"I don't think so," Dari said, shaking his head, "Slasher films get to me, I don't really like them. Or evil monsters without explanation. So I guess... not-horror?" He was cool with ghosts and things, but they always seemed to be the bad guys. It was a little more complicated than that.
"How about you?"

"I don't really like horror films either," Cody admitted. He seemed a bit relieved that Dari shared his dislike. "I really like science fiction--not the stuff they play on the scifi channel, though. The horrible monster aliens and oops we made another killer shark with chemicals we shouldn't have been using. But stuff set in the future..." It was neat, seeing what people theorized life would be like.

"Hah. You don't like Robocroc?" Dari asked. He had been curious more than once to watch the absolute horribleness that was the Syfy channel original film. He'd seen more than he was willing to admit, and this particular film had involved a crocodile that could be given sedatives and also restarted like a machine. They couldn't even call it "scifi" any more. "I like science fiction and fantasy. I've never really watched chick flicks, but who knows."

"No," Cody said, grinning at Dari, "I saw the horror that was sharknado, and I decided most of what Syfy was doing was nonsense." He paused, and looked back to the window for a moment, then looked towards Dari. "Do you have a favorite movie?" he asked. "I've never been interested in chick flicks, but I hear a lot about them. The girls in my classes..." He shook his head.

Dari shook his head and frowned in thought. "No. I don't think so." He had so many swimming around in his head that it was hard to pick just one as the best. "Nobody in the house really watches them, but I know they exist, and I know that lately they're written explicitly to make you cry. Which is... bizarre. I'd rather not be sad leaving a movie, even if it makes me appreciate my relationship with my significant other or what have you. LGBT films have always been horribly sad. We beat them to it." He chuckled.

"Ugh, I hate the movies that make you cry," Cody said. "I hate movies about dogs, they always do that." The dog almost always died, and then it would flash back to when the owner and dog had been playing together, or happy, and they were just--just miserable. "I've actually never watched one," he admitted. "Oh, there it is," he pointed to the store.

"Mm," Dari agreed. That was the same reason he didn't like immortal lovers with their human counterparts. That never ended well, and it hit too close to home with most of his friends.
"They're always separate from the others, and a lot of them are really campy. It has its own section on Netflix, though." They all seemed either crazy, hyper-sexualized, or tragic.
He followed Cody's finger and headed toward the convenience store, parking out front and hopping out of the car. He waited for Cody and then headed inside and went straight for the candy aisle.

Cody followed Dari inside, almost moving to take his hand, but instead ending up just brushing against his. It was so nice to be out with someone he was interested in. "So what would you like?" he asked, looking towards the candy bars, then to Dari questioningly.

Dari felt the brush and let his pinkie and index finger brush Cody's hand as he passed.
"I'm not sure." He was still big on texture, but now he had taste too! He looked to his pockets, then to the candy bars. What would fit? "Is there anything you'd suggest?" He wasn't too big on just crunch, or just chocolate...

Cody took Dari's hand at the brush, and looked through the candy aisle. He selected several mountain bars. "These are neat," He said, "The outside is thick chocolate and has peanuts in it, and inside it's got this cream. Sometimes it's peanut butter or cherry. You might like them! My dad says they were a lot bigger when he was a kid. But then, almost everything was less than a dollar." He grinned at Dari. "He's pretty ancient."

Dari gave an internal giddy shriek when Cody took his hand. His chest felt tight in the most wonderful way and he was blushing slightly as he followed Cody through.
"Oh?" he asked then, using his free hand to pick up one of the bars. It felt hefty! That might be good. "Alright, sure. I'll try one of those. Do you want one too?" He completely ignored the comment on family.

"Yeah, I'll take one," Cody said, and then looked around. "What would you like? You pick this time," he smiled at Dari. The other man hadn't pulled away.

Dari tucked the bars into his pockets, knowing it might have looked bad on the cameras, but hey, he did plan on paying! He looked over the displays. Nah, marshmallows didn't come in small enough bags.
"What about these?" he asked, pulling a bag of gummy sharks from the wall, "Or do we want theater candy? I like milk duds..."

"Okay," Cody agreed, and then reached for a box of milk duds. "We'll share," he said, happily, giving Dari's hand a squeeze. "Let's go buy these, then I'll get us a large popcorn."

Dari only released Cody's hand to put the candy on the counter and pull out his wallet to pay. From what he remembered, a large popcorn cost as much if not more than two candy bars and a couple of snack bags. He denied the plastic bag offered and tucked everything into his pockets. Hah! Everything fit!
