Silver Gryphon So you just had to read, or something? Lucky. Oh, no. I forget that not everyone has to take it because it's been pounded in my brain for like four years that I'd have to write it this year. xD There's been so much prep... ugh. Highly unneccessary prep, too. >>;
There are two booklets. In the first one, we had to read a few passages and answer questions about them (mostly multiple choice), answer a couple of more personal questions, and write a news report. We were given seventy-five minutes for the whole thing... I took half an hour. n_n;
Then there was a break, where they gave us granola bars and a juice box... xDDD So awesome. I was like, "What are we, Grade Twos? *Makes mature and intellectual sucking noises as she sips her applejuice... they only had applejuice... I was very disappointed...*"
Then, in the second booklet, there were more questions and passages and the like and then an opinion piece. Again, seventy-five minutes. I did all of the booklet except the opinion piece in twenty and then I took like... another twenty to do that. >>; I suck at opinion pieces... which is strange, because I have many opinions.
Every Grade Ten in Ontario took the same test at the same time as me. You have to pass it to pass highschool. If you don't do it or you fail the first time, you can do it next year or in Grade Twelve... I think if you fail the one in Grade Eleven, though, you have to take a course thing in Twelve so you can pass it. I'm not sure.
I'm sure I did well. It was so goddamn easy and eye rawk at teh englitch. Besides, they don't actually grade you... when whoever is marking it is marking it, they just stop when they get to a passing mark. xD
... Englitch... I like that. xD

I'M NOT PARANOID!! burning_eyes
...seriously though, I dont like it. Maybe it is unreasonable, but I still dont like it at all. It makes me feel uncomfortable, and I dont often get that, and I'm not often unreasonable.
It's new that it's a theory in science. The actual concept? Of course not. xd
Actually spork, evolution and natural selection are at complete odds to one another. Evolution teaches that we mutate into new species. Natural selection teaches that we get winnowed down. Have you ever heard of one single beneficial mutation? If it's meant to have happened, and kept on happening, then why do we not know of any? I guess my question really is, is where is the proof? And you're right; natural selection was proposed by darwin, and evolution was proposed at the same time. Observing natural selection happen was what made him question if evolution were possible.
Lectures and such are fun at my college too. And we dont have to do exams! biggrin *all coursework*
Set your alarm earlier? Put it the other side of the room so you have to get out of bed?
O.O Satah, what's the point of taking a test like that?

Example of evolution: Dandelions are a weed and are often mowed along with the lawn because they are just tall enough to have the upper part of their stems chopped by a lawnmower blade.
There is a new strain of dandelion now that grows much shorter to the ground, less than half the height of a normal dandelion. This is a mutation.
This mutation is beneficial to the dandelion because it won't get decapitated every week, thus these new ones will survive much better than your standard dandelion. Because of this mutation, this new strain of dandelion will eventually replace our current version of the dandelion, because it will be able to survive better and procreate more.
Evolution.

I don't know. xD Testing literacy, apparently?But... it doesnt. o.O Oh well, I suppose we have plenty of those tests here too when I think about it. It's just odd to have them described like that. Um, Telor, I think you'll find that involves no mutations at all, but natural selection. xp I'll look up some theory papers later to check.

Van de Graaf generators are scary when they're three feet away from you. The kids had all the seats further away...

Oo It's in the genes of the dandelion that it grows shorter. The fact that it survives is natural selection.
