((Can we have little control over powers here? Such as having a set of powers?? Because that seems an awful lot like my powers and having to do with spirit [the going out of body and being able to navigate around]... I'm not meaning to complain or anything, but I was just wondering sweatdrop ))

((Not quite sure where I stand here...Do you mean Asako's possession ability, or Keru's technique he's teaching her? :/))

((I'm talking about the ability that he's teaching her, because that's sort of like the thing that happens to Jake when he's asleep and he can also send out his spirit to directly read a single person's mind and such. I was just wondering if that is really in his plan for Keru's powers, because not everybody has exactly stated their abilities. I'm sorry if I'm sounding a**l, I'm not meaning to))

((No, no, it's cool; I was just confused. I was personally fine with it, but if want to talk with him about it, like, via PM or something, I'd be fine with that.))

Asako frowned at Akerian's first comment. It really seemed like he was just blowing off her panic. Sure, maybe he was okay with flying around all the time, but Asako was a kitsune--kitsune weren't meant to fly, and Asako sure as hell didn't enjoy the taste she'd gotten of it. It seemed to her that the polite thing to do would be...make it okay or something: calm her down, not blow her off. It really made her irritated.

Calming down slightly after the wave of anger, Asako tried to get herself focused. She listened mostly attentively to his explanation, though it seemed a far cry from what her fellow kitsune had done. She didn't really know the technique, but it was more subtle, sort of tricking the soul instead of what Akerian described as almost a forced entry.

However, when Akerian began to 'fade,' and 'become one with his spirit' -Asako scoffing inside at the terms her 'sensei' used- she suddenly found herself completely attentive. Wow! He can teach me to do all that?! she thought excitedly to herself. That looks so cool!

She listened intently to the instructions the boy gave, and tried to imagine herself doing them. She visualized the effect, and liked what she saw. It was only when Akerian added, "So, wanna give it a try?" that she was brought up short.

"Whoa, you mean like right now?!" she cried, mentally backtracking. "What if something goes wrong?! My old sen--teacher said not to rush my abilities, especially since I'm so young. How do you know it'll be okay?!"

Asako didn't know why she was so nervous all of a sudden. Maybe it was a combination of her flight up here, mixed with the unfamiliarity of the technique Akerian used, but whatever caused it, Asako suddenly felt quite skittish.

"well, i mean we will have to work on it for a bit, but i learned it at a young age too." acarian said. "all though, im not going to make your training as intense as mine. were just going to work on it. now first, try and block out everything around you." acarian said sitting down.

(( sweatdrop didn't mean to cut that short. I had to leave and I sure as hell wasn't going to delete it for writing again.

About the power things: I think maybe Keru and Surf_dude have slightly different views on how 'powers' are governed. Keru seems to think they're of a Naruto-esque type: so long as you have some sort of control, you can learn most anything. Surf_dude; I think you think they're more like X-Men or the like. You have a power and that's it.

Here's my two-cents: Since we're dealing with magic and not necessarily genetics, I've been playing this as if a person is specialized in a certain area (determined by 'mysterious forces' or something), similar but not exactly like the show Heroes. There's a character in it (Matt Parkman) who at first could only read minds, but it appears that with practice will be able to control anything that has to do with the mind (i.e. muscle control, dreams, hallucinations, etc.). My character can teleport (bit of a spoiler xp ), so I was going to eventually have it evolve into being able step out of this plane and exist in another. That would involve intangibility (have physical form where walls and people aren't), invisibility (walk in plane where light isn't), and perhaps even stopping time (step out of the natural flow). You see where this is going, right?

All that being said, we do have a Magic class, so some skills in this world MUST be able to be learned. Perhaps there's a difference between 'magick' and 'powers'. Magick could something that inherently flows through the Faerie Realm and is accessible to all (manipulation of natural elements: gravity, electromagnetism, strong and weak nuclear forces), theoretically being able control all traditional elements. 'Powers' could be brought upon by other forces. Genetics, possession, etc.

Man am I proud of that speech! The question for PromisedSword is-- does that fly? ))

Rhm's tail bristled with encouragement. He reminded himself that he was in a school now, and there were other people like him. He looked quizzically at Jake. "Teleport? I don't know what that is. But, uh, I guess that's a good name for it." He cleared his throat and began again.

