Dean.. I haven't really asked you this, but I know you are a fan of the Bruins. Which are your favorite players? (get ready for a long post, everyone!)
PostPosted: Sat May 07, 2005 6:34 pm

Nice pictures Ace. I always love to see that Carlton Fisk one, brightens my day.

And now to answer your mighty question:

GILLES GILBERT- I was one when my dad took me to my first Bruins game and Gilles Gilbert was in net. I knew nothing about hockey, but I was captivated by the man with the mask and strange-looking things on his legs and hands. I don't remember a lot about the game itself (the B's beat Atlanta), but I DO remember thinking that No. 1 in nets for the B's was a God. I was crushed when he was traded to Detroit for Rogatien Vachon a few years later. And I still remember being 6 years old and weeping when Yvon Lambert scored on him in Game 7 in '79 (they showed the game on TV in 89'). His greatness will forever be known in Bruins lore not for the game he won, but for the one he lost.

PETE PEETERS- I didn't know a whole lot about him when he arrived in Boston, but he had a tremendous season in 1982-83. He came in and posted a 2.36 GAA and 8 shutouts at a time when scoring in the NHL was at an all-time high, so his individual season is all the more remarkable. It is a real shame that the B's couldn't get past the Islanders dynasty, because they had a team that was certainly capable of going all the way in '83. They had that amazing series against Buffalo, capped by the Brad Park OT strike, and while Peeters didn't display the same kind of dominance in net as he had in the regular season, he still had some excellent games. I was floored when the Bruins dealt him to Washington for Pat Riggin. Bad trade, and Peeters went on to have some pretty good years for the Caps, while Riggin was gone pretty much off the bat.

CAM NEELY- The quintessential Bruin. 'Nuf ced. He defined what it was about. Played the game the way it was meant to be. Became one of the city's most popular and identifiable sports stars, albeit a reluctant one. He always seemed shy in the spotlight, as if he wished that someone else would be the center of attention, but on the ice, he was transformed into something much more. Those who saw him will never forget what he meant to the team, and for those who were too young, I wish you could have seen him. As was the case with me and Bobby Orr, who played his last game in Boston the same season I watched my first, I could only see him on film. And, somehow, I am left with the feeling that the magic you see does not compare to how it must have been to experience it firsthand. Neely will always own a special place in the hearts of Bruins Nation.

ANDY MOOG- I watched him help the Edmonton Oilers capture their first Stanley Cup against the Islanders and was drawn to him because he was a diminutive, yet combative and skilled netminder. When he walked away from the Oilers in 1987, I quietly hoped and prayed that somehow, he would end up on the Bruins, and when Harry Sinden made it so on that early March day in 1988, I was in heaven. The Bruins had some great playoff runs with Andy Moog in net, along with Reggie Lemelin, and Moog did something that Gerry Cheevers and Ed Johnston never could- beat Montreal in a playoff series. He did it not once, twice but three times- in 1990, 1991 and 1992. Although he never captured the prize, Moog was a great Bruin and a very popular figure when here.

DAVE POULIN- I wasn't sorry to see Ken Linseman go in exchange for this tremendous leader and excellent player, one of Harry Sinden's outstanding trades. Poulin was the epitome of class and I've come to appreciate him even more in my dealings with him in recent years. Some guys simply have 'it' and are the kind of players you win with. Even though Poulin never won a Stanley Cup in his playing career, he beat the odds to make it to the NHL after not being drafted, and was a terrific Bruin for the younger players to emulate.

That is in no order and that's based on my opinion. So we really don't have to argue.

Now if I were to put my favorite players in order:

BRAD PARK: My original favorite. Still have my size L kids jersey with #22 on it. His goal against Buffalo in game 7 remains my favorite Bruins moment.

PETE PEETERS: I moved to goalie on my street hockey team because of him. I'll never forget that undefeated streak he had and how I couldn't wait to read the box score to make sure he was in nets. He killed me in the Islanders series, and I got a detention in school that year because a Bossy fan kept rubbing it in......Was I wrong for throwing him head first into a locker???

