Elnara grew pale and emitted a soft, "Oh, no ...", and buried her face in her hands. No ...

Celebor was furious, and his small face darkened and his hand clenched into a tight fist.

"Don't talk that way about my Nana!" he told Ruel hotly, dealing him a painful uppercut.

Haradhel looked as though she wanted desperately to intervene, but she knew it wasn't her place - she wasn't family yet - so all she would let herself do was press Elrohir into doing something about it.

"I can't," Elrohir replied in a dark whisper, hanging his head in his hands. "I'm no better. I have nothing to say. Those were the same words I used all those years ago to make her leave in the first place!"

Ruel gasped, more with surprise than pain, since Celebor really was too small to do a lot of damage, and his countenance grew even darker. He looked as though he would have loved to return the blow, but Luthien, white with rage, grabbed his arm and dragged him to his feet.

Ruel tried to protest, but Daeron also rose and helped his mother to escort his father out of the Dining Hall. Tinuviel and Earendil watched them all leave, and Tinuviel's face was as angry as her mother's.

Earendil watched his father being escorted out of the Hall, then looked down at Lin and nodded. "Yeah," he replied softly, not wanting to break the awkward silence. "He's in big trouble."

Lore swallowed, thinking that this was beyond akward. While he was use to harsh words, he was more use to them being directed at himself, and further more, he was not use to having other elves drag the offender out of the room. He looked to check to see if there was an extra seat next to him and was grateful that there was one.

"Celebor," he called out gently patting the seat, "Come and sit with us."

"Oh...." Lin murmured thoughtfully before looking up at him again, "Do you think that hurt? Triton has been teaching Celebor."

Though she wasn't sure what it was about, she was sure that Celebor was not at all in trouble. Since it was Earendil's daddy that started it all.

Celebor slid off the seat he was sitting on and headed over closer to Lore, but before he sat down he ran over to Elnara and threw his arms around her and hugged her tightly.

"Don't listen to him, Mommy!" he told her fiercely, changing back to English again. "He's just a big grump!"

Elnara took a deep breath to calm herself as she hugged Celebor back, but she couldn't prevent the tear that slipped from the corner of her eye. She held Celebor tightly, then kissed the top of his head and whispered in his ear, "My little hero." She offered him a forced smile, and he smiled back at her before going and sitting in the seat Lore had offered him.

"I thought he was nice," he told Lore quietly once he had settled into his new seat. "He showed me lots of things where he worked, and it was really neat. But he's not nice at all."

He leaned forward a bit so that he could peer at Elnara (who had begun slowly to eat her meal), then leaned close to Lore and whispered quietly, "Why is he so mean to her?"

Once Ruel was out of the room, the tension lessened slightly, and the others relaxed a bit.

Earendil frowned at Lin. "I hope it hurt," he told her quietly. "He was being very mean to your sister, my aunt. Very ... very mean."

Atalya reached out and put one hand over Elnara's. "Forget about him," she murmured softly. "He's always been this way. e just needs to remember ... who he is, and who you are ... and realize that you're no different than the rest of us."

Her expression was sorrowful, longing. "Don't think believe that we all think as he does. He's alone in this matter."

"Maybe he sat on something bad," Lin mused thoughtfully.

Though she wasn't at all pleased that Ruel had done something mean to Elnara, though she didn't know what it was, but Elnara did seem upset. She was sure there had to be a reason why he was being mean, because mean people don't have nice people like Earendil and Daeron and Tinuviel....

Of course the reference to sat on something bad came from a saying she did not quite understand which described people like her Daddy and Yue. Though they weren't meant, but that's because the bad thing wasn't that big and they hadn't sat on it for that long.

Lore leaned down in the middle of cutting, he figured Celebor deserved an answer. Even though it was not the easiest question to answer.

"He does not like people who are different than himself."

Celebor's brow furrowed in confusion, and he leaned forward to look at Elnara again, then leaned back and looked at Lore.

"But they're not different!" he protested quietly, fully aware that it would probably be best if his mother didn't overhear their conversation. "They're just the same! 'Cept for two things, though - she's a girl and he's a boy, and she's nice and he isn't!"

Elnara smiled at her grandmother and nodded. "I know," she replied softly, squeezing her grandmother's hand gratefully. "It's just ... hard."

Hard hearing the same words as she had heard the last time she was there, the very final words any of her brothers had ever spoken to her. She raised her eyes unconsciously to Elrohir, the one who had said them the last time.

Earendil blinked down at Lin. "What?" he asked her, confused. "I ... 'm not sure I know what you're getting at."

He paused thoughtfully. "I ... guess if he sat on something ... it might make him a bit grumpy ... but even so, that would be no reason for him to act the way he did."

"He should be ashamed of himself," Tinuviel interrupted their conversation from where she sat on the other side of Lin. "What he said was absolutely horrible."

She was still furious, and would be for a while.

Haradhel saw the way her future sister-in-law was looking at Elrohir, and she glanced back and forth between the two several times before leaning close to Elrohir and whispering, "It's so different ... knowing she's the one you were so awful to, and seeing her here, looking at you that way. But if you were anything like your brother is now ..."

She trailed off hesitantly.

Elrohir broke eye contact with Elnara and nodded to Haradhel. "I was as bad as him, and worse," he told her quietly. "You were the one who made me realize how horrible I was, and I'm ashamed now of the way I was back then."

He frowned sadly. Haradhel wasn't the one that he should be apologizing to, Elnara was. But even with her sitting directly across the table from him, staring at him, he couldn't find the courage to face her - not yet.

Lore paused trying to think this through, "Well...." he murmured softly, "Your Mommy is special, she can transform. No one else can, and he doesn't like that because that makes her different."

Though he knew that wasn't a good enough explaination, it would make no sense to Celebor really.

"I don't know neither, that's what some people say about Daddy," Lin replied back, "That's why he's grumpy a lot," she nodded a bit as she looked at her food before spearing it with her fork, "I'm sure he'll be better behaved, Luthien is a mommy."

That was her answer to life, Mommy solved a lot of things, but Daddy does too, but Daddy listens to Mommy. That's what Lin learnt.

Celebor blinked at Lore again. "You mean he doesn't like her 'cos he can't change like she can?" he asked blankly. "That's silly ..."

He thought about it a moment longer and came to the conclusion, "He's just jealous."

And he nodded as if that was the answer to everything.