"We woke up a few hours later on what felt like grass. I sat up and immediately fell back down again with a yelp as pain seared through my head and chest. I lay down breathing slowly and tried again. Pan got up before I did. We feel the same pain, but she's always been able to take a hit better than me." He glanced down fondly at her and she nuzzled his hand. "I finally was able to sit up and look around. As I did, a blanket slipped off of my chest and I noticed bandages around my chest and my breathing was slightly labored. I rubbed them and gritted my teeth in pain.
"'Reckon you broke a few ribs there, youngin'' A gravelly voice said. I looked past the flickering fire and there sat a human dressed in travelers clothes and a wide rimmed hat. I asked him who he was. He said he was a just a merchant passing through. He asked for my name and I gave it to him. He stayed silent for a bit and stoked the fire.
"'I don't make it a habit to ask strangers their business,' he said, 'But when someone who looks like they just got out of a fight with a bear blinks right out of thin air in front of my horse and nearly makes me lose all of my goods... well, that's where I need my explanation.'
"'Out of... thin air?' I shook my head; I couldn't remember. Instead I asked where we were.
"'A few miles outside of Hynic.' he replied, looking at me intently. I started in surprise; Hynic was miles from Grameir. I told him where I came from and that I didn't know how I had gotten here. As luck would have it, he was going in the direction of Grameir and offered to give me a ride. In return, I would tell him all I knew about my mysterious appearance.
"The trip to Grameir took little over four weeks. For the first week, I mostly staid in back of the cart, wincing at every bump in the road. After I recuperated a bit, I was able to help out with every day tasks; looking for firewood, fishing and such. Some nights we talked about how I got there. He was very attentive when I spoke of my disappearances, but never pried. Even gave me a few tips and offered a few explanations. He eventually started calling it 'quick-step'."
Rhm smiled fondly. "It's odd. All that time, and I never learned his name; never even thought to ask. I also didn't get a chance to thank him.
"We were only two days more travel from home. That night, I dreamed of my bed. I dreamed that I was home eating breakfast in my house and seeing my parents. The next morning I woke up, not on the hard ground that I had woke up on the past four weeks, but in my own soft bed. I should have been relieved and happy to be home, but really I just felt sort of let down. It was then I knew I wanted to travel, to get out of this little town and explore.
"My parents were happy to see me, no one else seemed to notice I was gone. Of course now I had to tell them what had happened to me, and the other times that I had disappeared.
"Now it was worse than the ignoring acceptance of before. Now everyone, even mom and dad, was kind of scared of me. There were always wary, careful not to startle me or make me mad. I didn't want that. The next couple of months was a bizarre ritual in trial and error learning. No one wanted to force me to work or work with me, so I had a lot of time to practice. I didn't ever try to quick-step far. I was scared of where I might end up. Finally I was able to go a few feet on command. But the effort to step was much greater than was worth the few feet I went, so I mosty tried to ignore my... gift.
"Then, three months ago I got my acceptance letter for Artemis Moon Academy for Talented Youths." Rhm laughed and shook his head. "I didn't even know about this school, let alone apply. There was no way I could refuse. The next day I packed a few things, left a note for my parents, and set off down the road. The letter had come with specific directions, so that was no problem. All I had to feed was myself and Pan, so food was no problem either; a rabbit here, a bird there. I left so early before school started because I knew I would be set back, and I was. Three times on my journey I woke up in completely random places, a few miles from my normal path." Rhm was staring out of the window. "It was hard, but in a strange way it was the best time I've ever had. Just me and Pan and the occasional traveler we camped with, always willing to tell a story."

He looked down and smiled at Jake and Anne. "And that's my story. I came to the school a few days ago. Camped in the field out back until opening day." He sighed contently. "When you're on the road, telling stories is the best way to get to know your fellow man, and also the main form of entertainment. After a while, you get pretty good at it, and every person you tell it to is a little bit of yourself you pass on." He looked up and spread his arms, as if to say 'there you have it'.

((surf_dude, if you dont think that possession ties in with being possessed, then....well....im not sure. but being possessed and having the ability of possession have something in common. and i dont wanna spoil ne thing.))

((Okay, yes, I definitely am more of the X-men esque type of person - that was my whole view on everything, but after that speech I guess there kind of needs to be room for improvement and the ability to learn new things outside of their powers. And Keru, my problem wasn't with possession and being possessed - it was sort of with the way that you explained your form of astral projections, because that's sort of the way that I viewed my character's power of being able to unintentionally see other gifted races through dream. I'm cool with everything now and didn't mean to stir up any trouble I was just trying to control things a bit, I guess. Oh, and nice speech Rhm wink

((Yes, good speech, Rhm! ^_^ ))

Anne heard the boy's tale attentively. She was amazed at it, and found many similarities between his and hers stories; an accidental friend who turned out to be a great teacher, the traveling around alone...she had resumed her story a great deal, afraid she'd bore the boys, but now she was starting to feel more relaxed at his willingness to share so much.
"That's an amazing tale, Rhm!" she smiled at the cat boy "It seems we all share a common ground of sorts...the living on our own, sharing and learning with others, and the misunderstanding from our close ones..." She shook her head slightly "I didn't think that existed in Faerie."

