She stepped out of the door, with the dazzling white light that made she closed her eyes.

When she opend her eyes again, she found herself in the battlefield, the ruins of Four Clans. Tears were dried on her face. She could see students and those humans.............and the Phoenix, which was still crying in misery.

"Have to stop it from going into Amityville!" A familiar voice yelled.
