[[*bows* thanks Rhm!]]
Lexi nodded as Alex got Gerard to back off of Gabrielle. Seeing the strange man not reacting badly, and Gerard putting his gun down lessened Lexi’s tension by quite a bit. They might actually be able to walk away from this after all. She followed Gerard with her eyes as he went back to the bikes, but took a last look at Santa before following him with the rest of her body, Rex following eventually with Alex. She felt like she should say something—after all, they had threatened him, and the last thing they needed was an Exterminant weapon holding a grudge that was actually based in truth—but she lacked the words. All the friendly goodbyes she knew contained hopes that she did not feel with the strange man. She did hope to see him again, but only to find out how/why he was creating that black hole in the ether field. Otherwise, she could do without crossing paths with him again, especially since next time he might actually be intent on hurting them.
When she got back to the clearing, she saw her bird pokemon either wreaking havoc or giving rides to the oddish Terrian had left behind. She couldn’t quite tell if the grass-types in question were having fun being flown around the clearing or not. Whichever it was, it would have to stop for them to head out. “Phoenix, put that down and apologize if you need to: we’re heading out.” The spearow listened, and actually put the oddish down reasonably gently, but squawked her complaints of boredom and hunger, and snapped at Lexi’s ears as the girl shut down her computer, put it back in her backpack, and walked over to the bikes. Lexi was rather happy when donning her helmet again brought relief. “Hey, not everywhere is interesting.” She said quietly to her pokemon, who was now sitting on her shoulder again “I needed you away from the weird guy in case he tried something and succeeded…could you feel how he was messing with the area?” The bird didn’t give her a clear answer, but settled down into her usual spot behind the bike’s windshield with no more cawing. “Thanks for standing guard there Rex.” She said as the houndour came into the clearing, before recalling him to his pokeball for the ride.
As she mounted her bike she finally let the shiver she had been holding onto go through her body. A lot had just happened, and all of it was at least odd as hell, if not unheard of entirely. There was going to be a lot of junk in her head for her to play with the rest of the ride, and she was already wondering about how she was going to sleep tonight. At least they hadn’t gotten into another fight…

((Cinders, it was my full intent to post this weekend. Unfortunately, time constraints kept that from happening. Admittedly, one of those was a three-hour Bollywood movie that involved a tractor fight and sliding a horse under an 18-wheeler as though it was a motorcycle. I feel like it was an equivalent trade - the name of the movie is "Alluda Majaka."
The other reasons were more legit.
Sincere apologies for the delay. I'll see you all on Friday, assuming I live through this week biggrin ))

Juno listened to Paul and let him face the other two while they had their little "chat." Finally I'm getting something out of him.
Now fortunately for Paul, Juno was not like all the other children for a reason: she was not as well informed as the other children. She did not know who Terrian or Beati were since they hadn't deigned to talk to her. She had no idea that what they wanted was for her to complete/stop her mission. If she had, then perhaps she'd have realized what they wanted out of Paul and therefore what Paul wanted out of her. Unfortunately, that meant Paul had to deal with her most prominent character trait (at least when it came to him): her paranoia and distrust.
"Uh-huh. Mmkay. So you have a doctor and a religious man ask you to find me? That seems a bit odd. It's even odder for you to listen - are either of them holding something against you?" He wasn't getting paid - nobody would work that hard to keep someone alive for money. What if he has family? It was possible that his family was being held hostage (if he had family) to get to her. We'll get back to that in a minute. She rubbed her eyes. "But the real question now is who will you listen to? You gonna protect me while I do what I have to or are you going to give me to this Reverend?" Beatitude...is that even a name?
She then crossed her arms. "Here's another idea. Why don't you take the new guy and I ride with Willam? Alienating our ally is the best way to turn him into an enemy and we could use all the help we can get. Also, the man is much bigger than Willam. You want him to get overpowered? If he rides with you, then he has a harder time of overpowering you on the bike. The weapons can stay with me." Before he could even mention the possibility, she continued, "and don't think about the possibility of Willam trying to overpower me. I can't beat you in a fight, but I sure as hell can take on him."
----
Alex was the last to leave for the bikes. Before she joined the others, she gave a tiny smile and wave to Santa. "Goodbye. May you live a happy life."
As she walked behind the others, she started trembling. Oh my God. Or Mew. No wait, I'm not Exterminant anymore, so I should probably say God. Anyway. Oh my God. She was terrified. She was relieved. She was confused.
This is odd. I'm not usually so moody. What was causing her to jump from one emotion to another? Last time I was this jumpy was when I ran out of--OHHHHHH. She was going through withdrawal issues. This will not be good. This explains the snappiness from the broken laws of science. The utter fear that followed. The need to calm the others. I am too unbalanced.
Well at least she knew what was wrong with her now. Okay. I just need to work on the solution. Until I find a doctor to help me get into a rehab facility, I need to remember to stay calm. She would also need to watch out for Gerard. It seemed like he was going to turn into a sociopathic serial killer if she didn't keep an eye on him.
This was going to be a very very difficult/frustrating ride.

