Toby grabbed Maia's hands when she came back around to dance with her, grinning like a fool. It didn't matter if they looked silly, they were having fun!

Maia smiled and danced; this was easier than she thought it'd be! Much easier! And it was fun! She leaned up to kiss Toby after a while. "I love you," she said.

Toby accepted the kiss with a smile. "I love you too!"
After quite a bit of dancing, Toby brought Maia off the dancefloor and hailed a server.
"Sir! Could I get a Shirley Temple for the lady and a Cuba Libre for me?"
"Of course," the server said with a little head-bow, "Just a moment."
"Sure, take your time."
Toby wrapped an arm around Maia's waist and watched the couples dance.

When the server left, Maia looked to Toby. "What's a shirley temple?" she asked. She snuggled against him, and smiled. "Are you having fun, love?"

"You'll like it. There's no alcohol in it," he assured her, but that was as far as his description went. He wanted her to be surprised.
"I am. Are you?"

That was...fairly vague, actually. It could've been anything.
"Yes," she said, and smiled at him. She leaned up to kiss him again. She always had a good time, when she was able to spend time with Toby.

Toby sidled up behind Maia against the wall and put his arms around her waist. He swayed with the music and simply remained silence, now and again kissing Maia's ear or leaning their heads together or humming the tune to a song he recognized. The server he'd called came over the offered him a glass with twists of lime and Maia a red soda with cherries floating in.
"Thank you," Toby said with a nod, and the server smiled, nodded back, and continued about his work. Toby took a sip of his drink and then turned back to Maia. "Do you like it?"

Maia had been surprised by the server's appearance, but took her drink with a word of thanks. She took a sip, blinked, and took another. "It's good," she said, in surprise. "Thank you, love."

"Mmhm," Toby replied, happy that he'd chosen something his love would like, "It's just soda and grenadine. And cherries." Not good for you, but what was any more? "It's named after an actress from the thirties. I wasn't alive at the time, of course, but she's very famous."

"Not quite that old," Maia teased. The music seemed to slow down, it was a pretty song. Couples that had stopped dancing were going back to the dance floor.

Toby sidled out from behind Maia and put his drink on a nearby table. He turned around his love and urged her to put her drink down.
"I can teach you this one," he said, "If you want to learn, of course."

Oh? Maia set her drink down next to Toby's, and smiled at him. He wanted to dance? "Okay," she agreed. She'd been asking since before they'd arrived; of course she wanted to learn!

"Alright, come on then," Toby said, and he brought Maia to the outskirts of the dance floor so they wouldn't trip anyone else. He took one of her hands and placed his free hand at her waist and stood straight. "Alright. Put your hand here-- good. Now. The box-step. You step forward on your right, sideways with your left, and then bring your right to your left. I do it backwards." He did his own box-step and then returned to Maia properly. "Now you try."

In practice, the dance was much easier than it sounded. Maia stepped back with her right foot, and to the side with her left. She turned her attention from her feet to Toby, and then smiled. As she was getting the hang of it, though, the song changed, becoming something slower.

The two danced together, Toby even going so far as to initiate a bit of a turn in their step, and then the music change.
"Oh. Well then." He stopped with a chuckle and, for a moment, just peered into Maia's eyes. She was radiant. She was perfect.