((dont worry surf, you weren't stirring up ne trouble...but it is a lot more fun if you can expand on your abilities to learn other things))

((Rhm, I guess I was missing the heart of the 'problem' by not figuring out the core differences, but now that it's been shown to me where the line is, I'll give you my view on how this whole thing works in this world. Now that I think about it, I probably should have had it posted in the About section from the beginning, but if you want the truth, it never occurred to me that there would be any confusion. Guess that shows I've still got a lot to learn about modding, ne?

Anyway, the way I figure things work is pretty much like what you said, Rhm. Everyone is, to steal your word (if I may) 'specialized' in certain abilities. No one can learn everything, but they are not restricted to the same iron-clad set that they begin with: it's more organic; things grow and change, but only within a certain sect. It's like, apes evolved into men, but they still couldn't breathe underwater.

A more personal example for Asako was, since there is a whole lot of folklore behind kitsune that I didn't know, to familiarize myself with her background and her traditional range of abilities, I went and wiki'd kitsune to see what came up. From there, I found most of the abilities listed in her bio. My main concern with power development for her in the near future is to have her get a good handle on all her abilities, seeing as she is still quite young. If I had to think past that, I guess I would have decided to have her expand on the abilities she has, but again, I wasn't thinking about that just yet.

I hope that clears up any confusion, and I'm sorry I didn't make this clear before.))

Asako calmed down a little at Akerian's assurances, and tried to get herself into the right state of mind. Everything is going to be okay... she told herself, evening her breathing until she felt nearly back to normal. Akerian knows what he is doing: nothing can go wrong now. Besides, she added with a bit of her normal humor It wouldn't be quite as fun if it was nice and easy.

Gaining strength from her final comment, feeling more like herself than since she had been flown up here, she tried to do as the boy had instructed. She focused on the noises around her -the chatting students below, the wind blowing around the roof, even the distant sounds of the forest- until they were the only thing in her mind. Then, one by one, she blotted them out.

Asako found this part relatively easy. After all, she had done much the same thing with her meditation when she was first learning her abilities. Blocking out external distractions and focusing internally was nothing new to her. Smiling to herself, she thought, There: step one done.

Sitting up in her bed Kuragai started getting dressed. She pulled on baggy blue jeans, a tank top, and a long sleeve black shirt over it. Pulling her cloack, boots, and gloves on she went to Chi's cage. "Time to go Chi," carefully she placed Chi on the inside of ehr cloack.

Leaving her room Kuragari headed down the hall for the headmistress's office. "We'll need to make sure it's ok first. I mean it was about 3,000 or so years ago when Mom came here but back then you could also hunt humans." A smirk played across her lips as a high pitched laugh rang in the air. "Oh Chi it wasn't that funny."

Reaching the headmistress's office Kuragari knocked waiting to be told to go in.

(I'm not sure if I'm allowed to control the headmistress so I stay at this.)

seeing that asako was now in a state of calm, acarian continued. "ok, next, you need to find your spiritual energy and release it. let it flow through you and out. let it coat your body." acarian stopped there and his voice became serious. "asako, i warn you, what happens after this is no easy task. you will face all of the emotional pain you have encountered in you life. break-ups, people close to you dying, its no easy step. it took me a while to get by this, but only because i have a lot of emotional pain. so, are you ready for it?"

((Something I think you all might be interested in: for my Senior Exit Project (a graduation requirement at my school) I chose my topic to be virtual communities. Well, a third of that grade was a practical application of my essay/thesis, called a product, and for my product, I decided to use this RPG! Cool, ne?))

Asako heard Akerian's voice coming to her from what seemed like miles, so calm was she. She listened to his next words, while still keeping her sense of detachment and calm, until his final words disrupted her.

Fighting to keep control, she played over again what he had said. "I warn you, what happens after this is no easy task. You will face all of the emotional pain you have encountered in you life. Break-ups, people close to you dying, its no easy step."

She felt herself balking at the idea of facing her pain. After all, Asako pushed her pain aside, not wanting to deal with the darkness and ache it carried with her. She wanted her life to always be happy, always upbeat, and the idea of, all of a sudden, having all the negativity she had pushed aside well up with her...she didn't know of she could take it.

She paused, opening her eyes, to fix her golden stare on the boy before her. Sending, she thought to him, I don't know of I can do this... she thought, trying not to give away just how unsure she felt now, but couldn't help the anxiety that pervaded her mental voice. I...I really don't...

acarian put his arms on asako's shoulders. "asako, i know this won't be easy, but you need to try for me. at least give it a try," acarian said looking up at her. "dealing with our past sorrows is the only way to make them easier to deal with. you can't ignore them forever. plus i'm like a walking time bomb, ready to burst into a dragon at any moment and that could hurt a lot of pe... AHH!," acarian shouted, falling to his knees and clutching his chest. "acarian, i won't let you try to do anything to stop me, espically get some girl to possess you for you," vlad growled. "i'm not going to let you hurt anyone anymore!" acarian mentally screamed at vlad. acarian reached up and gripped asako's wrist. "please asako....help everyone."