"No hostages," Paul told Juno. "They told me..." Paul hesitated. How much to spill? She deserved to know, but deserved and ought were two strikingly different things. Paul considered the consequences. All he would be telling her was that she was very important somehow. Possibly to the world as a whole. A good explanation, really, for his motivation. The whole truth, neglecting only critical details about his own plans. If those were his plans.
"They told me you might be critical to the world," Paul told her. He still held back the genetic modification. That was hearsay, anyway - Paul had no reason to believe it for sure. And... it seemed improbable. On this girl? He didn't know much about her, but... she seemed normal enough. "I've been more or less manipulated into my own situation, and so I'm hoping to get some answers. I imagine protecting you like Dr. Terrian asked will help with that. I imagine you could get much the same, but I don't know. I'm... very confused about the whole affair, honestly.
"And, uh... I'd just as soon not have you riding with Willam," Paul added, hesitantly. "I mean... he tried to kill me. He's dangerous to us. He's here as a meat shield, and he knows it. I'd hesitate to bring him along for anything, but right now the two of us have the upper hand on him. Putting the stranger with him, disarming him... makes it a bit safer for us, frankly."

Oh. Well then. Critical to saving the world. "That's...new." She rubbed the back of her head. "I knew what I was doing was important, but on a world scale? That's...new." She didn't forget the fact that he'd neglected to tell whether he was truly handing her over to Beatitude. I'll deal with it when we get there I guess. At least I know that he's not out to kill me. That's better than nothing.
"Okay. Thanks for telling me all this. As for Willam," she paused. "I suppose I will ride with you." She didn't like how Willam was getting the short end of the stick, but if the boy had tried killing Paul, then he was indeed a threat. Paul was many things but a liar was not one of those things. "But before we go, I still need to hear about the geezer and kid that this new guy mentioned." He'd been open to her about his motives; she'd return the favor. "I'm out looking for someone who lives in Riverdale. Dr. Bogdan. If he's gone out of the city then there's no point in going. And if this man ran into him, then I need to know what happened in their meeting. We ran into assassins...maybe Dr. Bogdan did as well." Was that extremely paranoid of her? Yes. Did that make her wrong? No - the possibility was still there. It's not paranoia if someone's out to get you, right?

