I think French is the prettiest language. And the guy from The Matrix pretty much said why. (If you haven't seen the movie or don't remember, go rewatch it.)

I honestly don't see why so many people like French. I find it quite ugly. (sorry French speaking guys) That is the only language in the world that I don't want to learn.
And I never really saw the matrix, so explain, you person.

And I never really saw the matrix, so explain, you person. It's a question of taste :/ Personnally, I wonder how people could ever find german pretty . Let's not even talk about dutch .
Also, don't you find that ugly precisely because the average population finds it pretty ?

No, I find it ugly because I just don't like the sounds that come out of the mouths of French people (when speaking t3h French). Especially since it always sounds like they have a cold.

·:I have to agree with Vajra. I don't dislike French because most people like it. I dislike it because of the way it sounds... It's like you're trying to hold every sound in the back of your throat and when one manages to escape it does it through your nose. I've never been interested in Romance languages but I'm probably going to force myself to learn one next year.
DE is my main focus though no matter what. It's not so much that it's a great language (is is though) as it is the culture that draws me to it. I love everything about German culture and being a part of it is very appealing.
CN, JP, and RU are highest on my priority list after that.·: Red August

I too find French ugly. I just hate the sounds 'au(x)(r)', and 'que' as in 'manifique', ugh, it gets under my skin. And when people hesitate in a sentance, they seem to drag the word on for ages 'jeeeeeeeee eeeee'. I don't like the culture either (I've spent a total of about 2 months living in France throughout my life, so I have experienced it), but it doesn't mean that I don't like the people. I have the same impression of Italian, I know absolutely nothing of Italian. Maybe just because it's so closely related to French. Is it the closest?
Ukrainian is the prettiest/most beautiful in my opinion, so melodic heart heart . Followed by Russian Irish and Spanish.
But I don't think German is pretty, it's sexy. I LOVE that 'harshness' about it and the 'stop' between words that prevents one word melding into the next (eg, compare 'vor arbeiter' with 'for ages'). Very sexy. Even more so when guys speak it. redface I even have my keyboard set to German by default to get ß and umlauts without hassle. Ich liebe Deutsch heart .

And it's quite funny that you like German since the pronounciation is by many ways similar.
@ Athran : Oh that's funny cause the ' que' in magnifique is pronounced like the 'c' in fantastic [ english ] or the 'ck' in deck [ german ].
Mh. I could hardly ever find german sexy .

Mh. I could hardly ever find german sexy . ·:I know what your point was but that's just you're opinion and, since there's no way to prove someone's intentions, it will never be anything more than an opinion.
And no, German pronunciation is nothing like French unless you're saying a French loanword like "tschau" or "pommes frites". German doesn't have a French J or a French G. It lacks a lot of what French has and vice-versa. There's no way you could associate the two from anything but Latin. After you leave the Latin branch the similarities end completely. One's a Germanic language and one's a Romance language. There's no comparison. (fact, not opinion)
Oh, and "Deck" is an English loanword. It's not really German.
Lessons to be learned: •Think before you type. •Don't blindly and aggressively defend something just because someone doesn't like it. Opinions are opinions and they'll differ from yours many more times in the future. That's something the younger (and younger-acting) members of this guild need to realize.·:Red August

I can't say I'm too fond of the sound of French either, although I do like the language in general. It just doesn't sound clean to me, somehow. I can't say I'm fond of the combination of nasal and guttural sounds.
I mean, nasal sounds can sound nice on their own; see Portuguese for details. So can guttural sounds, as evidenced by Irish Gaelic.
But putting them together? It's like putting brownies in your borshch. sweatdrop
German sounds a lot cleaner than French, to me, although I don't find it to be a particularly pretty language either.
But honestly, I often think that the only reason that French is said to be such a pretty language is that the French themselves insist that it is. mad D (MonOstatos, this is not aimed at you in particular)
At any rate, the lack of voiced plosives in Aymara makes me melt. I hate voiced plosives.

Well, that explains a lot! Brownies in borshcht = DO NOT WANT.
I do like the sound of German, and the Germanic languages in general. Though I can't say German is too high in the spectrum of sexyness, Icelandic for some reason I love. And the Celtics are nice too. But such strange grammar...
@Eccentric: bgdbdgbdgdbgdbdgdbgdbgbdgdbg!
EDIT: Actually, better than all those would have to be Hindi. I don't like the super high pitched voiced that some Indian women tend to have, it ruins it. But it sounds very nice when spoken clearly by the right male voice.

/d/ and /g/ don't bug me nearly as much as some of the other voiced plosives. xÞ
I particularly don't like /ɟ/ and /ɢ/.

That depends on pronouncation. Personally, I say fan-tast-ik where there' no French '-que' sound and the German 'deck' in phonetic was dɛk. I fail to see your view. I never claimed to like English that much, but it's the only language I'm 100% fluent in. But what does it matter? You have your opinion, I have mine and everyone else has their own. I'm not prepared to get in an arguement over it, so I'll leave it at that. No one likes everything.
