Rae sat up and pointed to the carton of fries.. there was still some in there. "Take those as a peace offering, she likes fries as much as I do although she isn't willing to admit it most days." xd

She would let John trot off to his doom before sprawling back out over the couch, laying across the warm spot he had vacated. "I'll be here to help you heal your wounds when you feel like escaping from my daughter!"

"Aye, your compassion is mindblowing, my sweet..." He said to Raven dryly, giving her butt a little smack as her rises, taking up the box of fries and making his way up the stairs to the main house.

Grasping the fries in his hand, John looked around the kitchen, noticing the mail on the counter, before looking up the stairs. "hello?" He called, not knowing whether to address her by name.

There was the soft clatter of a metal spoon against a ceramic bowel from behind the kitchen on the main level and a moment later a door opened with a wash of light down the little hall beside the kitchen.

A head poked out into the hallway and a pair of purple eyes looked at John for a moment in shock.

The moment didn't last that long though before the door opened wider and a teenage girl, a few inches taller than Hono'o stepped out to look the big man up and down as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Her hair was a cheery light lavender color this week, the shade that plastic easter grass was done in to contrast with the deeper purple of her eyes. Despite her mother's implications that the girl was a boring book worm Samantha was dressed in a trendy little sleeveless blouse and a matching pair of pinstriped maroon pants.

"Did she bring you home like a stray cat? My brother keeps trying to do that, luckily Evan's housekeeper makes him take them to the animal shelter after a night or two..." There was the slight implication that she would insist that her mother take John to the pound in the morning too, but there was also a hint of a smile to her lips as she leaned against the door jamb of her room, framed by the light.

John stood in the kitchen, smiling nervously at the girl as her words sank in...before he spread his hands, his metallic left still holding the fries. "Well, we both know your mother isn't that heartless..."

I hope. He thought to himself as he stood there for a moment, looking down at the girl. He recognised her now, if not a little vaugely - was her hair different? She was well on her way to being as beautiful as her mother, and as John took a step forward he held the fries out with his prosthetic arm.

"Uh, I thought you might like some....sorry if they're a little cold..." He said apologetically, his smile widening even as his eyes grew a little bright from the shine of her room, reflecting the tears trying to come, but being beaten back by years of solidarity and machoism. "...You've grown up a lot, Sam." He whispered, looking down at her shoes, unable to look her in the face anymore.

...She reminded him on Amelia.

Sam took the fries from him, smiling a bit wider as she looked in the box. "French fries and Frosted Flakes don't usually go well together, but I might eat them for breakfast if Mom doesn't beat me to them..."

She politely ignored the tears in his eyes. "I hear that most mortals tend to do that under a certain age... and I have been told that it works in reverse after a certain age as well!" xp

"So, are you back.. or just stopping by?" The teen asked as she turned to place the box on her desk, revealing a room done all in shades of white and purple, stacks of books were set in neat piles on the table and next to the bed, with a few very large volumes laying open across the foot of the bed along with a small silver laptop computer.

He smiled when she accepted the 'peace offering', taking the time that she used to turn and walk into her room to quickly wipe the tears from his eyes with his right hand, using his thumb to rub them dry before wiping them on his pants.

He followed her to the door but did not enter, instead leaning against the doorframe, hooking his thumbs into his pants pockets. He was so big he almost filled the entire frame. "I'm back. Still trying to find my feet, though...your mother is helping me till I do. I hope you dont have a problem with that...I dont want to impose or anything."

He'd already imposed too much. He wondered if she knew he was wearing her father's pants, which Raven had 'borrowed' from Bren....that would be awkward.

Trying to put such thoughts from his mind, he nodded to her bed, and the books lying upon it. "What are you reading?" He asked curiously. He wanted to go and have a look, but....this was her room, and he wasn't sure if he should enter uninvited.

"I Don't really care Johnathan... perhaps if my plan had gone right when I transferred to this body it would mater to me whom my 'mother' decided to bring home. But I am more myself than Hono's child, so I am more than grown up enough to deal with adult relationships... although I am not interested in one for myself." She brushed a few strands of hair behind one ear with a knowing smile. "But you might want to step lightly around my baby brother, he may look rather grown up, but he is an innocent."

"Anything, mostly history though... I missed quite a lot while I was sulking in my avatar. I am catching up, but I had to design a computer program to help me sort through a lot of the misinformation. History is mostly written by the victors, but if you look closely you can find the other side of the story... It would have been a lot easier if I had just come to my senses and paid attention..." Sam dismissed the thought as she shook her hair over her shoulders and shot a wink at the big man. "And you wouldn't have Hono to put you up!"