((Please welcome Enradus, playing Lorenzo Guiser, and welcome back Xitemo, still playing Thomas Rikes! *claps* Good to have you (back).))
Willam and Marcus exchanged glances as they were spoken over. In all honesty, they were aware that they were effectively items in this affair, even though Willam seemed to accept that that was simply how human interaction worked. He'd've preferred things to be more clearly reversed, but he'd engineer that situation soon enough.
"Like hell am I ri-" Willam started to say, before the other two simply turned their backs on him. Well, fine, then. He could use a back-up host if these two crapped out on him. Beginning to like his new plan more and more, he leered at Marcus. But he couldn't - not like he usually could. The man... well... he was a big, dirty, muscular, man! Alone and beat up by a geezer in an abandoned stretch of highway. Having lived underground for many more months than originally intended, Willam didn't like open spaces and he didn't like big, dirty people.
"Look, punk," Marcus began.
"Who're you calling a punk?" the boy hissed.
"You, sneasel-bait. I know you're an accessory and you know I'm baggage, so get any filthy ideas out of your head and drive the God damn bike when they get back over here. All I want's a ride." His features were dark and clouded as he spoke. "I've had a bad f***ing day."
When Juno and Paul finally returned, Marcus informed them that yes, in fact, it had been Bogdan whom he'd encountered. He requested a ride to Riverdale, as he'd asked for originally, and neither asked questions nor offered any sort of resistance or story. Willam, cowed for the moment, shot the two of them a dirty look and kept his mouth shut.
---
The other three children, finally freed of the ethereal inanity that had entangled them for a few moments, went on their way, leaving Gabriel to do as he would in their wake. The rest of the ride to Glenville was decidedly uneventful. The late afternoon sun was setting into early evening, so the air was filled with a kind of calm, peaceful darkness, giving the young-uns time to settle their thoughts on the ride.
Upon arriving in Glenville, they were checked by the guard and allowed inside, then swiftly ushered to the Oaks' laboratories, where they had a few seconds to see Thomas Rikes and Dr. Andrej Bogdan seated with a glass of soda and water, respectively, before Nayana presciently intercepted them, very nearly physically booted the Protectors who had taken them that direction out of her way, and dragged them (in a mothering fashion) by the napes of their necks away from the Oaks' office. Ulysses had the opportunity of seeing four helplessly bewildered teenagers and a man roughly his age being shoved by a (now-familiar) large, black woman down a hallway. They were soon seated in front of a table with dishes of vegetable casserole, macaroni and cheese, and a small bit of fried chicken. As Nayana served them, she cheerily chatted at them, updating them on how Glenville had fared after the attack, telling Gerard that his parents would be pleased as pigs to see him, introducing Alex and Lexi to the laboratory, and asking if there was anything more they needed or wanted because Lawd in Heaven she could not understand why these white-coated, googly-eyed professors needed to send children out on missions when they was wild pokémon and wild people all trampin' about in the middle of everyone's business and look at the three of them, not a one older than twenty-one if she could trust her agin' eyesight and they didn't even have a bodyguard "Now hold on just a moment," she said, pausing without seeming out of breath and staring down Gerard across the glass of cold milk she was handing him. "Gerard, I b'lieve I heard Mr. Thatcher was watchin' your back on your way out; what in the good graces of God happened to him?" Her face, though it had been shining and maternal, grew taught.
Next to their table, sitting quietly by himself, sat a young man in a dark brown coat, blue jeans, and a plain, white tee shirt. This was Lorenzo Guiser, and by him on the floor sat a vulpix. The red fox's shining, black eyes regarded the newcomers curiously. It sneezed ones, releasing a gossamer haze of pollen; this creature had been modified, like the other children's, but in this case had been given the oddly contrasting latent third type of grass.
