It seems like it would be fun. I do some H2H stuff but... I don't really know anything about it. I just tank through s**t and break things. As long as it seems cool I'll pretty much go with it.
Though I'm using a completely different character for the GTB. I don't think I'll really do any H2H stuff. I'm going to try not to, anyway. lol

Well the thing about H2H when going against anyone with a weapon is your advantage is speed...
unless you talking about something like a knife, something compact.
Even a trained martial artist with weapon has to compensate for balance, reach and striking effectively.
Knowing this...
You let them make the first and follow-up with extreme prejudice.
Doesn't have to be super technical, just logical.

Being a mildly trained swordsman myself, and having experience with several other weapons, I can tell you a half competent person with a weapon can fight most of your black belts any day.
The real problem is, when you get a weapon user v.s. fist, or two trained people fighting, real fights are over in less than 30 seconds.
Mostly because no matter how trained you are, you can not knowingly predict all of your opponent's moves, just the most logical outcomes, for the next 3 or 4.

That's pretty much how I go about it.
KB: There isn't too terribly much to know about doing hand to hand, unless you're going for more complex things like grappling or submissions.

Yeah. I've seen lots of stuff about disarming people and a lot of it is pretty interesting.
It's pretty easy to get used to weapons though. You more or less expect them, and the ability to have them do different things is cool. I'd way rather have a set of weapons and some H2H stuff then have just H2H. With just your hands you can't do cool stuff like sword a sword at someone, or pass an enemy a weapon, and s**t like that.

Xerowingz KB: There isn't too terribly much to know about doing hand to hand, unless you're going for more complex things like grappling or submissions. Well that's what I mean. There are only a few dedicated H2H people I know of like Fox, Tres, and Crawley. Getting into fisticuffs with them is pretty suicidal because things instantly get technical and they're pretty well versed on the subject. If I'm just doing like a bare bones bar brawl type thing against someone I have no problem with that.

He does sort of have a weapon, but it's mostly there for when he fights weapon users. And he only has one distant attack! Was hoping another tournament would open the way everyone was talking, but it's looking like I'll just have to wait for HOH '13.

A Martial Artist is anyone who fights using a set discipline. It's not subject to "blackbelts" only. I agree with your overall statement otherwise just pointing out that in martial arts there is no perfect technique. Everything can be countered using your bare hands from a logical standpoint.

II hear ya, we actually practice hand v.s. sword every now and again. I love swordsmanship, and it is a powerful area of discipline, as are all the others in their own rights, but even we study techniques that cripple swordsman and other weapons bare handed xD Anyways... My morning meds are wearing off, so I'm off xD
