He didn't know the Inaari person, but he was sure that she was nice. If she wasn't, than N'tos's almost broken eardrums were going to waste. "I-I'm glad." He managed to say, amidst his dizziness at being shaken back and forth.
The happy croon from the green didn't last long, as a ear splitting shriek came from the queen that impressed. N'tos clasped a hand over his ear, wincing. "Shards, she's temperamental." He muttered to J'riar, so nobody else around them would take offense.
Asceth saw, with discontent, that the happy green of her eyes were once again tinted with yellow. There was no way to be disrespectful to one of their queens either, his only response was to fold a wing around Ianquith and make her feel safe.
N'tos glanced at the rider, Rinfala, and sighed. "Man, she's got her work cut out for her." Out of the corner of his eye, he could see that a blue had hatched. They were the one of the more common of colors after all.

The delicious looking egg finally hatched, well that was something. She skimmed the other eggs to see if there were any other signs of movement. After years of various household chores she found that standing for long periods of time wasn't a chore anymore. However, the late hour combined with the long stretches of nothing was starting to wear on Weiwin. At least she wasn't wounded and tired. She also wasn't in the front row, however, she had managed a relatively good view of the eggs by standing apart from the other female candidates. This is what might have gotten her into trouble with that flirty bronze hatchling. She wondered if she would get a terrible scalding for that later. Oh, well...
Due to the touch-and-go attitude of the queen hatchling, Weiwin didn't turn to see what the little spitfire was screeching about this time around. As long as she wasn't anywhere near her, she didn't much care about the creature's antics. There were more important things going on at the moment, anyways. It didn't sound like the fledgling gold was tearing any of her siblings apart, or sinking into any more supple Candidate flesh either. So, again - why give the ill-tempered hatchling the time of day just because she stamped her taloned paw?
The handsome blue stole her attention, though she was sure it was because of his looks. He seemed to be going pretty slow for a starving dragonet.

Santhea blinked, her eyes wide, as she watched the blue dragonet tumble out onto the fine sands. A blue! she thought excitedly as the last of the beautiful black shards fell from the stretching small dragon. She sighed as she saw him yawn - Thankfully he was calm, and her eyes flickered unconsciously to the creeling impressed gold at the edge of the sands, then looked back at the hatchling. She reinforced her thoughts of warmth adn welcome, while absent-mindedly wondering how the dragonets responded to these thoughts - do they feel them from all the candidates, or just their lifemates?
Santhea had to smile at the blue - his lazy actions suited the fact that everyone was getting tired and hot standing on the heated sands, waiting for the little animal. If she had been that drgaonet, she would already be racing around the sands, most likely trying to fly already - but that was in Santhea's nature, being a rushing person. The little blue, who had come from such a striking egg, appeared to have a calm mind.
Santhea shifted her weight again, as everyone was, trying to ease the heat as it seeped through her thin sandals. She shifted the material on her hips again, feeling it stick in the small of her back, then brushed her hair back from her forehead, smiling at feeling to undignified at such an important event. Will I impress? I guess it's a little selfish to admit, but, I really hope so! Santhea thought, her gaze roving from the little creature to the eggs to the other candidates and to the stands, then back.
She was feeling sweaty, and stiff, and the thought of the long hatching rankled, knowing her father would be noting every pause, every new impression - no doubt her mother would recount it all in patronising detail with her father injecting his own thoughts during the feast. And Santhea would not be allowed to wallow in peace, not with the stuffed candidates quarters. And how can I get over this and prepare myself for the future if I can't wallow? Of course, that's assuming I don't impress.. Faranth, the wait has made the tension unbearable! she thought, giggling nervously under her breath before stifling it, looking around fearfully in case her nervousness had been heard. She looked back at the blue.
The small dragon was a beautiful creature, that much was apparent the minute it stepped out of it's night-black shell. Even the arch of it's neck was measured and strong! If I had any ability in drawing or sketching, he'd be a lovely muse. Of course, dragons would be an obvious honour to draw.. she smiled again, her mind wandering absently, cheerful as usual despite her slightly depressing ruminations and the uncomfortable position the long wait posed.