---
Maddy was likely unsurprised to see the barrel of a shotgun pointing almost directly at her own. This was the issue with a lack of subtlety. "Who are you and what the f*** do you want? I just took on the Exterminant and won; don't you f***ing mess with me." Vivian was in pain and sagging as she held her weapon, clearly nearing exhaustion, but her trigger finger was still steady. As she stared Maddy down, Vivian's featured took on a look of respect. Even in these times, it wasn't often one found a woman as a long wolf, holding her own gun. Maybe... "Hey, if you drop your gun, I'll drop mine - I don't need more scraps today and 'sides, if you screw me over..." she smirked, thinking of the pokémon in her pocket. "I'll still Shiv ya."
((One (1) person has submitted a profile for Vivian Ross. Applications will be accepted for one week; a decision will be made next Monday.))
---
Luckily for Abraham, the source of the dizziness was quickly identified - apparently invisible to the others, one Dr. Alex Terrian - in a charcoal shirt, pitch jeans, onyx shoes, and an unforgettable, sable hat - waved cheerily at the engineer from a few feet away. "Hi! Abe, right? Right. I think I know what you're up to. Don't worry; I didn't poison you. Nothing did." Abe would notice that there was in fact nothing in his neck; it was merely an illusion. "The Exterminant doesn't like to get to close to the Oblivion. Bad juju. They'll be here in like... ten minutes. Mostly because they expected him to win. Then it didn't. 'cuz Elian's a beast." The words flew out of his mouth almost like Morse code; in starts and stops that seemed to mean his thoughts were flowing too quickly for his mouth.
"They'll sweep the area with electronics first, though, so get a read on that. I'm gonna go work on breaking in ethereally, but I think you'll find it all leads back to Beatrice. She knew everything." The dizziness began to fade. "I'll tell you what I find. For now..." He gestured, and an explosion a hundred yards away drew everyone's attention that direction. When they looked back, Solomon was whole again. Terrian grinned as he saw Richard's flustered reaction. "I love screwing with people, y'know? 'specially guys like him. Teaches a man never to lock up his psychic pokémon. Anyway, what I was saying. For now, head on back, go with the flow, see what the Oak brothers say. I know the Howards'd know a lot, but... theeeeey're not really up for having anything to do with this mess right now. Got enough on their hands."
And with that, he was gone. Richard had come to grips with Solomon's return, released David to keep him contained, and positioned the former in his lap and the latter on his shoulders. Everyone was prepared to go back.
---
"You." Terrian appeared in front of Gabriel where he had been left, with the mewtwo standing threateningly at his side. Even encased in darkness, the man could feel the impressive and imposing presence of the violet and ivory pokémon. "You're not as crazy as you think. That's not what happens. How do I know? Because the Oracle isn't insane, either. Yes, you were a child, but that is no excuse for this.
"Now, I don't know your game. Not all of it. For now, though..." The mewtwo held up a quivering hand, palm out, and placed it on Gabriel's forehead. The boy/man felt the little energy he had left be sapped from him. "We can contain this for long enough for you to be useful, for yourself and the rest of the world, by not making yourself out to be yet another god in this world. You have enough energy left to make it to Glenville." The mewtwo backed off, sweating and pulsing with a chaotic glow, but maintaining his gaze. "Get there, and help the professors. Or I kill you." Yet again, the good doctor vanished with a pop.
((Little bit of an interlude here while everyone gets gathered up. I know there's a little god-mode-shepherding I'm doing, but we're about to enter chapter 3 biggrin it's worth it.))

