"I've never been to a club," Cody confessed, shaking his head. "So I can't say I've had that experience. Was raised pretty strictly," he added, shrugging. "Parents." Was the only thing he said, as if in explanation.
"So... You're new to all of this?" he asked. Had Dari just recently come out of the closet?

"You're not really missing anything," Dari said with a grin. It wasn't for everyone, Lori had said. That was true. The people who didn't want to go got nothing out of it, "Maybe I'll drag you to one once, just to see what it's like."
He stretched his shoulders back and nodded. "Yes. Extremely. My family's very supportive, though."

That implied a second date! Cody smiled and nodded, "Alright," he agreed. "It's bound to be different."
"Good! That's good. My family... Well." He tsked and shook his head. "I think they know. But I've never said anything. They're baptist, and--" he wrinkled his nose. "I don't want them preaching at me."

'Different' was a bit of an understatement, but Dari's grin only grew. he listened to Cody's problems and his smile faded a bit to be replaced with honest respect. "I don't think it should matter, really. I know a lot of different groups try to make it a big deal, but it isn't. You won't get any preaching from me, I promise." Mmm. His cup was making his hands warm.
"So, what do you want to talk about, hm? My favorite color is the rainbow, I don't prefer cats over dogs or vice versa, and uhhhh..." His chin and eyes tilted up. "I hate having hair? What else?"

Cody smiled brightly. "I agree," he said. "I think love's love." It shouldn't matter who they fell in love with, as long as they were happy. He took another sip of his mocha.
"My favorite color's green, I was raised around cats, so I don't prefer them... Mom had at least three at any given time, and they just sit above on shelves, judging you." He shook his head and grinned. "I've never had a dog." He was surprised by the next statement. "Really?" he asked.
As for something they could talk about... "What do you do in your free time?" Dari couldn't tell him about work, but what were his hobbies?

"I play a lot of video games," Dari said, and his face twisted into a grimace, "That's probably a bad hobby, right? I paint too." He sipped his drink. "What about you?"

"Hey me too," Cody smiled. "I like the indie ones about history--there used to be a lot of computer games that dealt with history, but the kids in my class are like "Mr. Fletcher, those are too old school. Look, that computer's ancient." Do you really? I was never much of an artist," he said, "But I've always liked to draw. I read a lot, too."

Dari smiled. Bonding over video games! Huh!
"I usually play console games, unless I'm out and about, and yeah. It's soothing. It's a good outlet too." But now his paintings were bright and different. His whole world had changed! He had been happy before, yes, but now he was a different and incomparable sort of happy. "You should show me some of your drawings some time. I read too." He had a lot of hobbies. After all, he had to kill between 6 and 8 hours every night, sometimes 10 on the weekends. Maia had somewhat broken Toby of that habit, though!

"I have a ps3, we could play something together sometime?" Cody suggested. "Alright," he was practically beaming; this conversation seemed to imply a second date. "I have a sketchbook. You should show me some of your paintings."

"Sure, definitely," Dari said with a nod. What would it be like to play video games with someone who wasn't family? Well, he supposed he was going to find out! "Well, I could take pictures, but otherwise you'd have to come over. Most of them are on canvasses and I can't really lug them around."

"That'd be nice," seeing them in pictures wouldn't be as nice as seeing them in person, but he couldn't invite himself over to Dari's house. "You could come to my place next weekend if you're not busy, and we could play a game."

Ooh. Cody was already inviting him over? What did that mean? He had been ready to invite Cody over too, though, so maybe it just meant they were getting along.
"Sure, I can do that. Usually I have weekends off when I don't have to work an overnight," he said with a nod, "I'll let you know if anything changes." Hopefully it wouldn't. Then maybe he could invite Cody over to his place! With Toby and Maia's permission, of course.

Cody smiled.Oh, right, government job, the guy probably didn't always know his schedule. "Sometime, we could rent a movie," he offered. "Or go somewhere." But where would Dari like to go?

Renting movies didn't mean now what it did in the age of innocence. People got frisky watching movies all of the time! He smirked and nodded. Sure, a movie or a trip.
"We could go out on the lake," Dari offered, "or maybe to the mall, or find a fair... I don't know, I'm not picky. I try to enjoy the little things." He said with a bit of a proud smile. It was true! It always had been.

"The lake's beautiful," Cody smiled at the idea. "Do you swim at all? I used to a lot as a kid, but not so much now days. Would you like to go the mall?" The little things... He had the perfect spot. "I know what we can do," he said.