It didn't make any sense to Kagiya that any particular color ought to be more common than any other. That wasn't fair, was it? Poor Golds. They were so lonely, with only some other golds. All those Greens overwhelmed them! "Daddy, do the Golds ever get sad 'cause there's only a little of 'em?" she asked, looking terribly sympathetic to the poor, lonely creatures. "Mommy says there's lots, but we gots only ... only... some of 'em." Seven, as it happened. And they must be so alone! "How come it's not ... fair, how come there's more of the little dragons?" Were they trying to take over the Weyr? Oh no! She was pretty sure that the Queens wouldn't like that!

Arioth nearly shrieked again at Varth's attempt to drag attention away from her, but the sharp thump of Rinfala's fist on the table startled her into looking back at Hers. He wants them to look at him instead, she whined, dragging her talons through the sand under her feet. I want them to look at meeeeeeee! The fury was somewhat subsided for the moment, but a distinct whine had formed in the queen's tone.
"It. Does. Not. Matter." Rinfala bit off each word distinctly, making sure that there was no possible way to mistake her meaning. "You are gold. He is brown. They will look at you, and they would even if you didn't want them to."
But I DO want them to! Cue a whine and a stomped talon.
...If Rinfala didn't have her hands full at the moment, she would have facepalmed.

And from somewhere across the sands, far away from the Stands but still somewhat in sight, the tiniest ghost of a face appeared in the nearly-hidden crack in the wall - Dolmin, positioning his head at an odd angle from his neck and sticking out his tongue, rolling his eyes in a ghastly manner at Kagiya - and then promptly disappeared.

After what seemed like pounds of food disappearing down his gullet, Redhath was finally full. But he wasn’t sleepy, not yet… M’al watched with interest as the Blue dragonet looked at everything else with interest. For once, the orange cleared out of the dragonet’s eyes, replaced by a blue that nearly matched the tip of his nose.
Look at them all, Mine. They are all so different… Redhath commented, as his mind clicked away. Even the queen’s angry shriek merely attracted a cursory glance from the cunning Blue. Everyone had levers, he realized; and he wanted to know how to pull them all! And the interaction between Varth and Arioth certainly provided Redhath with lots of materials for later plots.
M’al grinned and scratched the Blue’s eyeridges lightly, pleased that he had found such an intelligent lifepartner. Or that the Blue had found him, anyway. “Yes, Red, everyone is different. Look! Another egg is hatching, a Blue just like you!”
I’m still better.

I don't like him, Mine. Stop liking him. He's not better than me, Mine, I swear it. M'rik let out something between a laugh and a whimper and squeezed the Dragonet in his lap. He didn't take his eyes off the newest Blue, but he wasn't very focused on it. Oh, Hasufeth, he's not even close! Look at him, all... sauntering around like that. Huh? Hasufeth snorted a little in confirmation, though his eyes still had a few pitiful flecks of yellow. You're perfect. Won't you relax? Your new brother is entertaining, even you can't deny that. I'd like to see who Impresses him. Well, Mine, but I still don't like him. Ridiculous little boy. M'rik rubbed one of his horns, much more interested in the new Hatchling than his bonded was. It seemed almost a bit pompous. Good for it, having that much self-esteem. He could only hope (with a chuckle) that it would go to someone equally at ease. Maybe Raedue; he seemed like the type to enjoy sauntering. Maybe any one of the 50 or 60 white-clad teens crowded onto the Hatching sands. It was all up to the Dragon in the end. He can't have you, though.

Raedue shrugged his shoulders as he watched the little blue wander. "I don't know who he is meant for. But, seeing as how I really only know you, let's hope that he is meant for someone I know."

