And yet Gaia had creatures who were created to tempt other creatures, which tended to work or not work depending. Her mother called it balance, her father called it chaos, it was probably both. Though it seemed Earendil was worried about the wrong thing.

Lin shook her head and took his hand, "Earendil, I have no issue in what you believe about the gnomes, the gnomes and other creatures of Melkor were created without true sentient intelligence, they are intelligent yes, but not enough self awareness to be aware of what even they might consider right or wrong, they just are. It's the dwarfs I feel sorry for, they are despite being a mistake are sentient creatures, but they have no soul. They never asked to be created, but they are... and their self awareness is their blessing and maybe a bit of their curse, to know you have no soul must be a hard thing."

Of course Lin didn't know what would happen to her if she died, it had never occured to her. Who knew, maybe she would go to some paradise, maybe she would pop out of some other vase.

"And... besides that, you're trying too hard. I can't pretend to understand everything about how everyone else interacts in this world, but I can respect enough that, that is simply the way things are."

If she hadn't, she wouldn't still be here. It took a sort of resignation to realize the world you felt the most belonging in the most, was the one wehre you'd be alone for the rest of your life.

Well... almost.

Earendil smiled softly, listening to Lin's explanation. He felt a sense of relief, knowing that she at least understood where he was coming from. He was well aware of the fact that she had taken his hand, and he squeezed hers tightly to let her know that he understood what she was saying.

"I wish I could help you to understand about the dwarfs," he said softly, gazing down at her warmly, "but I just don't know how to communicate my thoughts well enough. I am sure that Aragost would know, though. Would be able to explain it to you."

He chuckled sheepishly and ran his other hand through his hair. "And you're probably right, I probably am trying too hard. I just like people to understand my reasoning, I guess."

He was tempted to add that he wanted her to understand more than anyone else, but he didn't. It wouldn't help the situation any, and it would just make things awkward. He wasn't even sure if he should tell her that he had once thought much like his father, or that it had been her - a very long time ago, when they had both been very young - who had changed his mind.

"That's all right, I know that you wouldn't like to be misunderstood," Lin replied, "Esepecially between the two of us. Except for times like these, it's almost easy to forget we come from different worlds."

After six years (which was technically half her life) here in this world Lin had become more comfortable with it than she had ever been in the whole time she had been going back and forth. When she began, she was merely comfortable with the fact she could relate to people here better than with her own peers back home, but she still liked certain Gaian things like indoor pumbling and eletircity.

Earendil was about to speak, but he hesitated. She was right in every aspect: he didn't want misunderstandings between them especially, and it was quite easy to forget that she was from a different world. He would add only one thing: that it was also easy to forget that she was even of a different race. Wings and height notwithstanding, she was as elvish as they came. Smart, active, intellectual, linguistic, and she had an excellent set of morals. There were times when he felt he had more in common with her than with most of the people of his own world.

Without realizing it, he felt his face warming up. He tried to stop it, but the more he tried, the hotter it got. He had to say something, but what to say?

"So ... would Celeborn be in this area?" he asked finally, looking around. They were surrounded by trees, and the birds were singing cheerfully in the branches. The sun was bright, but the canopy shaded them, and so it wasn't quite hot, despite it being summer.

It was perhaps most fortunate for Earendil that Lin was not looking at his face at the moment. Otherwise she would have questioned by he was slightly blushing. Instead she was focused on looking around, as well as trying to reach her other senses out.

Lin didn't know why she bothered, being around elves had made her desensized to magic. She couldn't sense another magical being unless they were right in front of her or she was in Gaia, it didn't help elves made no noise while walking. Scanning the trees for any sign of the blond elf, Lin didn't see anythign.

"He is.... but I don't see him, which isn't that surprising," Lin murmured, "It's one of the reasons why its easiest to find them before or after their shift."

Miyuki noticed she looked up at Earendil blinking at him curiously she had never seen anything colour before. Earendil was so lucky even stage growing babies had limited memories.