Gerard tensed up when he felt Nayana behind him, but before he could make a move he realized that his nerves were simply too high-strung from his time on the road. To that realization, he guilty let himself be dragged along to the dining room, too wrapped up in his realization that he had lost something on that trip to object. When placed in front of the food, he dug in silently but with gusto.
When the question was posed to him, Gerard took the opportunity to reign in his eating (he had already polished off a full plate of macaroni and cheese with vegetable casserole mixed in, as well as a piece of chicken) and wipe his mouth soberly. "Mr. Thatcher met with some trouble on the road. A rabid pinsir attacked him when we stopped and he was pretty badly wounded." He held up a consoling hand when Nayana drew in a huge deep breath that would likely be followed by more "OH Lawdy Lawd!"s and "Goodness gracious!"es. "I fought the pinsir off - well, actually I killed it, but it was a spur-of-the-moment type thing and I was protecting Thatcher and Lexi. Either way, we left Thatcher with the Howards, and they're taking good care of him."
He didn't make any mention of it, but he was silently very glad that his family was still safe. He had been terribly worried about them when he had left.

Ulysses made himself useful as best he could, helping set the table for the guests and such. He'd been setting down the final set of dinnerware when the children arrived, as if on cue.
Then Nayana was gabbing away and Shonevsky let a small smile slip through. He let her run off at the mouth for awhile, and when she seemed to pause momentarily, he stepped in, putting his hands on her shoulders. "Come on, now, let's give them some time to breathe and relax. We can play twenty questions when their bellies are full and their minds are refreshed." With a firm grip, he led her away from the children to the kitchen.
"Here, for you." He proffered Nayana one of the two surviving flowers from Beatrice's porch. "I'm no horticulturist, so I think you might find out its secrets easier than this old man. And they seem to have a... revitalizing effect. Every man and woman over fifty ought to have one of these on them every waking hour. Why I ran from Beatrice's house all the way back, and barely broke a sweat- and no pain, either. Hopefully it'll be as helpful to you as it has been to me- Lord knows you need it more than I do." Then he left her side, returning to the dining area to sit at a table near the children's with a glass of water. He watched silently and with a small smile.
Gloria had been as stoic as ever during all these events, but as the children settled into their meals, found her way to sit beside Gerard. His principles were powerful, and his will was mighty, and this was alluring to the ninetales- similar traits were what first drew her to Ulysses all those years ago. She eyed them all silently, but as unobtrusively as those burning red eyes possibly could.

Gerard remained more controlled after having spoken, finishing off the little remaining on his plate and sipping water after that as he allowed himself to relax. He was far too tense.
He watched the two girls as they ate and couldn't help but smile to himself. Lexi, who he had managed to protect through this whole journey, was back safely and eating a big meal; he hadn't exactly pictured what success would look like when he had decided to protect her, but this was pretty much his ideal. And Alex, bless her, was digging into the food like she hadn't seen anything like it in years. With a twinge of sympathy, Gerard realized she probably hadn't.
He felt a presence to his right and looked over to find an ivory ninetales regarding him with its red eyes. He looked at it evenly for a few seconds before extending a hand and rubbing the side of its snout lightly. Doing so made the hairs on his arm stand on end, though it was pleasant. On a whim, Gerard reached down to his belt and released Justice, allowing the larvitar to munch on his chicken and interact with Gloria.

(*bow* Hello.)
Lorenzo Guiser sat at the table adjacent to those talking some distance away, propping his feet up on the table and leaning back a bit. Flora, the Vulpix accompanying him, had been sitting next to him and sneezed a green wisp. His face scrunched up slightly.
"Well, that can't be good."
He stopped leaning and bent down to see what it was that was bugging her.
"Let's see what the damage is."
He gave her a look and patted his lap, signalling her to jump into his lap. Flora growled in her throat, but did it anyway. He rubbed the sides of her face, looking into her eys to see if there was any redness.
"Hmm, you seem fine. Still ticklish?"
He dragged his fingertips lightly upward across Flora's stomach. She felt a delightful tingle flow through her body that resulted in a short euphoria that, when ended, made her bite his hand. Lorenzo let out a short yelp.
"Mmm. Stiiiiill ticklish."
Flora let out another growl.
"Now what's your deal? You just BIT me, ya little fart, that always calms you down."
He turned his head around to see the deal behind him, a red-eyed Ninetales.
"OOOOooohh. I thought we were over this. You grow up at your own pace..."

[[Hello]]
Lexi followed her leaders in a daze through the city she had once taken day trips to, but hadn’t seen since the calamity. The place had changed considerably since she was young, and the signs of a battle were evident everywhere. There was no noise to make her think the fight was continuing, but she still shivered, not mistaking the puddles for rain. Damn packs…
When they arrived at the Oaks’ lab, they finally paused for a few brief seconds near a table with an old man and a boy, and she smiled at them, for lack of a better idea, before they were off again, this time being almost dragged by a heavy-set black woman. Soon the smell of food overwrote everything else, and the girl found herself staring at yet another large pile of food. Seeing that everyone that had been there when they arrived had at least some of their team out, she released Phoenix and Rex before sitting down next to Alex, the bird standing by her plate and the dog placing himself in prime scrap-catching territory. The smells of the smorgasbord in front of her reminded her stomach that it ditched its last meal in the dirt a ways back, and she soon was filling it up again, hopefully long enough for the contents to be digested this time. She listened to the conversations going on around her for a while, eating and dropping food to Rex, before a sneeze caught the dog’s attention. Lexi turned in her chair to see Rex walking toward another kid playing with his vulpix, to whom she waved at before turning back to Gerard. “So were all these people here when you left?”
Rex walked over to where the other fire pokemon was sitting in the lap of her trainer, giving her a curious look, but he was still wary enough from his time among the packs to keep his distance.

