One everything was paid for, Cody happily led Dari out of the store and to his car. As Dari drove, Cody kept looking at him, and then to the window. The guy was perfect, and he'd agreed to a date with him. And, he'd even wanted to keep the date going!

Dari only caught Cody looking once and glanced back at the man, smiling. Other than that it was straight to the movie theater and to the front desks to get tickets. It was still fairly early in the day so the theater was not especially crowded.

Cody went inside and purchased a bucket of popcorn and two drinks. And told the kid working there to wait on the drinks until he found out what Dari wanted. "Darren, what would you like to drink?" he asked.

"Huh? Oh! A coke?" Soda had tons of waste in it, but it was so sweet and bubbly! Plus he didn't have to worry about gaining weight! He could just purge later. He held the tickets in his hand and put an arm around Cody's back. One of the kids working the counter gave them a disgusted look.

"A cherry coke and one regular," Cody turned to smile at Dari, feeling his arm around him. He ignored the face the kid made, and seemed happy enough just being there with the guy. He was handed his popcorn and looked to Dari. "Let's go find seats."

"You can get it flavored?" Dari asked. He too ignore the disgusted look, or perhaps he hadn't seen it at all? Either way he continued off unworried with a coke in one hand and their tickets in the other. He did not remove his arm from behind Cody once their tickets were ripped and they entered the theater together. Dari had already been once, but he still felt the trill of excitement at doing a new thing.
"Where do you like to sit?"

"Yeah, there's vanilla, cherry, and I think lime?" But he'd never tried it. "You can try some of mine," he added, figuring Dari had been deprived of such flavors. He pointed towards the middle rowin the theater. "Best seats, especially if we sit close to the center."

"Okay," Dari agreed. He headed up for the middle row and sat as close to the center as he could. The light emitting from the screen was almost stunning. He plopped down and helped Cody unburden himself, and then began to pull their snacks from his pockets. Nobody in the theater would mind, he hoped. What would the punishment be anyway?

Cody was smiling at Dari. He leaned over and said, "I've been sneaking sweets in since I was a kid." And on a teacher's salary, what was the point in purchasing candy for five dollars when you could get them for one elsewhere? He put the popcorn in the sweet next to him and took Dari's hand. "I'm really glad you decided to call," he said.

Dari chuckled at the mention of childhood secret missions. When his hand was taken, he turned his head to Cody and lifted their hands, his elbow still on the arm rest.
"I'm glad too," he said, a smile on his face." He'd ended up liking you, Cody. He kissed the man's hand but disengaged lips-wise and looked around as the lights began to come down.

Cody, while surprised by the hand-kiss, was beaming. This date was going so much better than he ever could've hoped. He and Dari were getting along wonderfully, and he thought the guy was actually interested!
His eyes went to the screen, but he unconsciously shifted closer to Dari.

Dari noticed how close Cody had come and shifted even a little closer over the armrest. It wasn't until the movie started properly, though, that he settled back and laid an arm around Cody's shoulders. He felt so sneaky! He felt so alive! Hopefully Cody didn't mind.

Cody felt like a teenager again, just for a moment. A first date was making him feel positively giddy, and he hadn't had that in a long time. His entire being felt like a freshly poured soda, bubbling up. This was different. Special.
He watched the screen light up as the scene changed.

Dari's whole body was lit up. Energy pulsed through his arm and into his chest like the adrenaline rushing before a dangerous mission, but this time it was innocent. This time it was the feel of his arm around another man. He'd never had imagined he could feel like this, not in this lifetime. He was good at playing it cool, though; about plucking up popcorn and peeling bags and bars open and offering them to Cody. He hoped the man couldn't tell how hard his heart was thumping, or how hard it was to breathe.

No, Cody couldn't tell, because his heart was racing just as much. He took a candy bar and smiled at Dari. "Thanks," He said, happily. He took a handful of popcorn, his hand maybe-intentionally bumping Dari's in the process.
