Maia put her arms around Toby's neck. She smiled at him. She leaned up to capture his lips. This was a perfect night.

Toby's arms fell easily around Maia's waist and he leaned down to meet her lips. They were warm. Soft. Something inside him melted as he held her close and began to step and sway. After a few moments, he closed his eyes.
He had always imagined this, but in a different venue, with a different woman. He and Carolyn had never made it that far, and Maia didn't feel the same. She was different in shape, in posture, in everything. His fingers lightly gripped the back of her dress and he nuzzled his head to fit just beside Maia's. This was different, but it was no less meaningful. As he stood there he imagined Maia in a white dress, their friends gathered around them, and for once the idea didn't seem so scary.

This was wonderful, it was--it was what Maia had always imagined love was like, before she'd fallen for Toby, all in one night. She repositioned her arms, and snuggled closer. She didn't want the night to end. Being so close, and so happy, without interruption of work or friends popping in--Maia could do this forever.

Toby remained this way for quite some time, and the song changed to a just as slow, meaningful tune. The little change made Toby lean back just a bit, though. He smiled at Maia, admired the endless depths of her chocolate eyes, and brushed some hair behind her ear. He leaned forward and kissed her softly, as was appropriate for public.
"I love you."

Maia smiled up at Toby, leaning up to capture his lips again. "I love you too," she said. "Thank you for bringing me here," she added. They'd have to do this again.

The kiss was, of course, reciprocated.
"I'm glad you came," he said softly, "I thought you might like it." A thumb rubbed Maia's hip and he put his nose to hers and grinned.

Maia and Toby had been gone for a good five minutes now when Dari was struck with a memory. Cody, from the park. He'd given him his number and... well. Dari had been a bit afraid to initiate from then on out. It was a little shameful, really. He'd been excited about the sentiment and then never gotten to it. He could blame work or stress but really he had just been nervous. He'd never courted anyone before.
So why not tonight?
Maia and Toby were out on a romantic date, it wasn't too late in the evening yet, and he didn't have any plans to go to the club. Still in his alien form, Dari picked up the phone and dialed Cody's number before he could talk himself out of it.

On the second ring, Cody picked up. "Hello?" Normally he was a bit more hesitant to answer unknown phone calls; they tended to be scams, but this time, he was hopeful. He'd given a guy, Darren, his phone number. He'd been hoping all week that the guy would call. Maybe this was him?

"Hi! Cody. It's Darren," Dari said, and he smiled. For some reason it was reassuring that he hadn't been given a fake number, although it would have been rather odd considering the situation it had been given in. "I'm sorry it took me so long to call. How are you?"

IT WAS HIM! It was him, and he had called! It took Cody a moment to remember he was on the phone with the guy, so he didn't whoop in excitement. "Good. It's nice to hear from you," he said, cheerfully. "How are you?"

Dari smiled. "I'm fine, thanks. I was wondering if you'd still let me take you up on going for coffee?" He fiddled with the ring around his neck.

Cody had to put down the phone a moment so Dari wouldn't hear the sound of excitement that escaped his mouth. He picked it up, composing himself, and said, "Yes! Yes, I'd love to go to coffee with you. Is tomorrow good?"

Dari heard him put the phone down, and he heard the little sound as well. He smiled so hard it wrinkled his nose. This guy was really that excited? Adorably, adorably excited? He was glad he had finally grown some figurative balls and called!
"Yeah, sure! What time is good for you?"

"Three in the afternoon good for you? Where do you live, I can come pick you up? Or we could meet there. Whichever you prefer!" This was exciting! This guy had actually taken the time to call him!

Pick him up? For coffee? Dari laughed delightedly.
"I can meet you. Do you have a favorite place?" Aside from maybe the cafe in the bookstore where they'd be expected to keep quiet.
