Sorry. I don't know who your owner is.

If anyone is looking for a nekoboy, I could use an owner. 3nodding I'm a good kitty, and I'm house trained. ^_~

Lady Shouri is my owner ^^ and it doesn't look like she's on. Good luck on your search btw I'm sure you'll find an owner eventually

Could someone help me find the maximum volume of a right cone whose dimensions fit 6r + h = 18?

Yay! I math problem! ^_^ heart

Yes, I am also good at math. So if you have problem with math, this neko boy can do it for you. heart So if you need a neko boy, I need a master. ^_~

Okayz! The volume formula is (pi)radius(height)/3=V And we know, by rearranging the variables above, that h=-6r+18. And since 2=r and 6=h are the only numbers that work, the answer is 4(pi). ^^ I think that's right. Lol.

Actually the Volume formula for a right cone is (1/3)(pi)(r^3)(h) and that is not what I got. I am just checking my answers here but when I say fits the dimensions of 6r + h = 18 I mean every possible dimension.

I am wondering does this look right to anyone?

h = 18 - 6r

V = (1/3)(pi)(r^3)(18 - 6r) -> (1/3)((18(pi)(r^3)) - (6(pi)(r^4)))

=> ((18(pi)(r^3)) - (6(pi)(r^4)))/3 -> (6(pi)(r^3)) - (2(pi)(r^4)) -> d/dx -> (18(pi)(r^2)) - (8(pi(r^3))

=> 18(pi)(r^2) = 8(pi)(r^3) -> (8(pi)(r^3))/((pi)(r^2)) = 18 -> 8(r) = 18 -> r = 18/8

So....

(1/3)(pi)((18/ cool ^3)(h) -> skip a bunch of pointless algebra -> h = 3/((18/ cool ^3)(pi)

Can anyone confirm this for me?

sweatdrop right... That makes sense.

I was trying to figure it out, and I couldn't remember what you were suppose to do, exactly, so I had to try and refigure it out. So I rearanged 6r+h=18 to the h=-6r+18 and substituted it back into the 6r+h=18, which would give me 0=0, even when I solved for h using the same method. However, I did forget about the power. However, I do believe that it is (I am using '~' for pi) ~r^2h/3=V or ~r^2h(1/3). r^3 would be too many dimensions. You would be accomidating for 3 dimensions r,r,and r and h as well, which would make a 4th dimensional figure. Whereas with ^2, you have r,r, and h, which is 3 dimensions. So, therefore, with that correction made, your math should make sense. sweatdrop