"And of course, I'm useless in that regard," Earendil chuckled, calming somewhat. He smiled at Miyuki and poked her nose gently. "I've only been in forests to map them, I don't really know much about tracking in them."

But there was no need for them to track: not that they knew it. For they were the ones being followed, followed by someone who was both intrigued and amused by the three of them. Lin, with a baby, and an elf with whom she seemed quite cozy, walking like that, hand in hand with him ...

Miyuki twitched her nose and almost became cross eyed trying to look at his finger or her nose. The fluttering of wings caught her attention, which wasn't hard as babies tended to have short attention spans to begin with.

"Ahhhhh!" she waved up a hand.

It was only at Miyuki's exclaimation that Lin realized she had been tuning out again, or rather tuning them out. She hadn't noticed, honestly she hadn't as they were slow to gather this time, maybe a testament to how her abilites were growing.

Or just luck, it was hard to tell sometimes. They fluttered past her and sometimes landed on her. Though when one began to land of Miyuki, Lin let go of Earendil's hand to shoo it away, and to use both hands to grab Miyuki's hands.

"Don't eat them!"

Earendil laughed heartily, his embarrassment fading away finally. "Why don't you let me take Miyuki, and then you don't have to worry so much about her and the butterflies," he chuckled, holding her hands out to her. "It's better than her eating them."

Which, as he recalled, someone had brought up at one point or another.

"Please," Lin sighed taking Miyuki out of her carrier and handing her off to Earendil, "I really do wish I could control them better, but this will have to do."

What else could she do until Miyuki was old enough to understand the term do not eat.

Miyuki for her part was waving her arms out trying to catch one of the poor flutter byes.

"Perhaps someday," Earendil soothed her, taking Miyuki and holding her so that she couldn't reach the butterflies. "But they go away if you listen to them, right? Maybe if you listen to them, then ..."

Though if they hadn't been able to find Celeborn before, they certainly would make no progress now. Lin was the only one who knew her way around here, so Earendil would be no help.

Or perhaps things would be made a bit easier.

"Looking for me?" Celeborn asked, stepping out from behind a tree. His white-blond hair was pulled back in a ponytail, his violet eyes shimmering with amusement. He grinned, and the black rose tattoo on his neck stretched a bit.

Earendil stared at him. "If you're Celeborn," he replied.

Lin turned, it was very easy to recongize Celeborn on sight, of course the man made himself easy to spot.

"Celeborn! We were looking for you," Lin exclaimed happily completely ignoring the fact she was now accessorizing butterflies.

She was so glad he had found them.

Celeborn chuckled. "Indeed. I was wondering when you were going to get to me. I know there are a lot of people here for you to visit, Lin, but really." He huffed, teasing her. "As leader of the guards, I ought to have some special consideration, oughtn't I?"

Earendil laughed softly. "It seems Lin is loved wherever she goes," he quipped.

Celeborn grinned. "I should say so, she's been a part of this ranch since it began! I tell you, I shall never forget the day that she, half as tall as my arm is long, looked up at Elros and started asking questions as if she owned the place." He laughed heartily.

Now it was Lin's turn to blush, she did remember how much she lacked in tact.

"I was little and I was curious," she protested.

She didn't wonder how he had heard of that story, like everything else in Haven, it spreaded quickly.

Earendil chuckled. "That sounds about right," he grinned. "Goes along with stalking my father, and staring contests with the guards."

Celeborn tilted his head at Earendil. "You wouldn't happen to be Daeron's brother, would you?" he asked curiously.

Earendil was delighted. "You know my brother?"

"Good man," the fighter grinned. "Good fighter. And it's a bit of a personal fight for him. He's a bit of a legend around here, you should ask Haradhel to show you the children's book collection when you have a chance."

Did he have to bring that up, she blushed more and kind of wished the butterflies would cover her up. While she watched the two talk she managed to calm down a bit, honestly it was a long time ago. She shouldn't be so worked up over it.

"Adonai made a book about Daeron's own escape and return if I remember," Lin murmured, "Back then though I couldn't read the book."

It was Elvish and back then she was just learning, that seemed like a really long time ago. Actually it was.