Gerard shook his head as he swallowed another mouthful of water - a difficult task that caused him to clear his throat. "Ah, no. When I left, there was a group of us; young adults, I mean, about my age or so. We all received third-types from the Doctors - speaking of which, where are they?" he asked politely of Nayana before turning back to Lexi. "We split up when we set off, but other than the Doctors and a few guardians, it was just us. I must say, it makes me happy to see that our numbers have grown."

Lorenzo caught the wave from Lexi though he didn't know her name or face before that time, an instance he wasn't used to. His reaction was to send back a wave that stopped midway coupled with what he hoped was a pleasant enough expression, though he knew he wasn't quite a sight for sore eyes. He always came off rugged-looking when it came to his scraggly black hair and leather jacket, that he no longer felt the need to change expressions much. Sarcasm and blank faces often suited his personality and purposes nine out of ten times.
As for Flora, she noticed Rex and instantly started a low growl in her throat, jumping down off Lorenzo's lap and preparing for a face off against the opposite, a green glint in her eyes. Lorenzo noticed and tried to have her back off.
"Easy, girl, remember what I told you. This is why you're slowly becoming incapable of dating any guy but me."

Gloria's skull leaned into the touch, a silent approval of his gesture. Justice was then scrutinized beneath her stare. After a few seconds, Gloria gently lay her nose against the larvitar's great spine in a gesture of goodwill.
Then a quiet sound caught her attention, its source: a little rascal of a fox. The ninetales slowly strode over. In the process, the vulpix- Flora was her name- got uppity with yet another young pokémon. Gloria took a seat between the two, staring down Flora. It was a very simple statement: Behave.
Dr. Shonevsky watched with interest. He knew what these things meant: the first was Gloria's acknowledgment of the strongest child, the one that held her utmost respect. Justice in turn had been given Gloria's greatest blessing for the future. She must have predicted fantastic things. As for Flora... well, Ulysses had to agree with the ninetales' stance.

Lexi watched Rex out of the corner of her eye as she listened to Gerard’s answer. Even if she was kind of interested to find that the group that had started out hadn't returned, she actually wasn’t surprised to find a gathering here…Maybe if she had just been a guide for Gerard, she would still see the path she was on as small, but after her run in with Beati, and especially after a dead woman knew her name and told her that they were on track to awaken the mew, she had realized that she had stepped in it big time. Of course she was only a fragment of the plan, runt that she was when Beatrice Oak was around.
Rex’s curiosity was evidently not appreciated by the vulpix, who growled as she jumped off of her trainer’s lap. Rex, seeing the aggressive behavior took a surprised step back with a short yowl, taking on a defensive posture. He wanted to play not fight…Then a ninetales slunk its way into the middle, effectively heading off whatever was going to happen between the two, and he whined, not displeased with the ninetales’ action, but unhappy that the vulpix met him with such hostility…
Lexi could understand Rex’s feelings at that point…at least at the Howards’ she had felt like part of the group, but with so many people here, she felt like a useless add-on again. She hated being around large groups of people unless they were friends first…it always seemed like she got asked the same question, usually an inane one, over and over again, or else she was ignored. And when she tried to set the conversation, she usually got some sort of embarrassed noncommittal answer before the topic reverted to whatever it had been before she interrupted, so she usually just kept her mouth shut. Getting rid of all the massive family gatherings had been the one good thing the Calamity had done for her. Here, among all the strangers and their hardened faces…even though the vulpix trainer had waved back, she guessed he did it out of confusion more than anything else… and no longer able to distract herself with food after stuffing herself, she couldn’t feel more lost...well maybe she had been more lost in the fight against the guards, but for a non-life threatening situation…Ugh. The girl slouched down into her chair and pulled out her computer to start playing around with the ether imager, flicking crumbs for Phoenix to catch while the device booted.
