Ashierra snorted, chewing on the well done meat. Well, it was only for one night. She'd do better next time. She chuckled when Alek started purring. "Oh, don't worry about my feelings. The meat's far too gone." She looked over at the water, imagining playing in the shore and waves of the ocean sea.

"Oh alright." Alek grinned as he bit one last time into the dry meat and pushed the rest to the side. He wasn't really that hungry anyway. Which was probably a good thing in the case of their dinner.
Though her statement did make the male cattaur sober up. "But....I am worried." He blurted out. Alek flushed as he realized what he said and quickly looked to the side. "That's why...that's why - I'm thinking ever since those kids left us today...that you know maybe.... Maybe we should be serious about things. I can't keep playing around forever." He was glad that it was getting dark now and that the fire was flickering light over his flushed cheeks, "It's not fair of me to drag you around like this, Ashierra, when you should be finding love and...a mate."

Ashierra forced down another bite of meat for the sake of hunger before tossing it to the side. Her head snapped up in reaction. At first, she didn't know what he was saying. Her bright eyes narrowed nervously. "You- What makes you think you're dragging me?" She huffed irritably. "You think I'm something caught on your foot?! I'll- love?" As quick as her temper was up, it was back down. Pouting, she crossed her arms, leaning over the fire toward the male. "Why are you worrying about whatever love life I could possibly have?"

"No! Not at all." Alek frowned. Maybe he really should have considered how to say this at first. "I just am. I mean - you're important and I can't help but to wonder." He started before biting his lip and staring off into the fire for a thoughtful pause.
"I mean, that for me too. All this traveling and all the challenges that we've faced just pushes me closer to realizing something." Alek flushed before peeking back at Ashierra, "I'm tired of frolicking around with others so maybe I need to finally settle down with someone. Though I can't give up traveling..." As an after thought he held up his hands defensively, "Not that I've frolicked like that in quite a while!" Sheepishly looking at Ashierra, Alek cleared his throat. "Anyway, when I saw you with the kids it made me wonder. Why doesn't she have something like this already? I mean - not kids exactly. But someone to really be there for you, as your mate."

Ashierra leaned back from the fire, surprised at where the conversation had suddenly turned. Frolicking and mates and settling down. What the hell... Could he really think what it sounded like? As much as bashfulness made her want to look elsewhere, she was looking wide-eyed at the male both searching him and herself, ears flattened at his comment. She'd been too busy to have a mate. But was that really the reason? She cleared her throat, still staring. "Same could be asked of you. Dark magic or no... you should have a mate by now."

Alek sighed softly under his breath. Honesty was hard when it came down to it. "I should." He replied casually before shaking his head. "I had several options before but no one has ever really affected me before so it just kinda got pushed aside." Rubbing the back of his neck, Alek gave Ashierra a pointed look. "But things feel different now. A mate may not be such a bad thing after all. Actually I was hoping...that I could get her approval tonight."
Shaking his head, the cattaur stood. "I - I can't seem to speak straight right now." He shrugged lightly and gave a weak grin to Ashierra, "I'm going to go walk before I make a bigger fool of myself." With that he turned away from the fire and started walking along the creek's bank.

Ashierra held her breath, too busy puzzling out what Alek was trying the say. Her approval?! Who was her? ... no. He wouldn't refer to her as someone else, that made no sense. But what about this conversation did? "Walk?" She stared at his back for a minute. "Now wait a minute!" She pushed herself to her feet. "You should have thought before bringing something like this up! Too late to not look silly, and I don't think you could get much worse tonight." Her crossed arms tightened around her chest, afraid of her next question. "Now... why did you bring that up? Now."

Alek's steps slowed before he sheepishly peeked over his shoulder at Ashierra. "Yes?" His ears flicked in her direction curiously before he finally turned to face her. Couldn't get much worse? That stung a little. The male cattaur frowned before shrugging. "Why?"
"Because well...I was curious is all." He was torn between shrugging it off and trying to push the issue further. "Curious about what you thought about relationships." Alek looked at her before just being blunt about it, "I just wanted to know if you would be comfortable with the idea of being my mate. But maybe I was just being silly since you probably...want to laugh at me now." He turned away from her again before quietly gazing up at the sky. He was a man, he could face this no matter how much it was gonna hurt.

Ashierra huffed. Just curious, fine whatever. She was about to turn away, but he kept talking, freezing her movements with her torso half turned. His mate. He... wanted her? A warm feeling bubbled in her belly. Her parents had talked about this feeling before they died. A moment of silence later, she did in fact start laughing. One second later she was running at Alek, taking her turn to tackle, wrapping her arms around his torso and nuzzling her face against his shoulder. "Why would I laugh at you for that?" She asked softly into his skin.

Aww, man. She did find it hilarious! Alek's gut clenched as his whole evening started to turn sour. Why had he even asked? He really...really should have thought about this better. Maybe a romantic dinner or something would have at least made this situation have a smoother ending.
"Eh?" Alek's eyes widened as she tackled him. Was she angry now at him? Closing his eyes the male prepared himself for the pounding. Yet he was being hugged instead? Alek's eyes snapped open in surprise. "You...don't think it's a stupid idea? Really?" A sigh of relief left his lips as he wrapped his arms around Ashierra and hugged her tight. "You know. I don't want to let you go now just because I'm afraid you'll change your mind if you say yes." He teased softly to cover his own relief at being accepted.

Ashierra laughed again, groaning into his neck. "Change my mind... Does this seem like something a woman who thinks the idea is stupid would do?" She took his face into her hands, pulling his head down into a deep kiss.

Alek purred in pleasure as their kiss deepened. But the male pulled back mischievously to speak against Ashierra's cheek, "Only if she were crazy." He murmured before kissing down her jawline and running his hands up her sides in a gentle caress. Something told him that this may just turn out to be a very lovely long night.

Ashierra purred in responce, fingers running up into his hair. "Eh... I might be a little bit." She moaned softly, her skin prickling with goosebumps from his touch. Did she really-? Did they really-? Another inner wall was melting away, leaving that warm feeling inside to meld with the rest of her body, allowing herself to really enjoy the attention.

"Mmm'hmm." Replied Alek in with a rumbling purr, "Another reason I'm in love." Quiet save for the deep purr that came from his throat Alek gazed at Ashierra and tenderly touched her shoulder to fiddle with the strap there. While his other hand caressed her side sparks flickered from his skin to her's before he nibbled her lips and claimed them again for another kiss.
Which ended as Alek suddenly paused to look at Ashierra. A tender smile came across his lips, "Thank you." He nuzzled her and mumbled into her collar bone, "May I?" He whispered as he moved his mouth towards her temple and trailed kisses down her face. Holding her in his embrace Alek realized that if she rejected him now that he would have a tough time pulling away.

Ashierra chuckled softly, nipping at his ear. Love... That had to be the first time that word was actually said. At first, she was silenced from the twist in her stomach. The very thing she had been both running from and searching for, the thing she had hidden from and kept to herself for. Love was commitment, commitment was affection, and affection was complicated, leaving room for heartbreak. The second silence was caused by the attention she was recieving, untwisting her stomach and comforting her mind as she eagerly leaned into the kiss. Seeing the way he looked at her made little flames rise and fall in rhythm with her purring, her stomach knotting again, but in a good way. The attention on her skin was too distracting for her to realize what he was asking. May he what? "Eh? Do wha'?" She muttered, words blurring somewhere between her mind and her lips.