The shrieking and furious gold and brown down on the sands made S'kagi's teeth set on edge, but he tried not to flinch, lest Kagiya mistake it as an answer to her question. "No I don't think they find it unfair, but Golds are the only dragons that lay eggs, unlike flits. They're rare for an purpose, like in most Weyrs you have only one Weyr Woman. Sometimes a Junior. The little one down on the sands certainly doesn't sound like she feels lonely. But it's the way it works. A Weyr can't run if it's entirely made of Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders, an a dragon flight can't run if it's all queens. You need other dragons also. They're all an important part of the fight against thread when it falls. They won't be lonely, those golds. Not a bit. And they'll have their partners besides. They'll never be apart from them. Not really." How could they be lonely with their bonded? Hard to explain how that felt to Kagiya, how important his bond with Coriath was, and vice versa. "Like Coriath. He's not in the stands, but he knows where we are, and that we're talking. And he remembers flying you to the beach. He says you were very polite. And very small."

A shriek from the angry young queen had Zafir flinching violently, the end result of a sudden jolt to over-stressed nerves. But, he formed a reply for Raedue, regardless.
"Oh, I don't know. Someone so calm... I feel far too nervous to really believe he'd be for me. Look at the way he walks though, so full of himself." Zafir found it in himself to make a joke, he smile wavering as he did. "Reminds me of you, so certain you'd have me naked by now. You'd make a cocky little pair." The weaver went back to counting his breaths, eyes once more riveted to the blue body.
Even though he suspected he wasn't meant to impress this time, Raedue's words couldn't keep him from hoping a bit. It was good, at least, that he still had one friend on the sands with him. It made the vague sense of unworth much easier to bear.

The runner looked over at his friend ans smirked. "Well, not certain I would. But certainly hoping. You are easy on the eyes after all." This was fun, having someone of like mind around alot that he could tease. He had met people every so often before, but the nature of his duties always took him away far too quickly.

With her response to her father on the tip of her tongue, Kagiya paused, and caught sight of a familiar face in the crack. She couldn't make out that he was making a face at her... but she was sure that he was! Ooohhhh she was gonna get him good when he came out! She made a face back, subtle about it because she didn't want her daddy to see. "Maybe she's sad, daddy. She doesn't sound happy." Which was true enough. Still... her father knew all about dragons. Would he lie to her and say how they weren't lonely if they were? She didn't think so. Daddies didn't lie. "Daddy, can you tell him he's big?" Not that he wouldn't know that. "An' nice?"

Zafir's face heated a bit under the praise, hidden by dark skin and low lights, but he didn't turn back to Raedue, still watching the dragonet. The little one glanced at him, for only a moment, and Zafir's throat caught. Dragons had such lovely eyes...
"Pretty, perhaps, but too short to be any good to anyone." It was a little odd, having a conversation when he was watching something else. It seemed almost rude, to him, but Zafir knew well as anyone by now that hatching took away your attention. "That's always a problem for getting respect, I think, being a handspan or more too small to actually look someone in the eyes. Makes people take you less seriously. And, it makes them feel more at ease lording themselves over you." He wasn't sure where this babble about his height was springing from, but he made no move to quell it.
"Not that I've ever wanted anyone taking me too seriously, outside the Weaver hall. Life is easier when people don't actually see you as a threat, because you're tinier and less motivated than them."

It seemed to get nauseously quite whenever the hatchings paused, but as the Quarter Horse egg rocked everyone seemed to start breathing again. With the revealing of the blue Tideal stood a bit straighter without thinking, and watched the handsome dragonet intently, looking at the pretty shades along its skin. He was just as striking as his egg but despite the attention he drew he seemed another one to take his time in choosing. The blue's gaze passed the crowd and Tideal calmed himself and waited, quite sure he'd be watching the dragonet walk up to someone else any minute.
The crowd emanated a whole spectrum of emotions, most of which were topped judiciously with anxiety. Everyone was waiting on the blue dragonet to make a move, or another egg to join it. Tideal stayed just as anxious as the rest, waiting in limbo for the hatchling.
