*pats sarai's shoulder consolingly* Its not babysitting when I'm not actually the leader. The kids just look up to me...There are other people there for the babysitting part.
I get to pick debates with the youth pastor, which will be fun.
@Cole: You're a youth leader? That's awesome!! What age group? I'm guessing high middle school to highschool from teh sounds of it.. That sounds like a good idea. THe nerf guns and stuff.
i've been a counselor for almost 10 years now, actually. i'm the assistant youth coordinator for a 20+ member youth group and one of the counselors for an annual Christian camp that averages 120-150 teenagers attending.
debates are always fun, although i have a tendency to get carried away. one of the old ones we did was a trial: the people versus Eve (for getting themselves kicked out of Eden). her defense was mostly to shift the blame on the serpent while the prosecution goes to town on her. it was a lot of fun. another one was a civil suit between the prodigal son and his brother.
i was in charge of organizing games for 150+ teenagers last year and i think our most popular games were the caterpillar relay, airplane, and pie eating contest.
the caterpillar relay mostly consisted of teams racing while wrapped in their sleeping bag. you're supposed to crawl on the floor, caterpillar-style (hence, the name). you reach a certain point, jump out while a teammate takes your place.
airplane is dividing the group into an even number of teams and giving them each a stack of paper. competing teams will have a minute to transform these stacks of paper into paper airplanes and hurl them onto the other team's turf, which is how the score is tallied after time expires.
pie eating contest is easy. you place a piece of gum on a plate and bury the damned thing in whipped cream. each contestant will then plunge their face into the "pie" to find the bubble gum. the first one to blow a bubble wins.
how many kids are you working with?
