Actually. You would unless you're a big damn hero.
See the problem is not that it's the morally right thing to do but rather that it's not the kind of thing an ordinary person would do. They would definitely get involved and such but they wouldn't go on a big rescue.
Not that there's any problem with it. It's cool and all but it does make for a Mary Sue.