CAM NEELY: My favorite athlete ever. I hope my kids grow up to be half the person he is. Next to my father, he was the most looked up to male role model I had. I immediately left goal, got my #8 sweater and played the same way (with much less skill). All the ladies loved him, and all the men wanted to be him. Those late 80's, early 90's squads were my golden age in hockey. I street and ice hockey pick up games, the other team would always say, "Watch that #8 Neely jersey guy" Our team dominated every neighborhood in our area, it was great. Unfortunately Cam and I also are in the losing a parent to cancer family, but he was even a role model to me in that, as I thought about his losing both parents. His stories helped me be strong for my mother when she started to lose the battle. Cam is the greatest.

JOE THORNTON: He's been my favorite for the past what seven years now? I ran right out to customize a #6 Pooh Bear jersey when he was taken..... I love watching Joe when he is on. No more dominant force in the NHL in my opinion. I'll admit, as an adult you are FAR more critical of your favorites then as a child-teen. No more idolizing so to say. I hope when we get back on the ice, Joe brings the "X" factor to us from all his recent successes.

Once again based on my opinion. Oh and if you want I'll even post my favorite players on the Flames.

You know what's awesome.. on Wensday we were up in New York (for no reason). So of course I was sporting my Red Sox gear but I had a New York Rangers hat on.

So my dad is a big fan of golfing so we were at Chelsea Piers and dad was having fun hitting a couple of balls around noon. I was standing there pretty bored with my little brother, Tyler so then the door opens and a really familiar guy in shorts and he had a PING carry bag walks in looking for an open stall. I was wondering who he was so it took me about a minute to figure out who he was- My all-time favorite NHL player- Brian Leetch.

I didn't get to talk to him because there were no stalls open so Brian Leetch went upstairs to find stalls. I wasn't about to stalk or hound him since that would be rude because he probably would of wanted a fun time golfing.

I haven't really been thinking about the Rangers much but after seeing Leetch it brought back good memories of when he played for the Rangers, plus I've never really seen Brian Leetch in regular clothing since I've mostly see him in hockey gear.

I had brought along a friend who isn't much of a hockey fan so he asked me who that was. So I said that he was Brian Leetch and a great New York Rangers defenseman- greatest probably. But then I realized that he plays for Toronto now (Stupidest trade ever in my opinion. I'll never forget it.. sitting on my couch and getting the news from ESPN or something that Leetch had been traded. Oh well the Leafs suck anyway).

Top Favorite Ranger Players:

Brian Leetch- Greatest defenseman. I loved the way he played, he had great speed and strength. He was amazing when I first saw him at my first ever NHL hockey game which was in 1990. Then I got to see him the 1994 Stanley Cup against Vancouver (Haha Ally).

Mike Richter- One of the greatest goalies I've ever seen. This guy played the game of hockey with heart. I'll never forget that goal he saved during the 94' Stanley Cup when Pavel Bure scored on him.

Yes.. I could go on but those are my two favorite NHLers.

I'm bored right now.. so maybe I'll go up to Salem later and hang around at the witch museam. And who knows... I may see a ghost of one of the girls who got hang (since the museam is haunted). Salem is creepy...

OMG My period started today and like always it's really heavy gonk I mean super plus tampons last me like around 2 hours and thats with being on birth control and being on a med for cramps that is also supposed to lighten the flow of blood as well. So like if I go out somewhere I have to wear like a tampon AND a pad. Oh and I totally hate the tampons with cardboard applicators plastic is way better because it's easier. I also hate how you can get like chunks that's like totally gross. I also hate how if you're wearing a pad and you stand up that it can be like niagra falls between your legs gonk I bet Ace'll probably delete this post...

lol I wonder if this is bugging Ace since it bugs most guys. Though it dosen't bug Dean but he has sisters so yeah... but back to the discussion. I swear at times cramps can feel like there's something inside of you trying to shread you to pieces or something. Getting back to the blood clots thing you can actually feel them comming out at times which is like totally gross gonk
