Lin nodded at this not wanting to be caught out in something like that. She wondered if weather everywhere in the Four Lands was extreme. This place had wind storms, there were sandstorms in both here and the Eastland. The Borderlands had their feets of snow and violent storms....

"Everywhere it seems to have very violent weather every once in a while," Lin murmured.

Home didn't have that, sure you didn't want to get caught in a thunderstorm where there was a catch you could get struck by lightening, but it never flooded with rain or snow. They had hail but not huge pieces.... and certainly no wind storms.

"In Tor Karad, we never have anything but sunshine," Earendil offered with a grin.

"Sure," Kaito argued, "but even that's extreme. Mother told me once that Storm got sunstroke when he was little. And the heat never bothers him!"

"It's not the sunshine that's extreme, it's the amount of heat that it gives," Lin murmured, "Without clouds Tor Karad gets all the sun, and the sand is so light it bounces the light and heat back into the air."

She learned that much about sand, no wonder why it was so hot there, she wondered if it would be somewhat cooler once the trees and things came back. For it to be green it has to have more water.

"Even Gaia can have heat waves, but.... with all the rain we've had this past summer there hasn't been a chance for it to get really hot."

Kaito shook his head. "It's more than just that," he murmured. "The entire Eastland and Southland are both desert ... but the heat varies. And not just in relation to how close it is to water. The city isn't nearly as hot as the desert proper, but even the desert isn't nearly as hot as New Kaliningrad."

He looked up at the sky. "I bet Shiro would be able to explain more of it."

"Yes, I know but what I mean is.... even at home we get heat waves. It can get really hot, which is probably only as extreme as any weather as we're going to get," she added in a murmur, "Anyhow Storm was really little, he hadn't even had his first summer yet, we were I think in fall at the time, and.. he was wearing a turtle neck, that just made it worse. I think he learn to at least not wear as thick of a turtleneck during the summer."

She looked up at the sky with Kaito for a moment before looking back ahead of her. She really had to stop digressing from her original thoughts it kept confusing people she decided.

"But it is hotter here than any heat wave we can get at home, and the Eastland is even hotter."

Earendil nodded thoughtfully. "Well, who knows what kind of weather we'll end up having once we go on our major trip?" he questioned rhetorically. "Obviously there are other lands out there, that's where Nako and her family came from ... but who knows what it's like there?"

Unfortunately, Serenity rarely showed face in the Southland, and so it was not likely that they would have the opportunity to ask her any time in the near future.

"Prepare for anything," Lin murmured.

For all she knew they could end up in a place hotter than the Eastland, or they could end up in a place that was really humid or a place that was really cold. Who knew... maybe there was a place out there that rained ice balls.

"Hot and cold weather and things in between is all one can do."

"Exactly," Earendil nodded grimly. "It will all be new experiences for all of us. With the possible slight exception of Roydon and Arwen and Leyenca, since of course they're all quite familiar with boats. Ships, sorry. Ships." He grinned. Leyenda had been very particular about mixing up boats and ships.

Aranel was looking south again. "Well, it looks like the storm might not be coming after all," he murmured softly. "The cloud is getting smaller ..."

"That's good," Kaito commented. "Right?"

Ships but not the possible environments they could come across Lin added silently as she looked to the south. Aranel was right the cloud had gotten smaller... which she supposed was a good sign.

"I don't know," Lin admitted.

She knew that the Eastland was cloudless and had sandstorms of it was possible here too right? Then again Lin couldn't ever recall being here and seeing a sandstorm, well at least at the capital.

A few hours later, the landscape was much the same as the landscape they had already passed. The lone cloud was gone entirely by this time, and the sun was higher in the sky. Everyone was chatting together contentedly, when suddenly Regan pointed ahead of them and squealed, "A'sat, Nana? A'sat?"

Tinuviel blinked and squinted off into the distance. There, almost beyond even her elven sight, was a small shadow, indistinguishable from being so far away. "I'm not sure," she murmured, raising one hand to her brow to block the sunlight. "Aranel?"

Aranel mimicked her movement and peered intensely at the shadow. "I ... am not sure," he admitted slowly. "Any guesses?"

"I can't see," Lin admitted.

She was only human after all and did not have the far reaching sight of the elves. So while an elf was straining to see far away beyond what they could see, someone like Lin couldn't see at all.

"Earendil, what is everyone seeing?" she asked him.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 12, 2009 6:33 pm

Earendil squinted into the sun. "A ... speck on the horizon?" he said slowly.

Kaito blinked. "Can it get any more cliche?" he quipped. "Next thing you know it's going to be bandits on their way to their hideout with a bagful of loot."

Aranel turned to Kaito and blinked. "What?"

"Someone has been reading a 1001 Arabian Nights," Lin replied back and then deciding rather than to confuse Aranel anymore she then explained, "Kaito I think was making a reference to a story, or rather a story type where there are bandits who have a hide out in the middle of nowhere that has all their loot."

Granted she had only heard of one version, but the tale had been so popular that now it was probably a cliche story type. She giggled at that and then added.

"At least we're pretty sure it's not someone on a camel's back."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 12, 2009 6:57 pm

Kaito laughed. "Let's hope not."

Aranel looked curious. "Camel?"

Kaito smiled at him. "The camel, camelus dromedarius, is a tall two-toed creature with one hump on its back, used for riding through the desert rather than horses. Their large feet keep them from sinking in the sand, and they can go for a few days without water."

Earendil arched one eyebrow at Kaito. "I think you've been spending too much time with Shiro," he murmured.

"I think Kaito has always had that sort of memory ability," Lin murmured.

It was hard to tell at times because the two were different, but Lin was sure it was just because Kaito was more feral than his brother the reason why most people couldn't tell exactly how alike they were. It didn't help they were physically different they were twins.

She then laughed, "Besides Aranel asked."

It was just Kaito gave a very throughout answer.

"So back to the question at hand, can anyone see what it is yet?"
