Dari hugged Maia back and waved to Toby.
"Good luck!" Toby said as he left, then turned to Maia to chat like excited parents.
Of course the alien had no problem finding the shop. He'd sent it into Google Maps and there it was, directions and a photo from the road. He saw Cody waiting for him, though, and it caused a little trill in him. He smiled and watched Cody as he disappeared through the mirrors and parked. He forced himself to remain calm as he came to meet the young man. Lori had said to stay casual.
"Hey!" Uh-oh. Was that too excited?

"Hey," Cody smiled brightly. The guy had actually shown up! Darren was so cool and casual, and he'd shown up. He opened the door for the guy, and led him to a table. "What would you like? I'll order us coffee."

"No no. I left you waiting. What do you want? I'll go grab it for us," Dari said with a smile. He reached for his wallet to ready it and eyed the menu. Hmm, what did he want?

Cody blinked, and moved to intercept Dari's wallet. "No," he said, "I invited you." And he hadn't been waiting long, and it'd been worth it, really. The guy was sweet as well as good looking. "Hm. I want--" Cody looked at the menu. "A chocolate mocha."

Chocolate. Okay. Dari approached the counter without fighting Cody's gesture to make him stop and smiled.
"Hello! How are you today?" the barista asked.
"I'm well, thank you! And you?"
"I'm good! What can I get you?"
"Can I get a chocolate mocha and a latte macchiato?"
"Sure thing!"
As the barista plugged the drinks into the computer Dari watched the cost rise and started to count out bills, which he offered to the barista.

Cody crossed his arms as he watched Dari pay, and then let them fall down to his sides. "I'll pay next time," he said, after a moment. If there was a next time.

"That's not how this works," Dari said, smiling at Cody. He shuffled over to wait for their drinks and watch the barista make them, then turned to Cody.
"So what's happened all this week?"

"School, mostly," Cody smiled. "I had to stay late to help some kids with a difficult concept, had to grade maps--I'm having my seniors draw maps of ancient civilizations. What about you? Been keeping busy?"

"What concept?" Dari asked curiously, and grabbed their drinks as they came. He began to walk toward a back cafe table with Cody. "Oh, the same old thing." Teaching English to a kelpie. "It's nice to get out." With a real person!

"Some kids were wondering about the seven wonders," Cody said, "My freshmen." He had a feeling the same old thing was quite different for Dari than it was for him. He smiled at him, though. "I kept hoping you'd call."

"Which seven? The ancient world, I'm assuming?" He was a history teacher after all. Dari sat and took a sip of his drink. Yes, he could definitely feel hot and cold now. They didn't bother him as much as others, but he knew the warmth running down into his... well, whatever he had in there.
"I'm sorry it took so long. To be completely candid, I was pretty nervous." He laughed a little at himself and took another sip.

"Yes," he smiled. "Specifically, the lighthouse of Alexandria." He'd wished he could've seen the wonders for himself, it would've been more effective for teaching, to be able to describe them first hand.
"You?" he asked, surprised. But the guy was gorgeous. What was there to be nervous about? He sipped at his mocha.

Dari's eyebrows shot up. Him? Him what? Was Cody surprised he had been nervous? Because everyone got nervous.
"Yeah, me," he said with a little laugh, "It's intimidating!"

Cody paused for a long moment, before saying, "I imagined you couldn't have been less than popular, with that face." He gave Dari a smile. He was more than a pretty face, though. Dari was smart, too! "But yeah, I know what you mean."

A smile spread across Dari's lips. Cody was laying on the flattery but, unlike that odd duck Jake, he seemed to really mean it.
"No, no. Far from it, although the other night I had a man try to hump me on the dance floor. That was interesting." He'd laughed at him too, but he'd meant it that time.