He frowned as she spoke to him - was he talking to Munin, the raven servent of Odin, or Samantha, the daughter of Hono'o? They were supposed to be one in the same, weren't they? Yes, thats right. John nodded to himself, sorting out his troubled mind. "I will do. Thanks for the heads up." He said, nodding as she mentioned Bren.

Boys and mothers were hard to seperate, he had learned. Bren would probably hate him...

"History eh?" John asked, perking up at the subject. "I found a book downstairs on Tribal History, with runes inscribed in the margins - was that your doing?" He asked.

He decided not to talk about the mentioning of Hono'o - the thought of her not being there for him at the time was too harsh for his mind to comprehend. He would not be standing here talking to Samantha, that was for sure - he'd probably be dead somewhere.

"It was... hopeless." She laughed softly with a shake of her head as she pulled the chair out from behind her desk and offered it to the big man before sitting on the bed herself. "A quarter of it was backwards... but there were a few bits that looked right at first glance and then had a misinterpretation in the core. If I could get my hands on the author I would be tempted to shake him. But he did appear to have a lot of things right, and that is surprising since so very little is known about the Tribals."

Sam typed a few things into the laptop before closing the lid. "I find myself making notes in the first language I learned to write... it is a bad habit since technically it is a dead language, and anyone trying to decipher my notes would garble them even worse, but I love the look of runes... no matter what is written they always flow in ways that newer languages just can't match!"

He nodded to her slowly, entering the room and looking around. Aside from the books stacked up, it was quite....spartan for a teenage girl's room. He expected some posters on the walls or something....he guessed Munin didn't have time to gawk at teeny-boppers.

He sat on the chair gingerly, hoping it would take his weight - luckily it did. He leaned forward, putting his elbows to his knees as he looked down at the books and her laptop, careful not to get too close - he didn't want his latent energy to fry it, after all. "I....I dont remember much, but I do remember the runes, and the power they contain....I would love it if you could help me with them." He spread his hands, smiling to her. "i dont have much to offer, but i can try to remember life in the Tribe if you wish...its all in here, i just need to open it up..." He said, poking his temple with a steely finger.

Samantha sat up a bit straighter, her posture going from good to ridgid in the space of a few words. "I can help you relearn the runes, and the basic spells... in fact Hono'o knows a lot of those, although she never uses them."

He wasn't Odin, and there were a lot of things in her memory that were the sole property of the All Father... despite her banishment from his side, she was still his raven and she would keep his secrets even past her own death.

He sat back in his chair as the girl sat up, his chair creaking ominously but still holding. "That would be nice. I know barely any magic at all, and these days, you need magic just to get by..."

He paused for a minute, mulling his own words over....before turning back to the desk behind him, taking up a piece of paper and a pen, writing on it even as he turned back to her. "....I dont even know if this is right, but bear with me..." He muttered as he scribbled a mess of runes down the paper. "I noticed some of the symbols in that book as i flicked through, but only the individual ones....put them together and they make these."

He finished writing and turned the page to her so she could read it - the runes spelt two names - Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr. "These seem very familiar, but i cant quite tell why...they are names, correct?"

Her eyes widened slightly, but then she smiled. "Yes.. they are names, but they are also titles... like how Munin is a name and a title. They belonged to Thor as Hugin and Munin belonged to Odin."

"Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr are the goats who pulled Thor's chariot... they were also one of his favorite sources of nourishment." She was kind of glad that she hadn't ever been close to those two... At least Odidn didn't kill and resurect her on a regular basis.

"Any idea what brought them to your mind?" On an impuls she leaned back across the bed to grab a pen and another pad of paper. She started with easy things, names of people that he might remember from his past life.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:53 pm

John looked back down to the piece of paper in his hands, frowning at it, like it was an immense riddle that perplexed him. "I dont know. I saw them, and then thought of my bike...."

If he truely was Thor, or at least had been, then that might make sense. If the goats had been Thor's main mode of transport, then surely he would associate them with his main mode of transport now...

He wasn't so sure about the nourishment thing, unless she meant the amount of time John had spent at half-way houses across Gaia. He poossibly could eat the Thunderbird in a pinch, but he wasn't sure how nourishing it would be...

"He used to eat them, then touch their bones and they would reform, yes?" He asked for confirmation as he watched her write things down. "That would be a neat trick to learn! To fix things by touching them..."

Sam turned the paper around, with just the four names on the page. Hugin, Munin, Odin, and Thor... it would be interesting to see if he could read any or all of them.

"It would be interesting to try, but I am not entirely sure if it would work on anything at all or without the hammer..." It was an interesting idea, would the magic of Thor and his hammer together again be enough to defy the science of this modern age that they were stuck in.
