Cody smirked. "Well, alright," he said, and then added, "Just remember, I invited you to the mountains, so I'm paying for everything then." He looked over Dari's shoulder, and then pointed to one of the titles. "I've heard that one's good," he said. An actiony romance type thing, if his students were to be believed.

"Yeah?" Having an eidetic memory was a curse sometimes. You couldn't forget the really crappy movies and books and experiences, not ever. "Sure." Unfortunately it was a weekend so they weren't going to be alone in the theatre unless the move was especially terrible, but they could still bond, right?

"It's playing in--a half hour," Cody observed. "Do you want to head over?" he asked, looking to Dari. "Do you like any particular sweets? We could swing by a place and grab something to take in..." Not that was ALLOWED. But it was better than paying ungodly prices for the same thing you could get for a buck elsewhere.

Dari eyes got wide. FOOD. YES.
"I wish I had a bag," he said, and looked himself over as if seeking a large enough pocket. Damnable jeans! "What's your favorite?"

Cody grinned and tugged at one side of Dari's jacket. Look, pockets! "We'll be fine," he said. "Junior mints, you? Do you want to take my car? Or we could take yours--" assuming they'd come back here?

"I can drive," Dari said, "My car's pretty boring, though." Now Luca had a cool car. Dari life until now had been all about blending in, though, and drawing no attention to himself. As for his favorite candy? Marshmallows of course, but caramel and gummies... everything was nice in its own way! What would be polite for the movie theater? He wasn't sure! He was never really able to go to one! He smiled remembering this and looked up to Cody.
Cody was now officially special in more ways than one.

"Mine's an old beater," Cody said, grinning at Dari. "I've been thinking about getting something newer, but I'd miss the tape player." He paused, and stood, throwing his cup away. "Ready?" he asked. "We can stop at the supermarket and grab something."

"A tape player!" Dari chimed with a laugh. He hadn't ever seen a car with a tape player! He got up after Cody and touched his back briefly as they passed each other, then smiled over his shoulder and headed out.
"Where's your car?"

Cody pointed to a blue car; it didn't look quite as bad as he'd described. "It's from 1992," he said, "Gives me some trouble, but it's a good car. Where's yours?"

"Oh wow." Dari wasn't even that old himself! Dari pointed over the other cars to his shiny black generic-mobile. It did have a sunroof, though! "That's mine. I don't mind driving if you'd rather not." Candy, a movie... would they hold hands? Would they lean against each other? Ooh...

"You can drive," Cody said, smiling at Dari. Very government, his car, wasn't it? Black and sleek, like something out of a movie. "Do you like popcorn?" he asked. "I can buy us a bucket."

He'd only had his first popcorn very recently.
"I like pretty much everything," he admitted with a little laugh, and then motioned for Cody to come with him. "What's the nearest supermarket?" he asked. "Ooh, or a CVS. Sometimes it's cheaper there."

Cody smiled. Then they'd have popcorn. Dari didn't seem like a picky guy, which he liked. "There's a CVS a little ways away from the theater, I'll keep an eye out for it," he said, following Dari to his car. This date was going better than he'd expected. It was nice!

Dari did the archaically polite thing and opened the passenger's door for Cody, then circled around to the driver's seat.
"Okay. Besides, they'll have single bars to pack," the alien said conspiratorially, smiled, and then headed toward the movie theater.

Cody sat, smiling at Dari. "That's right," he agreed, grinning. He watched out the window for the CVS as they got closer to the movie theater. "It's been ages since I've gone to a movie with someone," he said. Well, outside his main circle of friends, anyway. "Do you have a favorite genre?"
